Has been deleted on FF.NET. It had been updated with 2 chapter this morning but I only had time for the first chapter and when I went to my saved stories sometime later I noticed that it had been deleted. Unless it's an issue.

I believe there is another purge of the RtB fictions, I realized that at least 3 different RtB fictions I was following were deleted, it started last week I think.

Yeah. That story was deleted today, along with at least one other that I know of. Mine was deleted earlier as well, and from what I can gather, so was 'The Gryffindors Learn about Harry Potter'.
The sad thing is, that HP & the Presently Past Read survived for quite a while and the author had got up to chapter 77, before it was deleted. That was one of the few stories still up that I liked.

That was the story that I loved. The sad thing is that I can't even remember the Authors name.

*sigh* I turn my back for a few days, and that's what I get back to. My favourites have shrunken at least 7 stories, too. And as far as I can tell so far (still working on figuring out what is missing), it's once again only the good stories with a side plot, but not the rubbish. There are really days when I consider to just ditch that stupid website altogether.

and yet there's still new RTB stories being posted.

Yes. And the crap is left alone, too. Sometimes I consider asking the admins why they only delete good stories and leave the rubbish alone, but as I won't get an answer anyway, I have resisted so far. It leaves me once again with the feeling that the CU is just jealous because they all can't write to save their lives, so they need to harrass better authors to feel important. Prats.
You know, if they did just delete all the RtB fics and really enforced the ban, then I could accept it. But not with the way how it is handled. And that's what annoys the heck out of me.

I suppose if they just deleted the rather badly written ones I could accept that but some of them change the stories so that it's not an exact copy of JK's, those one should be left on.

Yep, and besides, there are some where the author only just puts meaningless one-liners in, and these are left up, too. But these who take lots of time to write a side story, these are deleted. Ever tried Johanni93's story? It was such a great one, she put lots of times into it, there were loooong chapters without any book text - and still, it was deleted this week. It makes me so angry.
It's really turning more and more into a platform for half-literate kids that way. Someone who expects a certain niveau in writing is having more and more problems to find something readable at all.

I haven't came across that one sorry, personally I think that it's one extremely jealous person that probably can't write a story to save their lives.

Still think it is one of the best And yes, something like that, though I suspect there's more than one person behind that whole CU thing.

Could it be because they are more popular? Does the most popular fictions stand out in searching engine? It could be easier to track a fiction with a lot of followers/reviews vs a dismissive one?

Not sure about common search engines, but I know you can sort lists on FFN by number of reviews. Or at least you could until the last "update", haven't tried since then. So that would be a distinct possibility. For me it's a bit too much coincidence that nearly exclusively stories with lots of reviews, favourites and followers are targeted. That's why I can't help but suspect that there's some jealousy behind it.

I don't know how it works. I just know that my story, which was deleted yesterday, had sixty-two reviews, one hundred and nineteen favourites, and one hundred and thirty-five followers. I'm sure some of the stories that are crap and haven't been deleted, have more, and I doubt that mine was as popular as many of the other stories that have been deleted.

So I just tried, no you can't sort them by reviews in the common search engine, but you can by length? Anyway, it maybe jealousy. But I always wanted to suggest to rather than copying the book, why not rewriting it in you own style? like a resumed story of book events? I mean most reader of RTB already read the book. It one of the downside, I like RTB don't get me wrong but sometimes it's a little repetitive, reading JKR again and again. Even if it's a lot more difficult and time consuming and I am willing to wait longer for chapters, plus it could be a good solution, because they can't accuse you of plagiarism, no?

I'm sorry you were deleted, too Oh, it can't always be just the popular ones, I know there were a few really crappy ones that vanished, too, but in some cases I don't even know if it was FFN or the author themselves. All I am saying is that to my knowledge, the amount of good stories that vanished has been above average. And being more recently updated is a point, too, I believe. The ones that haven't been updated since the purge last year started seem to have been mostly left alone. Of course, I can only go by the ones I have been following, but with them that's the pattern I see. Rewriting the story is what most fanfics do already. I think the appeal of the RtB fics is that you can comment on what is going on. And btw, I usually skip the book text anyway.

what I meant was to rewrite the the text book on your/different style rather than copy-past and then commenting it, sure you have to do all the work here but you are harassment-free and you wouldn't feel like skipping any part .

Some would probably still think it's plagiarism *rolls eyes* Ok, it might be a possibility, but it is very unlikely. If you want to recount the whole 7 books, that alone is more work than most can do, save it is cut down considerably. And then to add the comments makes it worse. Let me tell you, it is *a lot* of work to just do the comments. Anyone who tries to do both will in 99% of the cases give up after a few chapters.

I agree. It does take a lot of effort to just come up with comments, and with a side plot, it's even harder, because then one has to also come up with what happens during the reading. No one can sit and read a book for twenty-four hours or more, without taking breaks, and if there is a side plot, then the writer also has to think about what will happen during the breaks, that will affect the characters and events after the reading is over.
It's probably a lot easier to add comments to the original text, than to write a whole new story, then add comments to that. I don't know how much work it would take, I've never tried that, but given the fact that I spent about eighteen months working out the side plot to my story, then adding comments, trying to keep the repetition to a minimum, I can imagine that it could take longer to write both a new version of the original story, create a side plot to the reading, and add comments that fit the side plot.
I can't imagine many people wanting to do all of that, when they have the original text there, just waiting for comments to be added.

It might be a good idea if RtB authors started just writing the comments/reactions with one line of the original book text before and after so that the reader will be able to know exactly were the comments/reactions belong as well as their own original side plot. That wouldn't violate the copyright laws and I think just about every fan of RtB stories have at least one of each book saved on their computer so the readers could just insert the authors comments into their own copy for the full story.

Yeah, that is possible, but my impression is that many readers then complain because the book text is not complete and the story feels fractured. Which I never completely understand, because I skip most of the original text and only give it a short look to check which part of the chapter it is. But that's probably just me.

Some are posting them on LJ, though I only know about two I've been following and which were left alone, and just recently heard about one which seems to have been deleted. I guess the only way to be safe from these bullies is to use mailing lists. But of course, then it's very hard to find new readers.

Oh, there are plenty left on FFN, it's just the good ones with many reviews that were deleted, and the others don't stand out that much.

There was a really good story by someone called darkxtwistedxfantasy or something along those lines, but I can't find them anywhere on FF and the stories been deleted, wonder if their account as been deleted too? It's a reading the deathly hallows story, only about 7 chapters long but really well written.

The name doesn't ring a bell for me, so I can't help there. Everything is possible lately. But did you consider the possibility that the author changed their name? Some do it, I've had quite the time finding a story or two again due to that. Or wondered how that author got onto my favorites, only to realise that it's just a name change.

I know it's been months, but my story is back up! Not wanting to have it deleted, I made it's own website, which you can all find here. It should work. If you want to know about the updates, the twitter handle is @hpatpprtb, which is what I'll be using, for those still interested
