I saw this a couple of days ago! What I think is pretty amazing is the amount of authors coming out to say how ridiculous they find the article and sticking up for Jo. The entire article is a load of rubbish.

Why do I get the feeling that this author is just jealous because JKR has more success with her writing? It's really laughable.

Why do I get the feeling that this author is just jealous because JKR has more success with her writing? It's really laughable. That was my reaction to the article too. I then told my mum and she had a good laugh about it. Sadly enough, however, there are probably some more authors out there, like the jealous author, who think the same thing.

There will always be some people, authors or not, who envy others their success. Sadly, that's the nature of success.
Now I am wondering if that rant is going to have any influence on the career of the person who said this.

Well I just flipped through the 'Look Insides' of Lynn Shepherd's books on Amazon.
I'd much rather read JKR's stuff.

Whenever there is somebody incredibly successful in their field there will always be other people trying to get their own five minutes by saying how terrible they are. She's probably ruined her own career, because now she's got lots of people promising never to read her books, and there are so many other authors saying how wrong she was.

Had expected something like that, to one extent or another. It's her right not to like HP, every book is in the end down to taste, after all, and she even can say publicly that it's not her type of story. But saying things like that? A famous critic might get away with remarks like that, but a fellow author? It smells too much of jealousy and bad loser. Sad, really. That way, she has probably destroyed her career just for a few days of fame. I doubt it was worth it.

Either that or more people will read her books to prove to themselves that she doesn't compare to Rowling. Though I doubt that will happen.

Some probably will, but I can't imagine too many will do it, particularly if the book isn't that great. And considering the size of the HP fandom and how interlinked it is, I can see a lot of people complaining about that woman's work not being in the same league as Rowling's - which would probably keep many from trying themselves. Oh well, she called for it.
