As we keep complaining about stories elsewhere, I thought I'd try the opposite and start a tread with story recommendations. It's so hard to find something good to read, after all. My first recommendation is a recently posted oneshot with a rather unique way how Harry gets back at Voldemort and his Death Eaters, as well as Dumbledore: Harry's Happy Cursing by White Angel of Auralon

I've not read that one, though, hopefully I will find time to. I would like to recommend several stories, including: 1) www.fanfiction.net/s/10487644/1/Courage-and-Cunning - which, while not yet complete, is reasonably long, and a remarkably good read. 2) www.fanfiction.net/s/9963013/1/He-s-Not-Dead-Yet - which, like Courage and Cunning, isn't yet complete, but still a very good, and very funny, read. and; 3) The Travel Secrets series by www.fanfiction.net/u/4349156/E4mj - the first two have been finished, and the third is currently incomplete.

Thanks! Oh, I know the second one, but I'll have a look at the others. The holidays are coming up, after all. Edit: Funnily enough, that story just updated about 20 minutes ago. As if your recommendation got the author to post

Yep, have been following that one from the beginning, though I need to catch up with a number of chapters recently. But thanks It's certainly another one that is worth reading.

Yeah, it's definitely one of my favorites. I'd also suggest one of my own Since I plan on updating everything within the next two weeks, so

Ouch. Not good. Not good at all. Did you not have any backups?

Nope. Not at that time. I backup my fics once all the chapters are completed for all current stories. Plus, my laptop's never had this problem so it surprised the hell out of me.

That's definitely not enough. I've had too many close calls to risk that little security. Always tried to save stuff after I did change something, back in the days of diskettes, and later on I did complete backups on an extra HD every few days, two weeks at most.
Never had this problem is no good point, believe me. My uncle was a teacher and he once told me that his colleague got her first computer and eagerly started putting all her school stuff on it. After half a year (!) the brand-new computer crashed - the HD was gone. Dead. And she hadn't saved even a single line outside of it. So, the work of half a year was gone for good. My uncle replaced her HD, but she had to do the whole stuff again. That story made me even more paranoid.
My second laptop had a total crash when it was just 5 months old, too. Luckily, I didn't lose much, thanks the backup. Later, my brother set up the system to an automatical backup every few hours. And the current one (my third) once got hung up during a system update. Nothing moved any more, so I had to just switch it off in the end - which shot the whole system to hell. Had to erase the HD and re-install everything from the original CDs, then to update, update, update ... and after that was done, I could re-upload all my stuff, thanks to the automatical backup. And only three months back, my HD fried completely. Again, without the backup I would have lost everything on it. I just ordered a new HD, replaced the old one and retrieved my stuff from the backup server.
Any questions why I am backup obsessed by now? Even a new computer is *no* guarantee.
Anyway, I hope you didn't lose too much.

My laptop is pretty much unusable due to viruses. I cant save anything or it automatically becomes decrypted. That is if i can even write to begin with since my programs will randomly close down causing me to lose anything im working on. I had three good first chapters and i was reworking my current stories hoping it would make me finally update them when all this happened. So since i can only update them through my phone i pretty much lost interest in writing until this tuesday. I was reading a story called cafe by faust vii which is unfinished.
It hasnt been updated in years but you can tell faust is still alive due to a recent story and the publish dates on their favorite stories. Anyways it made me want to write a fanfic of their story.
So im writing it on paper and then ill type it on my phone and send it to Faust to see if theyll give me permission to publish it. Im hoping this will get me to do the same with my stories so ill finally complete them.

That sounds worrying, you should seek help from someone who knows how to deal with that
