Harry apologizing for not shaking his hand is so overdone. To me Malfoy never offered his hand in friendship. He essentially said your dumb let me think for you instead. It seems to me he was trying to trick Harry into becoming his vassle or servent.
Malfoy offences before offer refusal:
- Did not introduce himself nor ask for Harry's name. (could be excused as a kid talking to another kid but if everyone wants Harry be perfect in behavior then he should be to.)
- Insincere apology for demanding parents whereabouts and essentially insulted the dead for asking blood lineage. (to me asking the blood lineage seems a breach I mean what if Cedric Diggory if her dead aunt was half troll? Its sort of the same thing)
- Asking heritage like that without introductions atleast has to be a social faux pas. (Draco started the conversation and never did introductions but then demands what could be considered a Family matter)
- Insulted Harry's mother and him with rant about unworthiness to learn magic. (He did say how Harry and Lily's kind didn't deserve to be taught. Seems a breach as he had no clue who he was spreading his world views to.
- Barging into a compartment without knocking is ill-mannered. (How many fics get onto Hermione for doing it but don't say a word about Malfoy doing it)
- Again didn't introduce himself first before rudely telling Harry who he was. (He marched in and told Harry he had to HP w/out saying his name of even a polite greeting. Tell there was no rudeness there.)
- Interrupted his own introduction by not letting Harry to speak. (Might not seem like a big thing but if someone went up to you at a social function and introduced themselves and then cut you off before you could do the same it would be rude)
- Interrupting polite greetings to insult someone he is in a family fued with and essentially saying the fued and the family they saw as blood traitors were more important then Harry was in doing so. (That's like the usa president interrupting the Queen to insult a commoner on her staff he has bad blood with).
- The insults said to Weasley could have applied to a third of Hogwarts and a few even applied to Harry. Which Malfoy would have noticed if he didnt again find the 'blood traitors' more important then the clothing of the person he came to meet.
- Telling someone that you have more of a right to choose who you associate with when you dont know eachother is rude. Not even counting the fact that the two families are feuding. (Its like the Taiwan ordering Turkey not to trade with Austrailla because they no longer wish to)
- He insulted Harry's intelligence for associating with Weasleys.
- When he offered his hand he neither asked for friendship, aquaintanceship, nor allieship. He commanded to make decisions for Harry which is like saying become my vassle or servant.
So Harry is supposed to apologize for refusing to serve Draco but Draco isnt for around a dozen ettiquette breaches before that? Who here wishes there was a story where Harry tried to call a truce and Draco brought that up only to have everyone find out that Draco behaved even worse?
