I would like to see the dark side reading the books and staying dark and in character. No ridiculous soppyness from Bellatrix. They read the books and use the information to take over the wizarding world in an aftermath fic. Whether they win in the end or not is up to you, as well as whether it's a "happy" ending or a particularly dark fic. Keep pairings canon, please, but be reasonable with their scenes. I don't see canon Death Eaters being overly affectionate. Also, don't make Voldemort overly insane, and try to keep his punishments to the canon level and not go overboard. =) Write and enjoy.

How can you make Voldemort overly insane? In my opinion he is as insane as you can be.

There's a reason to his madness.

Yes there is, but those reasons made him as crazy as you can be.

I mean don't have him not understanding anything because he refuses to listen to anyone or have him punishing everyone left, right and centre. I've seen so many fics where he's just an idiot (more so than in canon) and have him Crucio his followers for even daring to make a comment. That's not how he works. He likes dragging things out, threatening them with pain before giving them pain later on. Not just "Silence, you fool! Crucio!"

You forget almost all of Harry's thoughts will be alien to him, not understanding love, true happiness, friendship, or selfsacrifice but yes Voldemort is already dramatic enough with out people overdoing the thing

I agree that fanfic versions of Voldemort have him being so stupidly cruel that I can't see how he has any followers. I've always wondered how the Death Eaters stay with him when he seems to want to torture them for sneezing.
Look at what happened in the actual books - he and the other DE just had a good chuckle about Lucius seeming to think that he would get Voldemort's wand. When you consider what his followers do to deserve a crucio in the fanfics, that was probably an AK offense.

I agree. Voldemort may hold the idiot ball at times, but I don't see him killing off all of his followers. He loves it when people worship him, after all.

That's what I mean. We hardly seem him punishing his followers with a crucio at all in the series. The only one I remember truly being mentioned is when he makes Draco crucio one of them, can't remember who right now.
I don't forget that at all. I'm well aware that that is definitely something he wouldn't understand. I wasn't talking about that sort of thing though. I've seen plenty of fanfics where he doesn't have a clue what a TV is, and sure they would have come out after he'd finished Hogwarts (I think) but I imagine him to be smart enough to at least know the general idea of what it is and how the postage system works. He might even make sure to keep track of muggle technology because, remember, he grew up in muggle London in the middle of World War II. He knows they have bombs and how dangerous they can be. He may have lost his sanity but he's not that stupid.

Actually, Tom casts it against Avery and Pettigrew in GoF, but those are the only Death Eaters we know he's cursed with it.
