Why is it that the evil people in movies or stories have the best fashion. In Harry Potter, Bellatrix Lestrange is evil, yet I love Helena Bonham Carter's costumes in them. In Once Upon a Time, Regina, the evil queen, has great outfits in fairytale land. And it also makes me wonder why we don't dress like that nowadays. If I could dress like that, I would.

Probably due to some sort of dress code. Or magic. Do you know how hard some of things are to get on and off? Believe me, I agree about the fashion, but sometimes logic doesn't work when trying to put on some of their styles...
Yes, I'm saying this for the evil bad guys too, not just the females!

If I could, I'd walk around in a giant ballgown that looked like it belonged to candy-land at one point but had knives and shurikens ands grenade pockets stiched in and on the dress...with an umbrella with a sword for a handle. Unfortunately, Trilonias was right, and logically speaking, I can't do that, not to mention Secret Services/CIA/FBI would have a field day trying to catch me. Bad guys can ignore the rules because that's what makes them bad

But there is nothing wrong with wearing a peasant shirts, bodices, or cloaks. If I could, I would wear a corset and peasant shirt everyday. In fact, I design clothes that are more that style. I love the Evil Queen's clothing. Her jackets are a work of art, Her dresses are awesome. Bellatrix had an amazing bodice. Why can't we wear them? In my opinion, evil people want to be better then everyone else, so they buy the best clothing as well as whatever it is that they do. You know Voldemort would want nothing but the best robes.

That sounds amazing!
And I do agree, Evil has a sense of style. But generally speaking, best is often equated with expensive, so it becomes a heinious trait to buy good clothes to highlight the difference between the selfish villain and selfless hero.

Costs is definitely a factor. At least I was able to get a trenchcoat... Those things aren't cheap!
Also, why do I feel that I'm going to be one of the only male commenting on this? (honestly, there's not many prolific male posters on this board...)

Evil does have a better dress sense than a lot of heroes. Does anyone else feel more sympathetic to the villain than the hero? I do sometimes. Plus the music for the bad guys is way better than the music for the good guys

True, the hero has to be selfless, otherwise it wouldn't be a story. But you know, the could be an appeal of being bad, to be able to do what you want and not worry about what other people think. No more, I Say! As soon as I am able, meaning I learn how to pattern-make or get enough money to buy patterns or clothes, I am wearing that style. Why should I not wear what I want, despite the fact that people will think I am crazy. That's my personality, what should I not show it. there is obviously an appeal for it, Pyramid Collection and Corset Story are just two online stores that you can get that sort of thing. And soon as we can manage it, Hazah Bakery/Boutique/Spa shall be a place where you can get clothes of that style, and hats in more the mad variety.

Plus the music for the bad guys is way better than the music for the good guys I do sometime feel sympathetic with the bad guy, but I always want good to win out in the end. I just more understand their frame of mind. I can understand Voldemort's twisted reality, but I don't agree with it. But I probably would love to roam his and the Malfoy's closets, probably would make for great inspiration.

Yeah, I got that... *laughs*
I do agree about the music thing as well.
As for the fashion... I've seen some people with fashions like that, but they mostly had to make it themselves... I call them cosplayers, because that's what they're mostly doing... and I'm usually at a convention with them. Haha. I'd do it myself, but I'm pants at it. And I don't feel an inclination to work on that.
Just do be aware of making something that would get in others' way. I think there are laws or something in place for that. Though I've seen some females wear some awesome stuff... I have to work at not staring ><

See, my style of dangerous and cutesy are considered hazards and probably illegal, so I just stick to being boring, for now.
But I do love bright colors and accessories. A hero with fashionn sense might be nice, finally someone to emulate a little. But he still isn't giving off the appeal of being bad. He needs to be anti-villain, so if the hero is stylish, the villian isn't. If their both sylish, it forces the two on equal grounds in one level, and that's something authors prefer to emphasize in backstories or traits. Physically you make them different,

I am one of those females that wants to wear that, whose life path is to study and create that. Hazah Bakery/Boutique/Spa, it needs to become a reality. It would be interesting though if the villain and the hero had styles that were so esthetically different, but to the different fashion groups, it is the best clothing. But instead of the bad Guy have the old-fashioned yet amazing clothes, you have the heroin have them, and the villain have the kind of fashion at is not clothes. Reference to something Tim Gunn said on Project Runway, though don't know if I spelled his name right.

Oooh! I love the Pyramid Collection but their stuff is expensive and so is trying to get medieval clothing to where to a renaissance faire. When I go to the faire around here I look at the clothes and drool. And yes villians do have some really cool clothes, like Azkadellia in Tin Man, love her outfits.

I'd buy if you opened the boutique. But otherwise, I'm stuck with cheap t-shirts with nerdy sayings reality sucks.

Well, I need to change reality. I have visions of hats and clothing that is wonderful, yet not that of today. Victorian twist on a timeless fashion. I love things like that, and I have endless ideas, visions that I can't even draw. Some wonder around in life wondering what their purpose in life is, well I know. I am to live in a place with overcast skies and sell to people who would appreciate it. And if you wanted something that I created, then we could come to an arrangement, or I would just give it to you if you will treasure it and are nice, maybe trade a little work for that item, or whatever. But I need to create, because this is my live. Mad Hats, Bodices, cloaks, corsets, petticoats, peasant shirts, the works. My mom used to work at the Renaissance fair, I got my style from her. Sometimes I feel like a girl out of time, dependent on the modern world, but with visions more toward the past.

And all of a sudden, I'm reminded of Steampunk.
G. Novella, that's my old fashion sense! What are you doing with it?!
Hopefully, you'll make something for us guys as well, right crystalhatter?

Of course, there is nothing hotter than a guy in those clothes, in my opinion. Watch out, Ladies! When I open to the world, your dream mad hatter will be able to sweep you off your feet in Crystal Mahterz, or Hatter, or Hailstorm, or Thorsland, or Clearwaterz originals. I haven't decided which last name to take. Course, there will be more things than that for guys, but I won't sell anything that doesn't look hot. Hopefully my store will be up in Northern California, I hate So Cal. Nevermind about the store, we will have a store, but it won't sell any clothes or hats or anything that I made. I realised that it was stupid of me to think that I could, so I have given up on my dreams. The world gives you situations that you must deal with, and I need to deal with the fact that I will never find a place that truly feels like home, and that is the only place that I can access that part of myself anymore. Now I'll just help with the bakery.

Plus the music for the bad guys is way better than the music for the good guys Agreed there. Some of my favourite music to play are the evil guy's themes. Darth Vador and the Emperor's march from Star Wars, Voldemort's theme from Philosopher's Stone (is it the same throughout the series), and Umbridge's theme from OOTP. And yes, it does seem that the majority of the time the evil guys have the better clothing.

Judge Claude Frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame gets a truly epic (and more than slightly hypocritical) villain song.
And some nice duds, too. Very Snape-esque

Voldemort's theme is different throughout the movies. 1 and 2 are the same and the best, 4 has it's own theme, no theme in 5 (but Umbridge's theme makes up for that), No theme in 6, not sure about the last two. Be Prepared in Lion Ling and Hellfire in Hunchback of Notre Dame are the best Disney villain songs Darth Vader's and the Emperor's themes are awesome in Star Wars. The Joker in Batman the Animated Series has a good theme as well.

Yes... and Unicron's theme is another, along with Kill the Beast (Gaston) and video games bosses.
Admittedly, not all villians get good stuff... some get crappy outfits and themes.

I love evil people's fashion, I think their wardrobe comes down to this:Power. Most baddies are incredibly powerful, so they need an outfit to look the part.

I'm talking about the Disney one, of course! Nothing beats the classics! But seriously, that dress was rather fitting for an evil queen, don't you think? I'm also fond of Poison Ivy's look from Batman the Animated Series.
