I have been toying with the idea of Approaching Point Given with adding a second skin layout to this site so those that does not like the white can go a Dark Skin. That said I have created this one after thinking of the coloring to use and decided to base it off FF.net's Dark Layout for reading. As I do not know about you all but it is hard to read on the white background after a bit of time passes. phoenixfantasy.proboards.comI have it set as the Default skin for everyone to see. So tell me what you think, and if everyone likes it I might suggest it to Point Given. The link color gave me the hardest problem *sigh* so let me know how they look on your computer please.

That looks nice, but for me it's actually harder to see. Of course, something like that might be nice for night-time reading as it isn't as bright.

I like it too. I prefer dark skinned forums - because my eyes hurt when trying to read from a white background.

Hmm is there a color that would be in between the light and dark that could work for you? I might can make up a neutral tone skin as well. I like it too. I prefer dark skinned forums - because my eyes hurt when trying to read from a white background. I don't mind light skins but I do agree they start hurting my eyes after a while, one reason I got for dark or avoid blinding colors.

As long as the skins are nice to look at without detracting from reading, I'm perfectly okay with it.

That dark skin is nice, but I prefer it as it is now. Been working for way too long with antique computers where the screen was black and the text green or orange. It nearly ruined my eyes, and now I prefer black on white. But I believe that's something very different for people.

*nods*
But it would be nice to pick from a couple different skins to vary tastes and reading clarity.
For those that may not know, Proboards allows more then 1 skin on the forum, you then pick the one you want in the Modify Profile page of your Profile.

I like the idea of having a dark skin for the board. I htink it would be good to have for nighttime reading because the white background is kind of exhausting for reading with artificial light - or at least it is for me. One question though: Is it intended that your preview board is only about 60% of the screen width? At least on my screen it leaves a lot of space left and right of the board simply dark. Personally, I prefer that the board fills out 90% of the screen width (like the current skin theme on this board does)...

Yes it is intended, I have a resize code there. Often it would have a background to be seen in that area, and as well for smaller screens like the what is it 600 by 800 screens? But anyways not everyone does it. It is done through the Header/Footer coding area in Admin.
So changing the skin would not alter the board size. ^^

Ah. Alright. Thanks for clearing that up. This is the first proboards-board I've joined, so a lot of the stuff regarding the board itself is still kind of new to me.

It is alright, I myself was new to Proboards once upon a time, it takes a while to get used to things.
Luckily boards like this one does not need all the bells and whistles that other sites use to make them look nice. Here basics works just fine, so no need for all that other coding stuff. ^^

Here is my site Duprie Limited I have a Skin's area. Though it has not been updated as not really created any recently for public use, but I have a good handful, and all are fairly basic. Though I will give you kudos for doing a decent job, your not the worst one I have ever seen.

lol one my oldest friends created her first forum and it was Neon Lime Green, Neon Teal and Neon Blue... It was so blinding but could not get her to change it lol.. I think it nay have had Neon Red as well but cannot remember.
But have a look in my skins I am sure I may have one that will fit your theme. And if not.... I MIGHT, be up for making one from scratch, no promises though....

Just snooped around a bit. And I really like your "Soft Green" one. Unfortunately, I don't need a personal board right now, otherwise I would kidnap that skin.

lol Well more then welcome to it, if and when you create a site ^^ I rather enjoyed making the "Soft Series" they are bright and cheerful and about as soft color wise I could get without being blinded by them. Plus they are the most Basic of the ones I created, being so simple in design.

Plus they are the most Basic of the ones I created, being so simple in design. That's just the thing I like most about it, to be honest. I can't stand skins or themes that are overloaded with frilly patterns or dozens of images... those just distract from the really important things, i.e. the content. (And most of the time they also look kinda unprofessional...)

True, I have evolved in skin making over time where try not to be to busy, is anything I try to have my background and banner be the most graphic in looks, though I have created some pretty wicked skins Green and Gold, and Odd Green being two that come to mind where it looks busy. Though Odd Green I should have gone bit more basic with it's background, now that I look at it again lol.

These screaming colours hurt my eyes, and flashing text, banners or ads distract from the content. It's a sure-fire way to drive me off a website! That's what I love about this board - it's reduced to the necessities and doesn't distract from them.

What about this for a neutral toned skin? It is actually one of my pre-made ones but that coloring is a pain to work with.

Looks good. I like colour schemes that are a bit muted in contrast to these lurid bright ones that are around. Especially if I'm going to read long texts (like, e.g. an RtB chapter) in it.

Interesting site choice, given the hundreds there are online, you happen to find one of the few I am a member on lol, Sadly it has kinda died there because of RL issues.
