Well this thread I shall try to keep updated the best I can with the links to other threads that hold Useful information that you may be looking for but not exactly sure where is. News: You will no longer be able to find the stories here as we had to remove them or have the whole forum Deleted, so we chose the lesser of two evils. So you can find the stories posted on various other sites. You will have to ask the Authors what sites they have used.Site UpdatesJust a thread for Site Updates, which will be posted by the Admin. On Adult MaterialAdult Content Warning!!! Sad but true, someone had to burst our Happy Bubble, but could be worse, could have gotten NO Warning at all. How to backup a storyThis thread gives you information on a few sites that let you download a copy of fanfics so you have a backup copy or if you just want a copy for yourself ^^ Be Sure to Backup Your Fics!A good reminder to be sure and Back up your stories. FOR ALL FANFIC AUTHORS: Automatically bold textThis is a tutorial in how to format a copied txt file in a rather ingenious and quick way. Saved StoriesThis thread has a listing of stories backed up by various people, each have them listed differently but if you read through it you may can find one you want. IRC Super ThreadInformation on the Chatroom setup, where we can talk in real time. Optional obviously, but such things can be great fun. This should be mandatory readingHas link to a site that offers some useful lessons on grammar. Non-Harry Potter: Reading the Books SiteThis Site is for other series who are going to read their own series books, like Percy Jackson, Reads: Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief. If you write those types then the site linked above is what you are looking for ^^ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *sigh* No longer allowed to post RTB Stories, but we might be starting some Non-RTB Stories if I have read a few posts right.Posting Your Own Stories
For those that may not know as it is not exactly said here except in passing, is how to get your own area to post your own Reading the Books, series.
Well it is rather simple really, you just need to PM or Private Message, Point Given, Here, and ask him for your own area. By area I mean Board and Sub-Board.
We now have a Co-Admin, Congrats again to ShotgunWilly
Same rules apply for ShotgunWilly as Point Given. But he does have an additional Rule that should be added to Point Given's in my opinion as it is most Logical. From his post in the thread listed there in welcoming him as an Admin.
I am in total agreement who needs 7 Sub-forums or more when they only have Book 1 half finished?
So if you need a board you can contact ShotgunWilly through PM Here

If the thread is locked, can people still reply?

If it was locked, then no you cannot reply to it. But this has only been made an announcement, so yes you can reply. Though I would prefer to keep it as an information linking thread only, hence why I went with Index and not Thread in the title.
I am posting the links to other threads that people have posted, that have useful info that we can use.

Please can you correct the spelling in the title? It should be 'Useful' - there is no 'r'.

puedes ayudarme como es la forma en la que puedo dar los comentarios a otras historias, por favor Assuming it was translated right... Well every story in the boards has a Review Board, you just either Reply to a preexisting thread or create a new thread with your review. If in the Challenge Story area, the Authors post the story and a Review thread, in which case to post in the review thread. Beyond that answer you would need to be more specific in the question.

Where would I find the story's? I can only find the discussions and reviews.

The stories had to be deleted. After someone (we suspect the CU guys from FFN) reported them to the Proboards admins, Point Given was told that they have to go, or the whole board would be deleted. so we had to remove the stories to save at least the discussion part, and we left the reviews, as they don't contain book text.

Where would I find the story's? I can only find the discussions and reviews. To answer the first part of your question: - some are on yourfanfiction.com - others on assorted other pages (livejournal, google, etc.) The best way to find them is to contact the authors directly and ask.

Post by Worrying News on May 7, 2016 12:58:14 GMT -5
I will first admit that I am...well, not scared, but extremely worried. I am writing this post anonymously to both avoid leading any trolls back to me (though I do not have any RTB's, still rather not), others, and, if need be, this post can be deleted/removed(?) if it looks like it may cause trouble. In addition, any lurkers/authors that want to do these types of stories etc. can also know this for future reference. Anyway, I found out about some stuff a few months ago, and I kept meaning to post about my experience and research here, but I keep forgetting and life just got to me.... Some time ago, like many others, I remember reading RTB's on fanfiction and here, and found out later, also like others, that they were getting deleted without warning (from fanfic anyway), while the boards managed to stay up. Like everyone else, I tried to follow authors around etc. Livejournal came up a lot and so I made an account there. Very few moved there, but those that did, I tried to read them. While waiting in-between, I started getting into LJ and well, the rest is pretty much history for me. I did not write stories, but talked about life etc. and next thing I knew, I had a small following and such. I got into LJ so much that I pretty much read fanfic or otherwise less, and that included RTB's (I am sorry! ), so I did not find out about other deletions until somewhat recently as I thought about reading fanfic again. While that may seem irrelevant, let me go on... So, fast forward to a few years later and a few months back mixed with life getting in the way etc., I ended up getting a warning about one of my posts from the LJ staff. I had, apparently, forgot to tag it for adult content or something. They didn't delete my post because it was an easy fix. Since I had their attention, I then asked them about copyrighted material (I did not say RTB's to avoid them looking them up or something). And I was basically told that in order for copyrighted material to be removed, the original owners or their representatives (lawyers?) had to complain, AKA, file a take down notice (a DMCA I think?). Normal reporters, such as trolls, the CU, or whoever is causing trouble, cannot report it to them. THEY WILL IGNORE IT! Apparently, it cannot be 'faked' either, as the take down or whatever has to have signatures and so on on it, a lot of real life information. Unless there is a CU member or troll that does work for J.K., there is no way around it. 'Normal' reports, such as about my adult content post, can be reported and fixed (or deleted) because it is not a copyrighted issue. This is worrying, because that means if your story was removed or deleted from LJ or any site like LJ, it means that the copyrighted owner, J.K. for Harry Potter obviously, asked/demanded to have your story removed...and that they saw it too. And this is where it has me extremely worried. It could very well mean that they not only know about you (IP address?), but are watching you (as in authors) and could be the ones reporting or having your material removed everywhere. This is not to say that the CU or whoever may not be doing this, but in the case of LJ and other sites like it, it really has to mean that J.K. or the publisher/whoever saw it and filed a notice to have it removed are real... and that can very well mean that they are not only watching you, but have a record/copy of your story for reference, and that is pretty scary. Thinking on it further, the mailing list, it could very well mean that they could sign up for it, see the material is real, and then they will have the means to send the notice directly to you...and to them, that may look like you have no excuse on why you are uploading the material. The website owners will not get the notice, but you will and therefore, the punishment or whatever falls on you. And that bothers me more. Don't get me wrong, I love RTB's, but I do not want to get into legal trouble for it. I was planning to write one long ago, but LJ distracted me and I did that instead. I do not want to say that I am glad for not writing it, but I am mostly. Because I do not want to get into that kind of trouble, especially since I do want to one day write stories and publish them. The people that may watch over my own book could be the very same ones that watch J.K's stuff, and I have a feeling that they would be very iffy/mad at me if they traced back and saw that I wrote RTB stuff (to be clear, no I have not) and ignored their warning by uploading it. It can not only ruin my own career, but any other members that are linked to me and the community itself. So for me personally, I will not write an RTB to avoid getting into that kind of hole. and I wanted to post this for others that may not know. Concerning my research, I wanted to see if it was possible to see or find a takedown notice, and I found this site after a lot of searching: lumendatabase.org For the heck of it, I search for fanfiction.net (or was it fanfiction?), and a lot came up...apparently the admins on the site can remove your story not only due to reports, but due to a take down notice. A few I saw (RTB's), I recognized the story links, and it may explain why a few were deleted by the author and not the admins or vice-versa (I will not list here to avoid bringing direct notice to them). I also noticed that others have not been deleted yet, even for some a few years back. Could be a lot of reasons for that; maybe the story changed? admins forgot/skipped by accident? Who knows, and I doubt I would get a response if I asked, and I rather not do that either to avoid, again, bringing notice to them or myself. I am sharing this because I am worried, and others that still post their material on LJ or elsewhere...please think about it, it can possibly ruin your future career or current one if they are aware of you, more so if you want to write original stuff and publish it one day. Doing a mailing list may be really risky if you caught their attention, and there is no way of knowing if it is J.K's representatives or not before accepting or listing them. Personally, I do not want to anger my favorite author. This is not to stop you from writing it if you want, make no mistake of that, but I really ask those of you out there to be careful and to only think about it is all. Sorry for the length. Did not think it would be long. To shorten it: - J.K's or her representatives might be watching/reporting your RTB story/ies too, with a legal document, which may or may not have additional information about you (where you live etc.). This can possibly ruin your future writing career or current one if you ever decide to publish with them and/or become a big author. Thanks and take care everyone (or those left here). I will lurk around here for the next few days likely and post further on this (if allowed) if there are any questions and i can share more about my research. hopes this posts right...tablets are hard to copy/paste and write from.... *Again, feel free to remove this post if it looks like it will draw bad attention etc., but I do ask that it at least be kept personally and pass it on, if possible, about this strong possibility. I did not want to PM anyone or put this under any author's topic either, to avoid looking like I am 'pointing' or something, and to let any future RTB authors know if they plan to post it elsewhere.

You know, LJ comes once again off much more sensible there. At least they can ask to change the rating - I know of at least one case where FFN just kicked a story out without warning, with the excuse that the rating was wrong. Mind you, even the raised rating would still have been within the guidelines, but why bother asking the author to change it, let's just delete it ... Glad to hear they were more considerate in your case, which was probably just an accident anyway.
Thank you for this warning; it was actually an interesting read, and I don't see any reason to delete it. We have been wondering about the deletions for ages, because there was never a recognisable pattern to the RtB story deletions (and some others, for that matter). It is certainly worrying in a way if the authors themselves and their lawyers are behind at least some of them; this could get the authors of the stories into serious trouble. There are relatively few of these stories left in comparison to earlier times, and what is left is mostly abandoned, but that would be enough to get the authors into trouble.
Though that leaves me wondering if I should just delete all the posts about sharing stories, even though no one sends them out any more and hasn't been for ages. But it's so much work to find them all and delete them *sigh*

Yeah. It was pretty much an accident, plus I rarely have "adult content" on it. Glad the staff noticed it that way and not just delete my post...or worse. Welcome! I kept meaning to post about it, but, such is life. Anyway, I guess I was nervous or something, and I am somewhat noticing that the activity here is not as high as before, so, my fear there was for not. But yeah, for at least a few of them, the author or their representative would be behind the deletions, or at least demanding the removal of the story, sadly. I personally would not risk writing one now. For me, too much would be at stake. Wish I had discovered this years ago, would have shared this sooner. Guess better late than never... And yeah, leaving an RTB up anyway would be risky, because it can still be seen, even if it is abandoned. Hopefully more guests and authors will see my post to know how high the risks can be and make the best decision for themselves. Only time will tell now... I'll leave that decision up to you. If hardly anyone is doing it here, there is little point IMHO.
