UGH! I'm trying to help this person who wants me to beta their story and they don't know how to use DocX. So I tried to give them my email, I wrote it out in the PM and I sent it. I just now noticed, after the person sent another PM saying "here is my email" but with not email address after it, that my email address doesn't show up! FFnet took it out automatically! How can they do that! How do I get this person's story to beta if they can't use DocX!? This is stupid! We should be able to send our emails to each other!

Did you put spaces in the email. It usually works that way if you do. It's kinda like you do with websites as well. Profile it stays but in PM/reviews they take out the email/website.

It's quite annoying, yes. Have had the problem many times myself. You have to put it like mailaddress @ gmail . com or mailaddress (at) gmail (dot) com. Such an additional bother!
Just out of curiosity, how does docX work? My friend and I used for a story we work on together google docs, which has the great advantage that more than one person can use the same document at the same time (let me tell you, at first it's creepy when the text moves while you do nothing!), but there's a sidebar where you can chat with the others, so you can discuss changes and opinions or just get sidetracked altogether.

well, you have to connect. either one sends the other a request and you have to reply. When you are connected you use the "doc manager" but instead of "story" format, you use "DocX". When you do that you can only send it to each other. When you get the chapter back then you have to go and redo the whole thing using "Story" format.

Sounds rather a lot of bother ... I know that between Google docs and Word the exchange is no problem, you can copy text back and forth and the formatting stays the same. Not sure how that works between these and FFN, though.

Not sure how that works between these and FFN, though. oh, the format for the story itself stays the same. The formatting I'm talking about between "story" and "DocX " is that the "docX " formatting is to use only for DocX, sending between two people. you can't use that format to make a story, you have to use "Story" format to make a story. It has nothing to do with the text at all.

Ah so ... sorry, misunderstood that. That's the problem when you don't have seen it for yourself. Well, we were going to post our story if we ever finish it on FFN, but seeing as the RtB stories get kicked out anyway and our muses have run off together, I don't know if we ever will.

can anyone explain to me why FF is showing stories from years ago (abandoned ones) as new ones? or is it just happening to me?

Not noticed that yet, but I don't spend much time there any more. Frankly, I've given up to try and understand what they are doing!

Oh, as an excuse not to deal with technical issues FFN would still have its use.

Still refusing to use a phone to begin with As I am in no mood to deal with FFN right now, I'm trying to work on my own story for a change. The discussions here have managed to lure my muse into at least a new attempt, and I'm under order to continue the story anyway

I haven't been on ff.net as much recently, only when an email has alerted me that a story has been updated, then I use it. Occasionally I go to my favourites which doesn't have an email attachment to see what's recently been updated. At present I'm remaining neutral regarding the very recent changes. Have no underlying need to check out and use.
No matter what, phoenixwing31284, the story is still going to be good.

yup. i find the phone version to be easier. no reviews or messages but it's still quite good I get messages, but I can't check my stories for reviews and such. I can look at my favorites, which I like better on my phone because they actually go in the order they were posted, a thing that the actual site doesn't do, and it is easier to remember which ones I read.

Anyone having trouble with ffnet? I can't read a story. It says it won't connect to the server, which is weird since I'm on 3G and it usually doesn't say that unless I don't have any Internet. I can access my account and refresh it with no problem and I can go anywhere else, like this site. I'm on my phone because we don't have any Internet at our house, we are going to get that fixed tomorrow as it seems everyone has Internet and we are all on the same server ;P.

It went out last night like this too. Maybe they are updating the servers or something along those lines? I have noticed that it seems to go out around 12:00-2:30 AM in the US timezone.

Very possible, they'd do it at a time when only the night owls are up and most people in bed.
