Except Voldemort is sort of proof that a child conceived when one party is under the influence of a love potion often goes badly. Non of the Weasley children are psychopaths nor are the children that Ginny and Harry had (though James does seem like a arse). What you forget here is the fact that Merope was already inbred to the point of no return. That has to have some influence on the child, too. What about the fact that Dumbles was the one to go and get Tommy Boy and so knew what his life was like at the orphanage yet never did anything to help him? Then, think about how Dumbles manipulated Severus into setting himself up as a spy or never helping him with the bullying done by the Marauders. Dumbledore never helped Severus feel that his life was really worth much, especially with what happened after the almost losing it due to Sirius. He was also the one to insist that Harry be placed at the Dursleys then continued to send him back there. In Deathly Hallows after Harry lets himself be killed, Dumbledore admits to him that he kept turning down positions of power to stay at Hogwarts and still played with the lives of many like they were pieces on a chessboard. I'm not sure where or when I read something to the affect that, Dumbledore wanted Harry brought up in a similar environment to that of Tom so that Dumbledore could ease his guilt for not helping Tom. If Harry turned out the same as Tom then it was Dumble's fault for what Voldie did during his life, as the environment made the man. *nods vigorously* And don't forget, Dumbledore admitted in OotP after his idiocy did cost Sirius' life that he knew about the abuse and still kept sending Harry back. As for this idea that turns the whole thing into a sociological experiment, yes, I've seen that in a few fanfics, and the worst is, I can even see it. And as Harry turned out better, Dumbledore could tell himself nothing of what Voldemort did was his fault. I plan to use those ideas on my earlier postings and these here for my story when it starts being posted. - I don't understand why Mrs. Weasley would have spoken out in a place full of muggles about the platform 9 3/4, she didn't do it the following year. What circumstances changed? They already had Harry with them. - I'm borderline about Hermione and it really depends on how the story is written. - I never understood how after Harry became a part of the wizarding world that Harry wasn't at least told about his fanmail. This way it would be up to him on what to do with it. Excuse me, there had to have been fanmail with him being The-Boy-Who-Lived. Sounds good to me. The first point about the platform could be explained away as her being flustered, but I like the idea much better that she was told to keep an eye out for Harry to set him up with a proper light family with their heads up Dumbledore's arse. Hermione - she can be taken in different ways, yes. Bossy know-it-all with too much love for rules and authority, most noticeable the MOB. Or she can be tuned down a bit. Yeah, the mail ... and ANYTHING about his parents. What did he know, save that he looked like his father and had his mother's eyes, and their names? His father was playing Quidditch, their best subjects ... what else? A few things came up in OotP thanks to the pensieve, and they only served to ruin his father for him. No one bothered to tell him more about his parents. I always wondered if Dumbledore was behind Sirius and Remus not talking more to him and if Molly interfered during the holidays in OotP. And don't tell me that there was no other way to destroy the Horcrux in Harry save to kill him. Besides, making one is a very dark ritual, so can the one soulpiece in Harry even be a full Horcrux, seeing as Moldyshorts didn't have any chance to complete a ritual? I doubt it's all done in advance, the victims won't allow him to finish that before killing them.

Exactly, Kitty! There has to be another way, though maybe not even Fuckledore knew about it. If he did, that makes it even worse. Not that I wouldn't put it past him...

Except he does.
Sirius himself is a cousin of some degree, as is Arthur, and through him his kids. Same goes for Neville, and Molly (all through the Blacks). I'm sure there are others, thanks to the inbreeding.

*grin* Sherza, we were once again typing about the same at the same time Exactly, Kitty! There has to be another way, though maybe not even Fuckledore knew about it. If he did, that makes it even worse. Not that I wouldn't put it past him... Same here. Please, think about it logically. He had access to Grimmauld Place, where is a library. The library of one of the darkest families. How likely is it that he could find something about Horcruxes there and the way to deal with them? But did he do it? No, he rather put idiotic complicated schemes into play to set Harry up to suicide. Gives me the idea that, if he hadn't died before, he would then have gone to defeat Moldyshorts and show himself as the Greatest once again, while shedding a few fake tears about the poor deceased BWL.

*laughs* I know, right? That whole bunch is bonkers.
But in all seriousness, the entire Black clan is related to Harry, through Dorea Potter nee Black. Whether or not she is James' mother (which I believe she was ... JKR admitted she sucks at maths, so we can discount the age at death ... everything else works out for her and Charlus being James' parents), she was still married into the Potter clan somewhere north of Harry, and since purebloods tend to one kid, that would make her a great-grandmother or some such, and still directly related to Harry.

I agree, a lot. The fact that Harry was basically told that he doesn't really have any other family is a pure lie, and it's just as sick as telling Harry that his parents died in a car crash! Damn that old fool!

Damn that old fool! Tell me about it. Although, in one respect, I can understand Dumbledore doing the fudging. Because who was Harry's most influential relatives? Narcissa Malfoy. Anyone else having nightmares of what could have, would have happened to Harry if Narcissa and Lucius had got their hands on him? *horrified shudder*

Okay, good point... very good point. *frowns* But I still don't like the fact that Dumbledore didn't explain any of it to Harry.

I don't like it either. At the very least, Dumbledore could have explained it post-year-three, when the whole Sirius thing came up, which would had brought family in general into Harry's consciousness far more sharply, and he was old enough at that point to not go 'I have relatives? *jumps at joining them, regardless of who they are*'

Very true, but there could have been a lot of temptation to do so. Especially if the Dursleys ever pushed him too far.

He could have, yes, but that would have meant that Harry could have contacted these persons and they might have interfered with his plans, right?

Yeah, but at that point he also had Sirius, and had had some VERY bad interactions not only with Draco but with Lucius, so he'd not have gone running to them. Might have gone straight to Andromeda though, if he'd ever found out she was related to him. *snerk*. She and Cedrella (Arthur's mum) are the only other 'decent' Blacks still alive other than Sirius.

I would have liked to see Harry seek help from Andromeda. That would have been pretty awesome! And plus, Dumbles would have had a wrench thrown into his plans!

Ha, yes. And Cedrella, too. Plus, Andromeda is Tonks' mum, who in turn could have tried to get Amelia on board to get Sirius free ... There were so many possibilities that were simply ignored.

Yeah, he would have. You know Tonks would have had a REALLY fun time pretending to be Harry and running all over god's creation, making Dumbledore play 'where's Harry'.

Ooohhh - I love that idea! As an adult, she could even have apparated around, driving the old codger insane because his pawn always vanished when he shouldn't be able to! *evil grin*

Best part is, if this is being done after she graduates (which is either the year before Harry arrives at Hogwarts or the same year) ... she's in Auror training, and an adult, and free and clear to hex the bastard in sneaky ways ... and she could probably pull it off to where he doesn't see/hear her do a spell, thus making him think Harry is doing some hella powerful accidental magic and is after his skinny, saggy, wrinkly ass.

Something else about having access to Grimmauld Place, Dumbles has been there many times between OoTP and HBP and he never noticed the locket, even when they were cleaning up the place. Then there is the moment where Sirius shows Harry the Black family tapestry and yet didn't explain how he was related to it. There was a story that I read on fanfiction.net where Harry chooses to return to the past instead of the present when he left the fuzzy Kings Cross near the end. It has Harry finding out quite a few things and becoming friends with several purebloods in an effert to help them not feel as if they had to turn to Voldie. It was a really well written story, but unfinished. I can kind of understand where people come from when talking about the influence Narcissa would have on a nieve Harry Potter, but think about the woman at the final battle who lied to Voldie about Harry's death in order to protect her son.

Two things.
1) That was only one moment
2) That was *her son*. NOT a distant cousin.
