Just how tall is Harry Potter I've read fics where he's quite tall, others where he's average height, then some where he just brushes 5'5"

I've always pictured both Harry and Ron as being over 6' by the time they're adults, with Harry being about an inch or two taller than Ron. I don't know why.

I don't think that would be true to canon, though, as Ron is always described as being the tallest of his family. He passes the Twins' height quite early on, if I remember correctly. I don't think Harry was overly tall, but we know he was at least James' height at the end of DH (epilogue not included).

However, if we're creating AU stories, do we really want to stick to canon? That just defeats the purpose of AU.

Indeed, which is why i don't care when people do change that kind of thing.

Nor do I. And in the stories I'm trying to write, but may not upload anywhere, I've got Harry at 6'6", Ron at 6'4" and Hermione just above 5'8".

Likewise. I mean, cannon is great. Weather you like it or not, it is the HP world. But, cannon is a lot of fun to mess with and play with at will. I love it when cannon is defied.

Which is why I'm trying to write a Harry/Lucius story containing Hermione/Draco, with Ron still a good guy just not involved with anyone, yet.

o.o Harry/Lucius? ? *is scared* I actually hate cannon Lucius quite a lot, but like him in AU. Is there a link to this story of yours?

I haven't actually got it uploaded anywhere, yet, it's still not quite ready for public viewing, but I hope to have it done soon.

Harry would definitely be on the short side, thanks to chronic malnourishment as a child (to varying degrees of severity. I'm sorry, but if 'two pieces of bread and a chunk of cheese', 'a bowl of soup', and 'less-than-a-quarter-of-a-grapefruit' with *nothing* else were regularly considered to be Harry's meals, he wasn't getting enough calories OR the correct nutrients for optimal growth. He'd definitely be in the 5'8" to 5'10" range.
This is my favorite (and usually first) thing to fix when I write fics. *grumblegrowls*

to be fair, since he catches up to his dad's height by the time he watches snapes memories, I figure that M. Pomphrey slipped him nutrition potions when she could. It was the only way I saw him catching up in height to his dear old dad.

I think it had more to do with JKR not having a clue about the effects of malnourishment than anything anyone in the book did. According to how little food he was given, he shouldn't have even been able to digest a proper meal, let alone grow tall from them.

I agree, however I still hope that she might have still tryed to potion him up as much as she could. She could have told the elves to slip them in his juice too. I'm usually a realist, but some part of my is optimistic that she would be a healer and heal him up.

Though it *is* likely that Pomphrey slipped him some potions during his frequent stays, or he would have fallen victim to any one of a number of debilitating problems that the chronically malnourished suffer from.

If you must have an in-universe explanation, then that is the likely one, but it is not likely what the author intended.

well the author doesn't use logic so thats not too hard.

I've been looking at some diseases that are caused by malnutrition, and quite a few of them are horrible. Here's the page I'm looking at. For those of you who think Harry should be short, (and I'm one of them), read the one called Marasmus.

I would put Harry's height during 6th and 7th year to be between 5'8"-5'10" since he had a growth spurt during the summer of his 6th year. Before that time, I would say he was around 5'4"-5'6" during 3rd and 4th year.

Yikes. That's just ... frightening. Sad thing is, Harry could potentially have been suffering from any one of those, if things had been done realistically. *Especially* scurvy. The Dursleys don't seem to be the sort to go in for fruits and veggies, at least not until Dudley's enforced diet, so the chances of Harry getting any are thus reduced even further.

I like to think the only thing preventing Harry from having those diseases is his own magic. Maybe Harry was born with a lot of magical power, but the severe neglect and varying degree of abuse hindered that growth and forced his magic to keep him relatively healthy.

That was an interesting article, Pinky.
I do tend to think that Harry's magical core did allow him to remain relatively healthy. Also, I don't know what British primary schools are like, but wouldn't some of them serve a nutritious lunch? If so, I can see Harry getting one square meal a day during the school year.

Thank you. *bows*
I think that while they would serve a nutritious lunch, they wouldn't buy it for Harry. I'm betting Petunia got away with packing the bare minimum, and not even that on some occasions. Just enough to keep the teachers from checking.

I agree with that, Kuma. They would never have paid for his school lunches.

Yeah, especially considering the fact that they ALREADY complain that Harry costs them money. Even though Dudley is the one eating them out of house and home!

I'm pretty sure Harry was twelve feet tall, and weighed seven hundred pounds of pure muscle.
