Exactly! And while on the subject of Skeeter: CAN'T THE BITCH MIND HER OWN FUCKING MANNERS? I loathe that woman, though nowhere near as much as Umbitch. >=o You know your Killing Voldie and Umbridge posts? What about a thread of methods to kill Skeeter?

That seems . . . cruel. For all three of those people. Really, they were all just trying to make it in the world in the ways they knew how. Though they did hurt people, intentionally, too, in their minds, they were just . . . succeeding.
Look at Voldemort. Growing up in the orphanage, he found out, much like Dudley and Draco, that bullying and/or hurting others and what they cared for helped him. It's possible he had some sort of problem with emotions, and so felt no shame with what he was doing. Since he was never officially caught/scared the people working there, he wouldn't completely know what he was doing was wrong. By the time Dumbledore came around, he would've been in too deep/liked what he did too much.
For Umbridge, she's just obssessed with rules. In her world, everything must be perfect and have order. Chaos or anything threatening her perfect world, would have to be shut down and fast.
As for Skeeter, yes I do admit she's awful. They all are, along with many, many others in this series, but she, like the others, is just trying to make it in the world. She's found out that if you put others down, make their reptations questionable, she succeeds and they fail.
Yes, they're bad people, but they're still people.

They may be people, but they're also fictional characters. Killing them is great fun!

Ally, you know that we don't take these threads seriously, right? When you look over some of the suggestions, they are more silly than cruel.

But that should be the last ones, it gets too much. We can't have the late comers get not enough fun, after all, because we are running out of ideas.

Speaking of the whole skeeter and cupboard moment in GoF, did anyone else find it slightly disturbing that she was coming on to Harry, a 14yr old? What with purposely standing in the doorway so Harry would have to squeeze by her and the looks she was giving him. I have read quite a few CR's where the adults suspect Lockhart of doing something sexual to Harry and/or other students maybe someone could use this scene in one of their CR's even if it is from the movie. It would be interesting to read the adults reaction to it.

I don't think it was sexually, it was more like a predator eying it's prey. She wanted the credit of being the first to get an interview with the Boy-Who-Lived. She's not a good woman, but I don't see her as a pedophile either. I've always suspected her type is a rich old man with connections

But yeah even though I still think she was eyeing him up for reasons other than just a story I can see her going after some rich old guy with connections....actually I can see her going after anyone who could advance her career or social standing.

Okay, when did we get from signs of abuse including living in a cupboard, to the distubing and rightly secret affairs of adults most of us have NO intention of hearing the sex life of?

When she said Harry should feel right at home in the broom cupboard, I always thought her to be referencing the fact that he's perfectly at home on a broom. Was that just me?

Was I the only one who thought that her saying that he was perfectly at home in a cupboard, referenced the fact that he lived in a cupboard?

One of the few
Mostly because none of the rest of us can figure out how she'd have known about that. The only evidence is that first Hogwarts letter ... which came from Hogwarts. YEARS before she started going after him. And it got destroyed. Harry never told anyone else about the cupboard, so how in the name of heck was she to know?

I chalked it up to a plot hole. They don't need to be explained away, they just exist sometimes.

I always thought she was referencing he lived in a cupboard to lucyolsen. I didn't understand how she knew and why she hadn't printed a front page story about it but I just figured it was one of those things that happen with movies, like the scene of her finding out about the cupboard was cut but they forgot or couldn't cut out that line. Or it could have just been a plot hole like you said.

I was sitting at my computer writing the begingings of an rtb, when out of nowhere It goes into harry and his punishments and the word freak. I swear I was not intending to go there but all of a sudden I have an expose on what vernon would do to Harry if he told anyone about the word freak (as in Harry is little and just casually mentions it to a teacher that it is his name). I have Vernon forcing cleaning solutions down his throat. and yes there have been cases of abuse like that, where sick peoiple do that to others as punishment. with this one paragraph my story has run off on me. Sorry I just felt the need to vent on that.
