I love good Harry with a Backbone, Harry being Heir of a founder/s. Harry being sorted into diferent houses. etc.

I love the following kinds of stories:
Harry is rescued from the Dursleys and heals from the abuse placed on him.
Sirius and Remus act as parents to Harry.
Dumbledore is called out for being a manipulative bastard.
Draco is given a chance to better himself.
Severus rescues an abused Draco and adopts him.
Severus goes through character development and becomes better off as a result.
Neville and Harry become friends earlier on, and Neville starts to believe in himself sooner because of it.

Harry and Sirius get to live together wether it's after the 1st war, Harry's school years before the war or during the 2nd war.
I love Harry in Azkaban stories. I don't know about you guys but those types of stories are good. One thing though, Sirius should believe Harry is innocent. He was thought to be a traitor as well so he could empathize.
Read the Books and their sequels-I love Hogwarts reads where Umbridge and Fudge get taken down. OoTP reads the books during 5th year, Harry and Sirius bonding.

I will also add: Severus acting as guardian, mentor, or otherwise just manning up and treating Harry lke he's something other than James reborn. Dumbledore having to face true consequences for his assholish manipulativeness. Harry using the brains god gave him, and/or refusing to be a pawn, using the Slytherin side of his mentality, etc. |

I enjoy:
Harry rescued from the Dursleys and goes to live with either Remus, Sirius, or both of them.
There are a few 'Snape adopts Harry' stories that I enjoy, but they have to be really good ones for me to like them.
RtB stories with the afterwards stories, though if the afterwards story is too 'happy-go-lucky', I'm not a huge fan. You can't have everything go perfectly as it isn't realistic and a good author is able to write their characters in difficult situations and if they have to, kill them.
I also enjoy time travel stories. Mostly ones that involve the next-gen going back to either the 1990s or the 1970s.

oh! Also!
Minerva, Filius, and Severus working together and being *completely* badass. There are nowhere NEAR enough of this sort of fic. Seriously. They have the potential to be truly frightening, if they combined forces. I mean, heck. Filius is a Dueling champion and Charms whiz. Minerva is second only to Dumbledore in her Transfiguration abilities. And Severus ... yeesh. The man is smart enough to give Filius a run for his money, inventive as hell (he started creating spells in fifth year, documented them in sixth, in that book), and is frighteningly good with potions, also as evidences by that book. If the three of them worked together ... yikes.

Or:
'Trust me when I say you want to deal with me, rather than Minerva. She'd be rather tempted to transfigure you into a gargoyle and Stick you to the roof of the school. Filius would use you for target practice ... and really, sweetie, it's better not to contemplate what Severus would do to you.'

Like, what if the four heads of houses made a campaign to overthrow the current Ministry and fix the Wizarding World? I'd love to see something like that!

Though, actually ... I'm writing a fic that skates rather close to that. Severus, Minerva, and Filius are joining forces to help Harry, which will eventually lead to the downfall of the Ministry. And yes, Pomona's helping. She's just a somewhat smaller part because her specialty doesn't have all that many practical applications outside of major trouble. But I could probably tweak things to have her as their front-woman fairly easily. *snicker*.

I like after the battle fics that are realistic. Ones that don't make everyone perfect (especially Hermione, Ron and Harry) and deal stuff that people might deal with after a war (PTSD, self image problems caused because of scars or something, ect.)
I also like Harry with a backbone fics.

I like friendship fics between Harry and the DA. I also like more of the tragic darker fics like hurt/comfort and angst.
I love Weasley family fics especially ones in the aftermath of the Battle of Hogwarts. I may not approve of Molly sometimes, but I love how close they are to each other. To that point, I also like next generation fics or wizarding reform fics.
I also love Sirius and Harry bonding fics.

Sometimes I like reading Ron, Ginny, Molly and Hermione bashing fics. I don't think I've ever seen a Harry/ Hermione fic where Ron and Ginny took it well. I also like the Harry/Hermione fics during the 7th book where Ron leaves. I feel bad for Ron but you can't tell me that something didn't happen.

I'm very much into Harry/Ginny stories... Which probably puts me at odds with a lot of you here.
I also like time travel stories, Harry gets away from Dursleys (rescue or otherwise!) [I'm currently writing one where Ginny and Luna rescue him from there...], Soulbond(s), Harry and/or Ginny in different houses and I can't recall what else. I'll put them down when I remember.

Time Travel in general that doesn't involve kinky pairings with old guys (cough Hermione/Tom) Weasley Family fics Cheesy Ron/Hermione romance fics  Cliches with a twist (I particularly love writing those) |

I've already mentioned in other threads the slash pairings I like to read so won't mention them again. I also like: Severus adopts, mentor's, is biological father of Harry. These stories might involve Sev rescuing Harry from the Dursley. Stories where Sirius or Remus or both rescue and/or raise Harry Redo/time travel fics but only if they start either right before Harry goes to Hogwarts or at some other point while he is at Hogwarts. Hate when he goes back to the maurader's time or Tom Riddle's time. Of course my favorite type of story is the RtB Although I don't like any of these stories that have James, Lily or young maurader's in them. Creature fics with Harry as a submissive or equal partner. Dumbledore being shown as manipulative or evil. But then again I also like Dumbledore as the good guy. Same for Ron, Molly, Ginny and Hermione. What can I say, I'm an equal opportunity basher/lover  |

I can't read Ron bashes. I can read Hermione/Other Weasleys bashing, but not Ron bashes. Mostly though, Ron gets bashed, and I do love all the other characters too, so I avoid bashes. (I cry a little whenever I see a Ron bash)

Yeah i agree with you gnovella, I'll read a Ron bashing if the story is really good but I much prefer him to be Harry's best mate who always stands with him no matter what and they are hard to find. The other character's I don't care one way or another. Also I will tolerate a story were both Ron and Hermione turn on Harry, if the story is good but it breaks my heart. I want at least one of them to stand by him so that he has at least one person who went through everything with him. I can't imagine going through everything Harry went through only to find out you'd truly been alone for it all, if that makes any sense.

Yep makes sense gnovella. Unless everything that we read about Ron was an act from the very beginning at age 11 (which what 11yr old could pull off what would essentially be a deep cover operation) then canon Ron is to rash, tactless, impulsive and incapable of not saying what is on his mind to be faking being Harry's friend.
