I think so. I'm thinking they are considering it as rape or something. I'm only telling you the backroom rumors I'm getting from fellow authors who got their stories deleted.

My impression was that this isn't really started by the staff, but by some bored jerks with a god complex, as someone here coined it so nicely. So annual clean-up doesn't make much sense, it should come from the Admins, not from some outsiders. But that's another thing that annoys me no end - that the staff allows these reporters to dictate their actions. Pathetic.
In any case, at that rate they are driving the more mature authors off, leaving only the younger ones. And I doubt they do themselves a favour with it. I know that in another fandom most of my favourite authors are beyond the 50 already. It just shows in the writing, and there aren't that many very young authors who can meet that standard. With 30 or 50 you write very different than with 13!

The groups in question are called "Critics United" and "Fanfiction Rennaissance". There was also the "purists" for the grammar and syntax.

Yeah, but belong these groups to the staff? Somehow I have my doubts ... And while there are enough stories out there that could use a bit polish for their grammar, syntax and spelling, that's not the way to go about it, either.

Nope, they are all free-lancers. As for the last remark, it's true it's not the way to go about it for grammar and syntax, but they would look at ridiculous mistakes that would seem to have a sexual connotation to be put into a story. Such as the word "pussy" when the story is clearly about a cat, or the nickname "KAT" which would be considered a misspell of the word "cat".

Very true. That was my thought too. I mean up until now the admins (at least in my opinion) haven't ever really enforced much of the rules or even their TOS for that matter. I've seen COUNTLESS stories that are nothing but SPAM (ive reported a few in the past but nothing ever happened) and they've been floating around for YEARS. Sure, I've seen the occasional deletion (though that could have always been specific authors as well I'm sure). Had they enforced their TOS and rules from the very beginning (I've seen TOS violations for years that never were really delt with. The admins just let them go, or waited till they got reported and relied on them being reported then checking things out themselves) I wouldn't be AS angry. At least then you know what you get from the beginning with them. Now it just seems like they're trying to placate the ones doing the reporting, by following through with their wishes (Even if its against TOS because i feel they never lived up to making sure the TOS was being followed).

I checked the forum from those Renaissance guys, it seems they were around since 2011. but this is the first I noticed any effect, at least on my fav stories. I wonder what else is going on. It can't be just those guys, can it?

Hmm. I don't know I did read that there were 'other groups' in their fourm. Now i don't know if they're still in effect because I read the phrase members who WERE in other 'groups'. However, I wouldn't be surprised if there were others. I guess it would depend on how many people were in that actual Renaissance group and how many of them are actively reporting and being successful in having the story being taken down.

It can't be just those guys, can it? It's probably several of those groups along with their recruits who don't show their faces in the forums but pm them all the time.

Critics united have been around for at least 2 years. I know so since they were behind the redbutton program (a computer program that automatically reported stories that didn't fit certain specifications such as certain words, spelling and other stuff like that).

Still weird that it happens now al of a sudden. Haven't noticed much change in my favs list, apart from the CR-stuf.
But deleting it out right is a bit harsh. Yourfanfiction.com seems appealing now, but those people will show up there as well. maybe not now, but eventually they will.

There are a couple of people... let's go with 'busy'... very busy by the looks of it. underxmyxumbrella had some of her stories deleted because of a part of a songfic which she had already removed ages ago...
And I hope they leave some of the M-stories alone... I like mine where it is thank-you-very-much!

No can do. They are mainly aiming for the most popular ones.

I wonder if writers who are not affected by this purge, will move as well. to go where the readers are?

It is the popular stories being hit. The group that's doing it are about 13 years old.

It is also very possible that in like a week or so, it will all die down. You'll never know. The current uproar might be encouraging them.

Oh, let them continue for another week or two - maybe FFN will finally wake up when half their users desert them! (One can hope, right?)

You think that proposed boycot will do any good. I'll probably ignore it, but I want your opinions on this

Seeing as I am not at home during that time anyway, I will most definitely boycott the site

Depends really, the Euro championship is going on. so I might be watching football. although I can watch football and read ff at the same time.
At best it would be a partial boycott for me.

I was planning on ignoring it too. If anything on my alert list is updated then I'll be reading it, otherwise I'll have a backlog to catch up with once it's over.

Same here. all the M-stuff, I got saved anyway. I don't have any songfic, or other 'questionable' favs. apart from the CR. but it seems the CR is being ignored in favor of the Ratings-issues.
