"There were two, I got his ally, but the one who attacked her ran off. That's how creatures are, survival is most important to them," said Chris as he shut the door. "Don't think about running off to avenge her, you're just one man. You can help her by supporting the ministry and doing your job. She's staying here tonight, we can't move her from an unfamiliar surrounding, we don't want to strain her. If you'd like, I can have a cot brought to you and you can sleep outside her room."

I accepted my meal with a smile, then froze as Alice brushed her hair back. There was a purple bruise that was distinctly in the shape of a handprint. Concern flooded me like lava in a valcano, and it only bubbled and grew as Alice spoke quietly saying, "Yes he did. He drove me home, still being a gentleman."
Alarm bells were ringing, flare guns were being shot off and big neon warning signs were flashing in my head. 'Maxwell did something to her I know it,' I thought savagely, my hands shaking minisculely. 'I should demand to know what.' But, looking at Alice's face made me calm down and say to myself, 'If she wanted me to know, she would have told me, but I will keep my eye on her."
Taking a bite of my Kung Pao Shrimp, I gave her a small smile, then swallowed and said, "Sounds like you had a nice," here I almost lost my composure, "evening with Mr. Rosebane. I am glad that you two get along so well."

Eleazar nodded, he didn't think he could deal with leaving Rosemarie now. He reluctantly agreed with Chris privately about his not hunting down that bastard that did this to Rosemarie, and he felt a horrible happiness that the Unicorn's ally had been finished off at least. One thing was for sure, next time he saw a Unicorn (As he was fairly certain that they would attack again) It would be his target.

Chris saw Eleazar's nod, and was privately glad he'd already instructed an Auror to bring up a cot for the man. He turned to face Eleazar, once again cursing himself for being such a people person.
"Listen here Bellard," he said, "I swear to you, I will find your sister a cure for this. I owe her that much."
Alice noticed Violet's unease, and wondered what was wrong. Perhaps her food was too strong, and her stomach was uneasy. Asian food did that to her if it was too spicy.
"Yes, we did," said Alice with a smile, "And I'm glad to be having a nice lunch with you! I'm surprised at how well we get along, since we're both so different. Is your stomach alright? You seem a bit uneasy, is it the food?"

Looking up at Chris, Eleazar nodded again, "Thank you sir, That's more then I could ask you for." Then he shifted his weight to his other foot, hesitating before continuing, "And thank you for making sure she got out of there. If she had been left..." He trailed off, not wanting to finish.

"Relax Bellard," said Chris, "She's a good kid. And a damn good Auror. She'll get through this, grow up, start a family or whatever the hell, and you both won't even remember my involvement. You want to be grateful, send me a good bottle of Firewhiskey. Now get some rest, you look like hell, and your sister needs you more than ever, not me. Anybody would have gotten her to safety, it'll take her brother to help her feel safe again."
With that, Chris gave Eleazar an awkward pat on the shoulder.

I felt slightly stunned. Alice was not only saying that it was nice to have lunch with me, but she was concerned about me even though she was the one with a massive bruise on her neck! Resisting the urge to glance at said bruise again, for it was still showing somewhat through her hair, I replied, "Oh no the food is just fine, as is my stomach, my back is just a bit sore from huching over a desk all night to get the article done. And I really enjoy spending time with you! Sometimes the people who are the most different at first, end up being the ones who happen to get along the best. Or at least it is that way with my past experiences." I grinned at her, hoping that I had set her mind at ease, although still worried myself.

Eleazar was slightly stunned. He'd never really seen Christopher try and comfort anyone, so it was definitely a first, If an awkward first. He stood there untill someone brought up that cot, he thanked them and proceeded to lie down. As he fell asleep, one of his last thoughts were noting to give Chris a bottle of firewhiskey, come christmas.

"I know! It's always so funny when that happens," said Alice with a smile. "I strain my back all the time like that. Cut up some dandelion root and mix it with cinnamon. If you make it into a fine powder and have it mixed with water or milk, it helps ease your muscles and relax them. I take a cup every week so that I don't strain myself. We should have lunch together more often, and you should meet Eleazar! I know he'd love to meet you too! He's a great friend."
As Alice said this, her mind was whirling with plans to introduce the two. She wanted to spend more time with the both of them, and if they were all friends it would be so much fun!

I grinned even wider as Alice spoke, steadily eating my way through my meal. She was so kind hearted and bubbly that it was endearing. At her mention of her wanting to introduce me to Eleazer, I glanced at my notes and then looked bsck at her nodding. I had wanted to meet him anyway, and what better oppotunity would I get.
"I will make sure to make myself some of that tonight, though I will have to stop in Diagon Alley to pick up some danelion roots. I would love to meet Eleazer myself! He sounds like an interesting person. Maybe all three of us could get together and have lunch tomorrow. I could use our time together then for my article, and since you have the week off, it seems like as good an opportunity as any."

"I can't wait to read what you come up with!" said Alice cheerfully. "I hope Eleazar's okay, he was involved in the attack today, you see. I'll have to find him and bring him to lunch, but we should definitely do something together. Maybe the day after tomorrow. He's probably busy with the attack aftermath, and I have some errands I need to run. Tell you what, I'll send you an Owl and we can do lunch sometime this week."

I had completely forgotten about the attack during the meal and conversation with Alice. The thought of it brought sudders down my spine, but I shrugged them off. The waitress came and dropped off the bill, and I left the appropriate amount of muggle money on the table as I replied, "Sounds good, I'm free anytime. Shall I escort you back to the Ministry then? Or do you have oer plans?"

"I should head home, my house mate and I made plans to go shopping, and I have some work to catch up on. We must do this again. I'll drag Eleazar for lunch as soon as I can," said Alice wistfully.
She enjoyed Violet's company, but she'd promised Cassalina they'd go shopping, and she desperately needed to get started on some kind of health regimen for Maxwell. She had to prove she was worth hiring of course!

"Okay," I said, once again finding myself grinning because of Alice's enthusiasm. "I will hopefully see you soon then!" I exited the restraunt, and waited until Alice was out of sight before looking both ways to make sure no one was watching, then apparating to Diagon Alley to pick up some supplies.

Marigold, feeling rather giddy, started to roam the Ministry, searching for Maxwell. She would have used a Point Me, but didn't want to waste her remaining stamina. Along the way, she came across another auror. Now what was his name? Ballix? Batard? Ballard? Eh, close enough. Laughing to herself, she walked up to him.
"We had a good run today, wouldn't you agree?" she said, grinning. "It was chaos out there, but we're one step closer! Did you hear about my battle with that centaur?"

Eleazar had been sitting on the cot, not quite able to stay asleep for more then a few minutes. He looked up at the women. A few hours ago, he would have agreed and asked for the story behind the centaur, but now he was quite irritated. He didn't want to hear of how fun it was, of how she defeated a centaur. Rather, he wanted to stay quiet and wait for Rosemarie to wake up and be herself again. For her to be healed, just like that.
It took quite a bit of self restrain to keep from snapping at the women, thought instead he managed to give a tight response, "I'm afraid not. I didn't really hang around to hear stories of the battle."

Eleazar had to close his eyes and take a deep breath to not hex her. "I am not interested in what happened on the battlefield today. Goody for us that we triumphed, and I applaud you for doing you part, but as I said I am not interested right now."

Marigold frowned. "Oh come on! I'm sure you have a heroic tale or two. Don't you want to share it?"

"No, All I did was set trees on fire. It's not anything magnificently heroic." Eleazar was trying to end the conversation, but she did not seem to take the hint and he was getting endlessly frustrated.

Marigold shrugged. "Fine, be that way. I'm going to go celebrate with everyone else!" She scoffed at Ballard and walked off in what she viewed as a dignified way. She wasn't going to let his bad temper stop her from enjoying herself. Maybe after finding Maxwell, she'd go to a bar and have a few drinks with the guys.

Eleazar couldn't help giving off a long, relieved sigh as the woman left. Shaking his head to forget about her, he lay back down, hoping to get a better sleep.

Cassalina and Octavius spent the better part of an hour trying to comfort Maxwell, but to no avail. The man was completely inconsolable, and moved away whenever Cassalina tried to hug him. Instead, they kept assuring him that Brayden was in a much better place, and that he had died with honor. It didn't help that Cassalina burst out crying twice, sobbing as though she'd lost a relative of her own.
Then again, the Yaxleys and the Rosebanes had been rather close for a long time. It was only natural to feel that way. As it turned out, Octavius was able to better comfort his sister than his surrogate brother. He sighed tiredly, as he took Cassalina into his arms once more.
"Everything will be alright, Cassie. You'll see."
Out of the corner of his eye, Octavius saw Maxwell flinch, and felt as though he were going to be sick. Maxwell clearly blamed himself. They stayed in that uncomfortable room for quite sometime, mourning the loss of a young man who had died much too soon.
Eventually, they did have to leave - there was Alice to consider, after all. Maxwell didn't say anything, but did move to join them when it was time to go. Side by side, they walked, with Maxwell in the middle. They would support him as he supported them when things got rough. That was what family was for, after all.

Veronica had left her office to head home. As she walked along the hall, her heels clicking, she found Cassalina, Octavius, and Maxwell. Instead of looking happy, they looked mournful. What was going on?
"Cassie!" she called out, running to joing them, "What happened?"

Cassalina took a shuddering breath, trying to stave off yet another wave of tears. She'd done enough crying in the office, after all. She tried to speak, but she couldn't answer. Surprisingly enough, it was Maxwell who spoke. "He's dead." came his soft, barely audible whisper. "My son.." He had this oddly broken, half-dead voice, all the joy and light it held diminished. Octavius had an expression of both pity and understanding on his face, and grief, as well. Brayden had been like a nephew to them, and the loss was impossible to imagine.

Veronica gasped. She felt his words tug on the corner of her heart where her precious Dimitry rested. She didn't know what to say as she looked at the heart-broken group. She looked at them and made up her mind.
"Let's go," said Veronica with an air of determination, "There's no reason for any of you to be here, whose house shall we head to?"

"I'd like it if we could go to mine." Maxwell said, without his usual air of formality. It seemed like too much effort to maintain at a time like this. "There won't be enough room for all of us at your place, Cassalina." Cassalina nodded her understanding. "But first, we need to find Alice and let her know what is happening. We can't just leave her alone."
"I'll look for her." Cassalina volunteered, her voice shaky. "I'm in charge of protecting her, after all."

Veronica nodded at the plan. She turned to Octavius and Maxwell with a firm look on her face.
"It's time to go, Cassie will catch up. You two are far too prominent not to be caught by some idiot," she said firmly, escorting the two men away.

((Ending their Ministry involvement here))
Octavius was thankful that Veronica was on their side. She always seemed to know best in these times of crisis. It was thanks to her that they'd been able to pull through their struggles and move forward - while keeping a grand vision of the future intact. He led a semi-lost Maxwell, who was still reeling from shock and what appeared to be self-blame. It was a scary thing to behold - the last time this had happened, it had been Mr. and Mrs. Rosebane that had died.

Lacey Florence had just gotten done filing some paper work, and now she was getting some coffee in the hallway. She looked around, her brown eyes trying to find something or someone, anything really. The paperwork was rather dull, and Lacey wished that she had been able to join the battle- What she would give to murder a few monsters herself...
