"Olivia is a possibility we need to rule out," nodded Veronica. "What sort of job has he employed her in? That's been bothering me. She isn't qualified for any kind of job beyond her NEWT studies and clerical duties. Do you think Marigold is right in watching her? Speak now or forever hold your peace."

Octavius nodded. "She is the only one who can do this. Marigold is one of the best aurors the Minstry has to offer, and is the only one I've seen that can keep her magical energy completely hidden from him." He looked to Marigold. "Find out what she is up to, and stop anyone outside of our group from taking advantage of her. Do you think you can do that?"
Marigold gave him a steely, determined gaze. "I don't think it. I know I can. I won't let either of you down." Octavius was impressed that she seemed so mature, for once. Usually, she would have shown childish delight at being important to a plan. She wasn't a bad girl, but knew that if it wasn't for her own connections, Maxwell would have never let her in.

Eleazar had just finished filing the report on the house had and Marigold had visited. Now, he wanted to go check on Rosemarie again. It wasn't rational, but he hoped that she would wake up and she'd be all better. Eleazar hadn't told his parents about their baby girl ye, and he hoped he wouldn't have too,
So putting away the report, he stood up and went to Rosemarie's room. But he didn't go inside, because as he turned into the hallway- her door creaked open.
---
Rosemarie's eyes snapped open. They're plotting against you... The voice warned her, telling her of their betrayal. She couldn't trust anyone- they would only harm her. The voice was Rosemarie's only friend. Slowly, Rosemarie sat up, analyzing the room she was in. It was small and only had a bed in it and a bedside table.
They're going to come, they'll hurt you. You have to run! Obeying instantly, Rosemarie looked for her wand, and found it quickly. She held it in front of her as she went to the door, and slowly opened it.
Suddenly, There was someone in front of her. Rosemarie vaguely felt like she knew them- they were familiar. The man put his hands up in a surrender, he spoke in a calming voice... He was walking toward her. He's going to hurt you! Rosemarie let out a screech- the man was blocking her path!
"Diffindo!" Rosemarie shouted as she ran at the man- he had to jump aside to avoid the spell, and Rosemarie was able to slip by him. He didn't give chase right away, he walked slowly with his hands still up. Rosemarie didn't understand- he was going to hurt her! She had to run!
Rosemarie turned out of the hallway, and opened a door. Suddenly, she was in a much larger hall way- there was an elevator over there and stairs there. Rosemarie didn't know where to go, she ran blindly toward the stairs, trying to get away as she sent a "Incendio!" behind her, to try and stop the man.

"She's naive, Marigold. If you approach her, she'd tell Maxwell. She can't know either. And I suggest investigating her friend circle. We can get leads from there. What I really want to know is that damn job he gave her!" exclaimedd Veronica.

Chris stopped working when he heard a panic hub-bub around him. Immediately he stood up to see a crazed Rosemarie running along as her brother and several Aurors chased her. Irritated, he did the easiest thing he could. He stunned her.
"Who the hell returned her wand?" he yelled angrily. "Move it immediately!"
With that, he turned to Eleazar. A sense of guilt stabbed at him. What if she'd been Ellen?

"Right. I'll do what I can to find out." Marigold said coolly. "I won't let either of them know what I am up to." she balled her fists. "Now I have something to tell both of you. A family of three was murdered by a goblin earlier this morning."

"They're making a move already? Goblins generally wait to attack! We'll need to publicize it as a first move, not a retaliation, what were the details?" asked Veronica.

Rosemarie was on hyper-senses, adrenaline and fear coursing through her. People kept trying to hurt her! They were sending spells at her from every direction, and Rosemarie was having a hard time keeping them all away. Thankfully, she managed to get out of the way, and a shield charm protected her from two others. Rosemarie didn't know what to do, she'd tried to apparate but it wasn't working- then she realized she must be in the Ministry... The Ministry was going to hurt her! Rosemarie was unable to send off any spells, she was too busy dodging and shielding. Then, the Man shouted-
"Stop attacking her! Let her calm down!" Stop attacking? Where they going to trick her? They lie! the voice warned, and Rosemarie kept up her wand, ready to shield at a moments noticed.
---
Eleazar called for everyone to stop- Rosemarie seemed overwhelmed, and terrified. He hadn't fired a single spell, he couldn't turn his wand on his little sister that he promised to protect since she was born. Seeing that Chris had arrived, Eleazar called back over the noise,
"Who took her wand away in the first place?"

Shuddering at the memory of it, Marigold told them everything she'd seen that morning. "The only thing in our favor is that the goblin in question made a banner with the words 'The War Has Begun' on it. Not only was their act of cruelty extremely barbaric, but the message itself pins more blame on them than it does the ones who attacked the forest."
"We could twist the truth a bit." Octavius said grimly. "Have Garrison explain that the attack on the forest was in retaliation to a threat that something like this would happen. If anyone is good at blowing enough hot air to distract the public, it's him."

Chris stared at the terrified girl for a few minutes. She was small, her blonde hair resembling Ellen's. They'd have been year-mates in Hogwarts if Ellen hadn't been taken away from him. He wanted to leave her there, never see her face again. He hated her for resembling Ellen and pointing out his own failures.
"Let's bring her back to the room, keep the wand on you, this is after all an office area," said Chris monotonously to Eleazar. "And I instructed her wand to be taken away to avoid this kind of attack."
Veronica grimaced at giving Garrison any kind of job. The old lech would be delighted at his own importance and ignore the bigger picture. She considered the options. Octavius was right. Garrison was the only one charming enough to handle the press. Maxwell was more or less incapable at the moment.
"Should I tell him what to do?" asked Veronica grimly.

"That would be best." Octavius agreed, hating the idea just as much as she did. "Can you put the fear into him? I know he'll get greedy otherwise."

"Carrot and stick method, heavy on the stick," said Veronica dryly. "This conversation is over, then, I'm presuming?"

"Prettymuch. We all have to get back to our regular jobs at some point." Octavius said, going back through the fireplace. "See you at Ivory House, ladies."
"So that's where you guys went?" Marigold asked, still a little miffed.
"Yep. We'll be there tonight, too."
Marigold sighed. "Of course. Well, I'll be off, too. Mr. McKoy is going to be annoyed at me for not visiting him in person."
And with that, they both left Veronica to her thoughts.

Once they left, Veronica wondered if she was doing the right thing. If only her own curiosity wasn't driving her bananas. The memory of Maxwell losing control was so fresh in her mind. She got up and began pacing as she thought. Finally she gave up on the job, and headed to find some one else. She made her way to Garrison's office. Time to deal with a buffoon.

"Well, if you hadn't noticed," Eleazar replied back irritably, "We can't 'bring her back to the room'. She'd bloody terrified, and not about to come with us." Privately, he was grumbling about incompetent Aurors not taking Rosemarie's wand....
---
Rosemarie was getting noticeably more and more terrified, she could feel her magic beginning to panic. Her magical core was in pandemonium, it had to protect Rosemarie. They were going to her her! The shield charm that Rosemarie had up was crackling, lightning-like figures lighting up as her magic freaked out. Several vases and cups that held flowers burst into little fragments around the hall.

Fuck! She was losing control. Her mind was going haywire, and she needed to be calmed down!
"Move!" he yelled at Eleazar, shoving the boy backwards. "Legilimens!"
He broke into Rosemarie's erratic mind easily with Legilimency. He began shifting, trying to find the source of the problem, trying to find something soothing to calm her.

Eleazar didn't make a big quarrel about being shoved, in fact he took the liberty of moving further away from Chris, though closer to Rosemarie. He stared- How much pain was she in? How terrified could she be?
---
They're coming! They're going to hurt you, Run before they can hurt you! Rosemarie wanted to run, but where could she? She needed to listen to the voice, the voice was all that she could hear- it told her of the lies. It was going to help her, but Rosemarie couldn't run!
Her magic was getting more and more sparky, the turmoil that was Rosemarie's mind confused and unable to give commands to control the magic. The shield fell down, and instead became much like firecrackers, popping and lashing out. A few aurors had to jump out of the way to avoid being slashed.

Chris sifted through Rosemarie's mind, until he found an alien voice. It was overpowering, trying to tell her she was a target. It resembled the unicorn's own ability. He'd manifested in her!
Chris forced the images of Rosemarie and Eleazar as children at the voice, him protecting her from a dog. He forced the memories of Rosemarie being offered help from her fellow Aurors. He forced the image of her being happy in the forefront.

The voice didn't like the pictures. Lies! Lies! They're tricking you, They'll trap you and hurt you! Rosemarie wasn't sure. She felt afraid of the people, the would hurt here- the voice said so. But the images show the people as good- they had helped Rosemarie. She didn't know anymore. Trying to escape from both the voice and the images, Rosemarie retreated into a corner of her mind, where she focused on her magic. The firecrackers began to stop, became less prominent. She was able to once again reconstruct the shield, which she hid behind, not wanting to be open for them to attack... She didn't know, were they good, or was it all lies? Lies! The voice insisted.
---
Eleazar blinked in surprise, Rosemarie's magical outburst seemed to calm- though she herself was still terrified and... Confused? He looked over at Chris, who seemed to be somewhere else. Whatever Christopher was doing, it was helping.

Chris could sense her retreating. She was building up a large shield in her mind. He was surprised and pleased to see that her shield was cutting off the other voice as well.
"Rosemarie," he tried to communicate, "Stay in that shield, don't let the voice in."

Rosemarie was able to look up at Christopher. Christopher? It wasn't a nameless face anymore- it was Chris, Rosemarie's boss. She shook her head furiously, raising her hands to her head as she tried to shake away the confusion. The voice was pounding at the walls of her shield, warning her and trying to protect her from harm. But the images wanted to protect her from the voice... Rosemarie wanted them both gone. They were hurting, she didn't know who to listen to.
Outside of her mind, the physical shield disappeared as Rosemarie focused on her mental one, willing the voice and images to go away.
---
Voice? Eleazar wanted to ask, but he felt as if he shouldn't interfere... He'd ask Chris later what he meant by the Voice.

Chris could feel her shield getting stronger. Was she building up some kind of Occlumency skill? Was it helping. He needed to be careful. He began to retreat slowly, still waving the images in front of her.
"Keep it out Rosemarie, he's only hurting you, don't let him in," said Chris loudly and calmly at her, as though it was the most logical suggestion.

Rosemarie looked away from Chris, and saw another face. It was the other one from the images... Eleazar. It was Rosemarie's brother. Would her brother hurt her? The voice said he would, but the images said he wouldn't. Rosemarie didn't know- Go away! she screeched at the voice and pictures. They were clouding her thoughts, confusing the path she should take.
---
Eleazar felt angry- He? Someone was doing this to his sister? Well then... He'd have to hunt down the little bastard and make him stop hurting his baby sister. All he wanted to do was to go up to Rosemarie and give her a hug, and then go murder the Unicorn. But he couldn't- he couldn't now, not even hug his own sister.

Chris was certain the images were planted in her mind's forefront now. The voice was losing power, and so was Chris as she forced him out. Finally he broke the contact of the spell, and looked around the office. While slightly messy, not much power was lost.
"Rosemarie, where do you want to go? Don't ask the voice, where do you feel safe?" he asked her, his voice still calm and logical to keep her from losing control again.

Veronica had stormed her way past Garrison's secretary. She was now outside his office. She popped open the first three buttons on her robe. This time, Garrison would learn what was right and what was wrong. He'd know that rules were meant to be followed, whether he liked it or not.
"Garrison, it's me," she trilled out as she banged on his door.

She sauntered over confidently and took a seat on Garrison's desk.

Garrison shrugged. "Hey, I had no choice, Veronica. The press wanted an answer, so I had to give them one. Besides, all I did was uplift their cause. What's so bad about that." As always, he stared subtly at her chest, which never seemed to disappoint. What he wouldn't give to see what she looked like without her clothes!

"Do you ever for once think? What if someone saw it as offensive. Garrison, that entire thing was bull-shit and you didn't credit any of the people involved. That could upset them, and we don't need upset people, now do we?" she asked, leaning over and giving him a better view of her chest. Let him stare for now, she'd make him pay in a few minutes anyways.

He leered a little bit, enjoying the better view of her...frontal assets. "Oh come now, Veronica. What was so bad about it? I said they were champions for the cause - how much more honor could I have given them than that?" Now if only she'd take off her blouse and give him an even better view... "I gave the press what they wanted, and the public some reassurance that what we're doing is right."
