"I'm sure she is," Replied Kei. "But, I mean, whats her name? How old is she?"
---
Had he been human, Jei would have raised an eyebrow in both amusement and confusion. "Cry? I'm not about to cry." Sure, his thoughts were a little upsetting- but Jei had stopped crying long ago. After all, he'd always had to be strong in order to help Xie... She'd always been so sensitive. Jei shook the thought away quickly,
"Thanks though. I'm just still... adjusting to some things."

"Her name's Kohl, and she's only a year and a half. She hasn't shown any sign of powers, but she's fast," said Argon with a grimace as he remembered chasing her down.
"Oh, good. If it helps, crying can adjust things. Just don't do it in front of me, then I'll start crying too, and I don't like to cry. Besides, you're a boy and you're supposed to be strong!" said Kohl, stumbling up.

Kei would have smiled, but she merely twitched and ear. This girl sounded all right, if troubled. "All right then. I guess I'll introduce her to the herd later today."
---
Jei moved forward awkwardly, ready to help the girl if she showed signs of falling again. "I'll keep that in mind." Then he reared up a few inches and pawed the ground in a playful way, "So, Are you staying here?"

"You don't know how grateful I am Kei. I swear you won't regret this," said Argon.
"If I can't help it," muttered Kohl, finally standing up. "And I'm Kohl, who are you?"

Being a werewolf was tough, not everyone accepted you but with my family connections I was slightly better off than any other wolf. I'm a Malfoy that has a Weasley Great Grandfather and Grandmother, a Grandmother that married a Malfoy, thus giving me the connection of the Potters aswell. Great Uncle Harry was married to Great Grandad Ron's Sister. Sounds complicated doesn't it? I assure you that it's not though.
I've heard all the stories from my parents on the previous War with Voldemort and about the difficulties and stigma that is associated with Werewolfs and I guess if I wasn't a Malfoy life wouldn't be good for me, then again there's a new War now. One against magical creatures and I know who's behind it, my Godfather by marraige, Maxwell Rosebane. Merlin I wish I could go back in time and warn my parents not to let him be my Godfather, but then that would mean not having my Godmother and I get along brilliantly with her, you'd think that I would be warning them about the War or my being a Werewolf wouldn't you?
I would but it feels like fate that it's meant to happen whereas he is a complete tosser. He started to hate me the moment he knew what I had become and he tried to kill me as a child. I'm not supposed to remember but who can forget something like that? Even if they have been Obliviated. That's why I'm here in this forest now. I've been tracking everything that he's been doing and I would have been here to help the creatures fight the wizards but I was detained that day by an unforseen force and so I've decided to stick around for now. Hide and collect any information that I need before I come forwards, besides they'll only kill me when they find out that he is my Godfather.

"I'm sure I won't." Agreed Kei before turning toward where they had come, "Shall we return?"
---
Privately, Jei hopes she stayed. She seemed nice and he'd like a new friend. "I'm Jei." e replied swiftly.

As the two foals returned to where they'd been left, Kohl found herself eying Jei curiously.
"So, what do you do around here?" she asked.

Jei shrugged, "Normally I just mess around with the other foals of the herd. They're pretty nice." He hesitated, glancing round before continuing, "Though, recently, the fighting has become a lot more real. You just missed the battle that took place yesterday... The humans seem to be trying to wipe out Magical Creatures."

"Maybe Argon hopes I get taken out too," muttered an angry Kohl. "Are things that serious? You just need to see the brighter side! It can't be all that bad, is it?"
At the last part, Kohl looked nervous. She didn't want to get caught up in war, but she'd fight for her friends, if she ever made any here. Who'd want to befriend the orphan girl?

"I've only been in one battle so far and..." He struggled to find the right words, the pain of the memory flashing through his eyes, "I was stupid, and it didn't turn out very well. But it's not too bad... I mean, a bunch of the other creatures here helped out and we gave the humans a good amount of injuries to think about. There's this phoenix who is the leader- she's given protection to the whole forest or something. And my Mum is the leader of the Unicorn herd, so she had does quite a bit of the head stuff for the herd in this fight..." Jei figured he was rambling now, so he quickly ended by saying, "But you don't have to fight. Anyone who doesn't want to is staying in this one meadow that only Unicorns can enter."

She looked at him, wondering what he was struggling with.
"Everyone makes stupid mistakes, some lose more than others," she said, remembering her own costly mistake. "And who says I won't fight? If I have something to lose, I have to fight to protect it, right?"
As they reached the clearing, Argon looked at Kohl one last time.
"Good luck," he said, though whether to her or Kei, she wasn't sure. And with that, he trotted off, and broke into a run.

It had been a few days since Acidious had came to her with the news about Calla and now Lexie was feeling ill just as she had told Harrigan she would be when she healed him. Although she didn't imagine that it would be this bad, constant sickness and stomach aches plaged her and she was positive that her stomach was growing but that could have meant anything. Hell she was also craving a lot of burgers but considering that Harrigan talked of nothing but burgers it might have just meant that she was hungry from all the talk about food.
It didn't have to mean anything, right?

Jei would have replied, but as they were reaching the clearing once more, he merely said, "Right." He knew he had quite a bit to fight for at this point.
As Kei watched Argon leave, she felt a sting of sympathy for Kohl. She had just been abandoned by her herd. Kei didn't even know how she would have taken such a thing... Internally pushing that out of her mind, Kei turned to the young filly and tried to give her a warm, welcoming smile using her eyes.
"Well, Kohl, It's a pleasure to meet you and welcome you into this forest. I'm sure you'll love the herd, and they'll be most welcoming."

Kohl eyed the boy skeptically. He didn't seem like much fun.
"Alright. Whatever Argon told you was a lie. He thinks all good girls should behave quietly and meekly and grow up to be mothers as soon as they can," she said quickly with a scowl.

"Well don't you worry," Kei continued, a bit surprised... Argon had mentioned that Kohl could provide foals for the herd- Was that all he thought of Mares? "We don't meddle in that sexist bit. After all, I am pretty much Herd leader. If we did, My father would have made sure he had a foal at some point, but he was fine with just one filly."

Eolande was sitting on the forest floor, pressed up against a large rock and huddling in a small ball. Her eyes were shut tight as she shivered and shivered. The dryad hadn't turned back to her tree form since she ran from the fire- she was scared that the fire would return... That she would be stuck in the flames. Where was Mamma? Eolande hadn't seen her mother since the fire had happened- Mamma had told Eolande to run. Mamma had been in tree form, having not changed from the nights rest yet.
Eolande hadn't found it in herself to change back to rest properly- she'd had to take a nap in human form. Where was Mamma? Though she wanted to keep her eyes closed tight, she kept them wide open, waiting for Mamma to come and get her.
Where was the fire now? She didn't know and she thought it was everywhere- nowhere and everywhere. It was going to get her if she changed, and it would going to burn her. Was Mamma fighting the fire? When was she coming back? Eolande didn't know- so she started to cry again, tears that glinted green and pink gliding down her cheek.

Lucinda didn't get a response. Instead, she looked to see Rhea curled up on a bed of leaves, fast asleep. Crooning softly at the sight, she flew out of the cave and found that it had gotten a bit later. From what she could tell, it was now noon - or close to it. She contemplated her options; finding Fawkes, doing more rounds on the forest, or checking up on Kampfa. Maybe making funeral preparations would be best...
But none of those things happened. Instead, Lucinda felt a gentle tug of her vow, which told her that someone was emotionally in need of help. Whomever it was, they were afraid and alone. Seeing as this wasn't a major threat, she followed the call of her vow willingly. She flew for quite some time, trilling and humming softly.

Eolande sat there for longer then she could know. Time went by as she just retreated into her own head- her eyes only vaguely taking in the very small changes of the environment as she sat there. The dark recesses of her mind were safer, and they allowed time to pass quickly, as if she was in a stupor, mulling only over the thoughts of Where's Mamma? and Where's the fire?.
Then, through the very little amount of visuals that really registered in her mind, she saw what seemed to be fire. A great fire that was flying through the air. Instantly, Eolande was snatched from her safe spot and she whimpered as she pressed as close to the boulder as she could, eyes snapping closed as she wrapped her small arms around herself.

The closer Lucinda got, the less gently her vow tugged at her. The creature was more than just sad and a little scared now - they were truly afraid. The fear was sickening, and Lucinda could feel her heart break. Had there been some survivor of the war that had been overlooked? At last, the vow stopped tugging her, meaning that she was in the area she was needed. But she couldn't see anyone.
Now this isn't right she thought, perplexed. Why can't I see anything? Feeling tired from her earlier ordeal, Lucinda landed on the ground. As she was going down, it was then that she noticed a tiny little foot poking out from behind a nearby bolder. Not wanting to frighten the creature, Lucinda resisted the urge to speak directly to it. Instead, she assumed the most non-threatening position possible, and used her phoenix song.
She sang of safety and reassurance that no harm would come.

The fire left the sky. Eolande couldn't see the flame anymore- Where was it now? Was it with Mamma? The little girl felt a sudden hope- Maybe it could lead her to Mamma! She was about to get up, when she heard the song. It felt safe and calm, Eolande felt herself thinking that Mamma was right around the corner. She'd always felt safe like that when Mamma was there, or when Mamma held her in her arms. Eolande remembered when she was still a little baby, how she a flower on Mamma's tree in her tree form. She'd felt safe as a small flower- Petals keeping her warm.
Was she a flower now? Eolande had to look at herself and touch her own hand to know she was not a flower again. She felt sure that Mamma was right around the boulder, That's why she felt safe! Happily, she jumped up and quickly turned the bend, a smile across her face as she greeted loudly,
"Mamm-!" Her call was cut off abruptly as she saw the source of the calm. One the ground was the fire. The ground was on fire- there was a flaming bird! Eolande's smile was wiped away and her face showed terror, eyes wide and scared. She took a half step back and fell to the ground, whimpering in shock. She felt like she should scream, but the scream didn't come. All she could manage was the whimpers. The Fire's here! The birds going to take me away! Where is Mamma?
The song was still there, but Eolande felt no calm- the safety was gone.

If Lucinda had been concerned before, now she was very worried. Instead of calming the poor young creature - which she now could identify as a dryad - she had only made things worse. The poor youngling looked ready to die of fright at any second.
Trilling lowly, she lowered her head and got as low to the ground as possible, a submissive position. Going to her would only make things worse, and she didn't dare risk flashing her away. "I won't hurt you." she said, even more gently than when she'd been singing. "All I want is to help."

At first, Eolande didn't even register that the fire had laid down- the bird was on the ground lower then her. She couldn't understand anything except that the fire was coming for her too now. Mamma couldn't help her right now- Where was Mamma? Why wasn't she helping her? The image of the fire seemed to replicate, filling her dark pink eyes. It was everywhere! She was on fire, running as it licked at the hem of her dress, trying to eat her. Fire! Fire! Fire! Wheres the water? Why is it burning?
Only when the bird spoke, did the long string of questions and fear break. Eolande blinked, the flames returned to the ground, they stopped chasing her. But it was still there. Why was it there? Was it going to take her away, Was it taking her away from Mamma? Mamma! Don't let it take me!
"Fire," She managed to say, staring at the fire as she spoke in a quiet tone, breaking on every syllable. "Fire... Fire..." Her voice was even quieter, mumbling the word over and over.... It was a fire. It was a bird. The bird was on fire. "Birdy's going to steal me..." In her mind, she was screaming. Outside, it was a mortified whisper.

Lucinda waited patiently, and listened to the dryad talk - such a heartbreaking tone for one so young. She couldn't have been older than six or seven by normal standards. The mutterings of fire weren't too hard to figure out. Lucinda's coloring did have the color of warmth and flames. But what was this about a birdy stealing her? Whatever it was, that seemed to be one of her biggest concerns. Poor youngling. "I will not burn you." she said slowly and softly. "I will not steal you, nor will I move. Please, let me help you."

Burn! Burn! Eolande burned! Every bit of skin, blistering and hurting. None of it was spared- she was being burned! The girl jerked a bit back at the word- she needed to get away from the burning!
The feeling of burning faded instantly though, and was replaced by another feeling... Eolande was safe and tired, she and Mamma had just been strolling, looking at constellations, as was norm at that point. Mamma held little Eolande in her arms. Mamma closed her eyes and grew into a beautiful tree with pretty pink flowers. Eolande was no longer a flower though, now Mamma had a hole in her, where little Eolande curled up a slept. Eolande was hidden, her body turning to match her Mamma's skin- harder to see. She closed her eyes... Stars danced in her mind! They were dancing and singing! Then, her eyes were open. She was in the talons of an eagle, who wanted her as prey. Mamma! Mamma! Help me! Birdy's going to steal me!
Mamma moved and grew out of the topmost branch, her brown form attacked to the tree by her feet as she reached out, hissing at the bird and pulling Eolande away. The little girl got a cut on her face from the talons, but it healed in a week. She turned and grasped her Mamma's woody fingers as Mamma pulled her in, about to place her in her hole safely once again. Above was a bird- The star bird was watching, leering down, waiting for another chance to steal Eolande away.....
Bird! The bird was here! And Eolande was here, not there in her Mamma's hole. Eolande was not safely sleeping, she was here with the bird....
Help? The bird wanted to help? Mamma! Mamma! Help! Could the Bird be Mamma? No... Mamma wasn't a bird. Mamma held Eolande and Eolande felt safe, Birds did not hold Eolande, they did not make Eolande feel safe. Mamma wasn't a bird. Could Birdy find Mamma? Find the help?
"Mamma.... Can you find the help? Mamma helps."

Black eyes. There was black- no fire! Black like the hole, the safe hole. Could the Black one leave her with Mamma? Give her back, not take her away? But the Black was surrounded by Fire! Eolande couldn't get around the Fire! It was everywhere! How does Eolande get through? She was already burned... Burns everywhere! There was no more room for more burns! She couldn't take another burn!
The bridge! There's a bridge over the fire! Eolande needs to fix the bridge to get over to Mamma. She needs to help the bird make the bridge... Eolande can't be flown, she needs the bridge.
"The fire burned," Eolande answered, building the bridge, "Mamma fought back the fire." Eolande blinked, tears showing in her eyes, "Mamma will help! Where's Mamma? Mamma said to run. She can't find me."

The child's description was garbled at best, but Lucinda took a few moments to piece it together. From what I can tell, they - the mother and child - were both among the trees that were burned. The mother told her to get away, but couldn't escape herself. Lucinda felt her insides go cold with dread. But if that's the case, she either hasn't been found, or died. I'll have to speak with the others and see if they've come across a dryad - body or otherwise. Maybe I should ask Rhea first? She saw most of the injured last night. Heart heavy, she forced herself to regard the child calmly.
"We'll have to ask a friend of mine about her first. Please come with me?" Lucinda told her, keeping her gaze steady. "If you don't want to fly, I'll walk beside you."
