Jei was fairly far away. He had spent a good part of the day after the fight running aimlessly, just wanting to get away. Then, he had found he was near the moss covered light tree. On a whim, Jei decided to go there. With the night's darkness, he wanted to go where there was light, even if it was not as light as it would have been on a full moon.
When he got there, he had lain next to the log, closed his eyes and tried to forget. Forget what had happened- everything.
Then, Kei (After a good deal of running) got closer. She slowed down as they neared the clearing with the fallen tree in it. Glancing back at her companions, she took a deep breath and entered the clearing.
"Jei?" She called nervously, and the boy raised his head and looked up.

Harrigan breathed a sigh of relief. The boy was alright. If only the same could be said for poor Xie.
Yew ran wildly in the forest. She needed to reach her parent's tree. They were bowtruckles. Bowtruckles never left their trees, no matter what. She stopped running when she saw the shadow phoenix, Acidious. Remembering Calla Flower, she moved to say this to Acidious.

"Yew, is that you?" I asked. I had been injured in the battle when the dome had fallen. I tried my hardest to get back up but something was blocking my powers. Oh god! What if Lexie's dead? Kasper will kill me.

Yew approached the shadow phoenix carefully. Keeping her ears peeled for sounds, she opened her voice.
"Calla Flower injured. She hurt leg-her leg. They said infection. She in Hospital Wing, she'll be good-she awake and talking, big man in hut found her, have you seen mummy? Daddy?" asked Yew quickly, hoping to get answers.

"Oh dearest Yew, I haven't seen your Mummy or Daddy, yet. Why don't you climb onto my back and we shall go and hunt each tree for them. Does that sound good?" I desperately wanted to go and find Lexie but I knew that I had to help Yew find her parents first.

Jei got to his feet and took a few steps toward his mother. He glanced at Harrigan and hung his head.
"I'm sorry mother, Harrigan." He said softly, "I- I didn't listen and I brought her into a fight... I'm sorry I could keep her safe."

Yew glanced warily at the phoenix. However, mummy and daddy needed her.
"Alright, Yew goes with you," said Yew, climbing on the phoenix nervously.
"It's not your fault Jei, I should have chased you, it was her murderer's fault, my fault," he said Harrigan quickly, not wanting the boy to become upset.

Jei just shook his head, not sure what to say. He walked up to the Kei, and whined softly. Kei nuzzled his neck affectionately, if sadly.
"Jei, don't be to sad. You know her, she'll be right happy wherever she is now. Safe and happy."

Harrigan felt his throat constrict. He looked at Lexie, and nodded to the side. They'd leave Kei and Jei to mourn alone.
"We're going to go," said Harrigan out loud, before taking Lexie's hand and pulling her away from the mother and son.

Kei look at Harrigan, and though she still was quite angry, she managed to give a curt, thankful nod. Kei and Jei went over to the mossy log and lay down, in silent vigil.

"Don't blame yourself Harrigan, you couldn't have known what would happen. Maybe it was destined to happen."
I slowly flew to each remaining tree to find Yew's parents and it was on the last one that we found them, it wasn't good. I left the poor little creature with her parents in order to say a proper goodbye and flew off in a random direction. One that happened to be where Lexie was.
"Oh Lexie! Your not hurt, thank goodness. I would have been here sooner but my powers wouldn't work once the dome went down. I found young Calla's friend Yew and she's passed on a message for me to give to you. Calla is injured, she was going to gather some food for Yew when the battle started and remembering your instructions young Calla turned back to the castle at a run but snapped her leg clean. It doesn't sound that serious but she will need a walking aid for the rest of her life."

Harrigan watched Lexie's face crumble at the message. He knew how she felt as he remembered the innocent creature lying dead on the floor. He squeezed her hand in support.
"Is there anyway for you to check on Calla?" he asked.
Yew stared at her parents dead bodies. It felt all wrong, they couldn't be dead. She began to sob loudly as she stood by their bodies. Her parents were dead! She didn't know what to do, they were gone. No more would she feel her mama's song in her ears, or her papa giving her wood lice for breakfast, they were gone. The tiny bowtruckle curled up by her dead parents and cried herself to sleep.

After a long long evening, Lucinda finally allowed herself to sleep. And though her dreams were untroubled, her heart would not be.

Calla? Injured? How did this happen? I swore I would protect her and look where that's gotten her. Injured with a leg that will never truly heal. "Harrigan, I need to find a way into the school, help me, please?" I pleaded with him in desperation.

Harrigan looked at Lexie with sadness. He had already failed Kei, he couldn't promise Lexie anything. He couldn't deal with her disappointment and anger today too.
"I can take you to the edge of the forest, we can see if we can get to the school," offered Harrigan, "I'll let you ride my back."

"But your injuries, I couldn't ask you to do that!" I could feel a strange tension building between us and I was scared of what would happen between us.

"Dammit Lexie! Let me do something to help! I can't stand here knowing I've failed everyone around me! You saved my life today, and you know you won't be feeling well tomorrow morning, let me help you," he yelled angrily, his frustrations blowing free.
"Please," he added softly, coming closer and gazing into her eyes. Her beautiful, worried eyes.

Dammit! Why does he have to do this to me?! I couldn't do this anymore, I had to have him, here and now and so I flew at him in an agressive passionate kiss.

Seeing what Lexie was doing I flew back to Yew and seeing what she was doing I gently pulled the little creature away and flew towards the school. Naturally I shouldn't have been able to cross the barrier being a Phoenix but luckily I'm also a half Raven and so that cancels the Phoenix gene out. Poor Calla looked ever so scared lying in that bed.

Harrigan was startled when Lexie wrapped her arms around him in a kiss. He felt her lips press against him and he felt himself kissing her back. His arms slid around her waist, and he suddenly felt his own carnal desires rising, but he couldn't do this to Lexie. He wasn't going to fall in love with her from tonight, and he couldn't promise her he would. Breaking the kiss, he met her eyes.
"I can't,' he said, "I can't do this to you, Lexie. I won't end up in love with you, I won't be able to promise you anything."

"I don't care about that! Please, just this once? We can fight it this night and then forget that anything ever happened, I know that you want it to" I whispered in desperation. Now that I'd started it my body needed the release, if Harrigan wouldn't give me it then I'd find someone else.

After everything that had happened today, all the despair, all the devastation, Harrigan just wanted to forget. He didn't think he was ready to face the world. He looked at Lexie, and considered her offer. Just one night. They could take tonight to forget the world, forget everything, Xie's body, the boy he'd left dead, Calla's injury, Yew's parents, the forest'd destruction, everything. He couldn't deny that he needed this release right now, right here, both physically and emotionally.
"Just this once," he said, taking her face between his hands and bringing her lips to his, and letting himself go.

"I told you, I said it would be good" panted Lexie as she looked into Harrigan's dark brown eyes, the flecks of gold making them more hypnotic to look at. "Who knew I could be that flexible?"

"Sunshine, you've got a wicked side to you," said Harrigan, stroking her purple hair in his fingers, "And I'll never doubt your words again, or your fkexibility."
He smirked playfully at her, feeling the tension of the night having rolled off his shoulders as they sat side by side in the moonlight.

Once I deposited Yew back into Calla's care I went to see if Lexie's was now free, luckily she was. "Lexie, I've seen Calla. She's fine, and I've promised to transport her to the funerals when they happen. It was the only thing that would calm her down and stop her from coming down here herself."

"See sunshine, she's fine," said Harrigan with a nod to Lexie, removing his hand from her hair. "We should get some rest, tomorrow's going to be a long day."

"Aren't you shaping into a good little mummy? Relax, the foal will be fine. You don't need to worry, the ministry won't attack today. And she'll have healed a bit, the funerals need to be planned still," said Harrigan teasingly as he lay down to sleep.

Lucinda awoke the next morning, with the magical equivalent of a hang over. She gave it a few moments to pass and checked her surroundings. She had spent hours healing the injured last night, before she finally blacked out. Looking around, she noticed that Rhea lay huddled in a ball on the floor, fast asleep, curled under a blanket of leaves.
Quietly, as so not to disturb her, Lucinda set out for the day. She would see if anyone else needed to be healed, and try to offer some words of comfort for the dead. It was her duty to do so, after all.

She soared high in the air, the aches and pains of yesterday gone. She looked down below, and everything was still a long way from healing. There were more dead than she remembered, and still plenty of wounded... But just as she went to communicate with the others below, Lucinda felt a strange tug - the vow at work once more. She flashed to follow the sensation, appearing in what was probably a very dangerous place for her to be.
