So I got a warning from the ProBoards administration yesterday. I screenshot it and saved it on imgur I personally didn't think the links were all that bad. There were sex scenes, yes, but apparently ProBoards frowns on that. I don't know if someone complained to them directly, or they took it upon themselves to search the forum, but there we go. So, please refrain from posting graphic material (essentially indepth sex scenes) for the time being. I'll see what I can do with the ProBoards admins though it probably won't be much.

From what little I know of Proboards, and the bit of googling I've done, they follow through on reports from elsewhere. Essentially, someone had to report the links to have us recieve the message, which makes sense since I don't think Proboards has enough staff to monitor each board....
That's a bit of a downer...

Yeah, if you have an issue, please report it to me or ShotgunWilly. Don't go running to the Proboard staff.

Do they have the same guidelines for Private Messaging, or just posting? Many stories I read have sexually explicit content, and if someone wants the link, can I message them, or would I have to do it through a third party software such as Skype?

Just the main screen. Privacy policy protects the messages.
Though, I don't think we have too much to worry about, they did only send us a warning, and it looks like only the general threads were inspected. As long as fic writers back their own stories up, it shouldn't be a concern.

Is this site glitching for anyone else? Right now, the text wrap feature seems to be off, plus I'm missing my recent posts feature that was on top of the forum. It's driving me crazy, as well as certain threads don't show as having a new post, even if they do.

So in otherwords another FF.. And considering the fact that a few of us have the board link on our profiles I wouldn't be suprised if it was the same people..

*sighs* That would be pretty messed up if they actually bothered to come here...
I don't think they'd go that far, though. Seriously, they got us off FFN, why would they bother coming here?

At least proboards gives you a warning, that alone made me happy to see.

Yeah, it's good to know that they don't just delete here without warning. Though I still don't see why the post was such a problem - not that explicit, after all *sigh* For some people, even being 100 is not old enough to read anything even remotely sexual, obviously

They don't really check the post, people who report and the proboards, which sucks, but this is a publim domain with a pg-13 rating..and no way to censor or warn the younger group.. It's not perfect, but better than FF's policies

Well it is rather sad that this happened when we were going really good.. I guess we will just have be more vague with our content in that aspect... But suppose it is better then ff.net does it. I suppose you could PM the explicit content if a reader asks for it. Plus this is better then just being deleted at least here we can write our stories, we will just need to be more PG:13ish....

Just thinking, maybe we should cut back a bit on the language in the discussions as well? Seeing how many fics are rated T or so for swearing, this might become an issue here, too?

I don't think language is a problem, especially on this board.

If you say so ... but if the stories are only allowed to go up to PG-13, why would the discussions be so different, particularly as on FFN the language often causes a T rating? Of course, if you are right, I'm not complaining. Just thought to bring that up.

MIght be wise, at least until we are certain what the proboards policy in that regard is. Personally, I have no problem with it, mind you, and it's not meant as a critic of anyone who is swearing, it's more a precaution. We don't want to get Point Given into trouble, after all.

Plus for the most part people can tolerate extreme violence, torture, and language, but god forbid someone have sex, cause sex is wrong and your body is evil.

It looks like some trolls have found their way to the site. Maybe Point Given and ShotgunWilly need to do a kind of vetting process and age requirement for people who want to join the site, after all when the site first opened everyone was basically familiar with the names of everyone joining from ffn and knew they weren't trolls. Now we have no clue who the people joining are and whether or not they are joing just to cause trouble.

That can't be set up, because the site was made using proboards, who's policy is no M rated material.

|
|
Post by blackroses77 on Jul 26, 2012 11:21:54 GMT -5
I hope everyone follows the policy but I still think who joins the site should be more closely monitored. I thought you had to be approved by Point Given to join the site or is that wrong?

Nope, it's free registration. The problem with a closed registration is
A) There are way too many registrations per day to keep up
B) You don't know who is a troll, and who isn't until they actually start posting.

Blackrose, the only thing Point Given is approving of is the subboards for stories, and that's more a technical problem, as far as I know (you need Admin rights for it). But the registration is automatised.
