I received yet another message from the ProBoards administration
I can't really see a way around this. This is a warning just in case the forum is shut down and you guys don't know why.
If it gets shut down, I'll continue my own stories on livejournal or facebook or whatever, but I'm done with creating forums.

Huh, you ninja'd me... >_> lol. meh
So, anyway, yea. If people want to explore other options, feel free. No other free forum-hosting site will be any different from Proboards in this matter, so any alternative would probably involve buying server space, which would be roughly $10 a month if memory serves. Also, whoever admin'd it would have to deal with forum software. Easier way would be Invision Power Board, but that'll cost a couple hundred dollars when it's all said and done. phpBB is free, but it's much harder to set up.

Oki. I made myself a blog, too. Just in case. ithiarel.wordpress.com/I'm fairly certain that our type of stories are illegal everywhere, so we might be moving around a lot. Are we keeping the IRC channel? It would at least be a way to keep in touch with each other...

*sigh* So, is that another one of these idiots who go around reporting everything? From the site name, it should have been clear to Proboards from day one what this is ... But I strongly suspect the CU is behind that.
Could we at least keep the discussion board up, as it doesn't contain stories and we enjoy the talking so much?

Ithiarel, the IRC channel's still registered, I'm just not on terribly often these days. @kitty, sure, nothing wrong with keeping the discussion, but we'll have to delete every single story on here. I want to give a bit of fair warning first.

Nice idea.
Keep the discussion boards open and add another board where people can simply post links to their homepages / blogs / livejournals where they publish their stories...
That way we wouldn't be linking the stories directly (I'm certain that would be illegal, too) and everyone would still be able to find an author or a specific story...

What about the oneshots? They are just normal fanfiction? Nice idea. Keep the discussion boards open and add another board where people can simply post links to their homepages / blogs / livejournals where they publish their stories... That way we wouldn't be linking the stories directly (I'm certain that would be illegal, too) and everyone would still be able to find an author or a specific story... Thought that for a moment, too, but it would probably just lead to the CU following and harrassing everyone there, too. Maybe PM would be a safer method ... that way they really have to search.

Save the oneshots.
I just don't have enough time to be setting up a forum anymore, unlike a few months ago. I like Xenforo forums too but its $140

Just wondering, would a mailing list be an option, too? A bit more work for everyone, but that way the stories/updates wouldn't be online anywhere. *That* can't be illegal, can it?

Can we do that then? Delete the stories then? I'd rather keep the site up without the stories then lose it altogether. If everyone gets a PM then we can keep it running without thr stories. I love this site too much to let it go like this!

I prefer Invision Power Board myself, but buying a license to it costs $175, not to mention addons
@kitty: Making the forum private - at the least not allowing guests to view - would help too, I think.

I'd happily delete my story to save the board, but I do think that the mailing list idea would work too.

Why does this have to keep on happening? I too just made a blog for safety where I'll start updating as well, once I can figure out how to make categories and organize my stuff that is. dimcairien.wordpress.com/

Alright.... I'll send out a mass-PM or email telling everyone to prepare - Every forum that's not a part of the General category will be deleted tomorrow

The Mailing List Option would be fine with me, too.
But, please, please, safe the discussion boards we created here. There're so many great ideas and discussions here. Loosing them would make me cry...

I've met so many lovely people here that I'd be really upset if this went. The stories we can send through something else, but we won't get something like the discussion and rp boards again.

And the Role-Play and challenge board, and the one-shots. And the people. There's just too much to lose from this forum The minute I saw the title I think I almost broke into tears.

Same. No, we'll keep this going, we have to it's one of the only things distracting me from the crappiness of my life at the moment.

This forum has become my online home, so to speak, in these few weeks it has existed, and it was going so strongly, it would be so sad if it was lost. We all have so much fun. So, better give the stories up here, than lose everything.
A sticky thread that tells people about the mailing list, maybe? That way new members could be added - and as many wouldn't want their e-mail address published, there could be some members listed who someone can PM their email for adding, and the thread could tell which stories are on the list, maybe? Something in that direction? Can't work out everything in a few minutes.

Don't worry about the 6 forums under "General", those will stay.
Also, if someone makes that thread, I'll sticky it or announcement it or whatever.

Someone just started a thread to post links to alternative sites. And I do like the idea of a mailing list if that can be set up.

Thanks It's really the only thing I can come up with at the moment, seeing as we will probably end up with the same problem everywhere in the end, and it's so hard to keep track of so many different websites.

We could make a list of all the authors willing to get involved with the mailing list in the sticky, like one list, and then it'll be easy to know who you can get chapters from.

Going to make that thread, or what I have so far, ok? It can be edited later for more details.

If we go through YahooGroups or GoogleGroups I think the GroupManager can choose to approve / admit people to the group, instead of making it open for anyone.
But I have no real experience with setting those up (even though I am a member of an yahoo group...)

By the way, what will you do about the Challenge Board? Most of them are challenges to RtB stories.

By the way, what will you do about the Challenge Board? Most of them are challenges to RtB stories. The Challenges don't contain any copyrighted text, so I don't see the problem with these.
