Now, this is one thing I do not want:
My email address open for everyone to see on the net.
Sorry, but no. I don't mind giving it out to people, who ask me by PM. But my account was hacked once already, I don#t want to go through that again...

Okay, I do realize publicly posting the email is bad.
So here's the idea now.
Each author has a couple of subforums (for the summaries, warnings, requests to read, questions, etc) Also, each want to be reader will PM the author. The author will then create groups to email to. (I've created email groups in gmail. You just enter whatever emails you want into group, then to email to everyone, you just need to type the group name in the main email box).
This way, the author's summaries and everything are posted, readers know what they're going to be reading, the emails are organized, and no one's emails are posted publicly.
Did that make sense to everyone?
Oh, and good link Wings. Do you think that might work for us?

I'm bumping my previous post. I think, it got lost. :-)
We should definitely keep a topic where we list all the participating authors, and what stories they write.
How about this:
Set up a new board. Make a topic, listing the authors alphabetically, their stories and a "sales pitch". Then, make that topic sticky. Make another topic for each author, where the author can post their summary, warnings, and even answer questions.
That way all the data needed would be in that one board... and since the author posts their own "information topic" the readers can simply pm them to get in contact if they want to read the story...

There's a lot of posting going on right now and it also sounds like a couple of us are saying very similar things. I'm basically trying to say what you're saying, Ithiarel. I do think it might be simpler if we kept the overall formatting similar to what we have here. I'll check back in later as I'm off to go to lunch with a friend. Hopefully something can get worked out quickly.

That would still be only for the organisation, Wingy, and if we keep the discussions here, it would just be easier to keep everything else here, too. Why split it up?
Itihiarel, for that, we can just keep what we already have, minus the story threads themselves. We have all the names, nicely sorted.

should do. i just searched for free forums in google and found that one. has a lot of features plus it's free But I fear, that it will only give us another month or so, instead of solving the problem permanently. Since the stories are basically illegal, I'm nearly certain that freeforums would delete the board, too, as soon as it is pointed out to them... Better find a lasting solution. If that means, we'll have to go "underground" again, than let's do that. (It's just like in the very early days of the internet, when the warez community communicated solely by mailing lists) ;D

Are we still going to privatize the board? I think we should. That way at least we have a list of people we know for sure, if we keep it public, than we have no idea who's doing what..

If Shotgunwilly is deleting the stories in time, they shouldn't do that. The discussions aren't illegal!

My last answer was aimed at Wingy, but the answers here are coming too fast. Same here, it gets frustrating. That's why I believe we need a solution that's more private and not dependent on any website.

Well, I've just made a list of all the author's whose fics I'm following. Just so, I can contact them by PM later.
I hope no one gets disillusioned enough to stop writing their stories. That would be a pity. I now, I'm not stopping. Now, I'm more determined than ever to finish my story. But I can imagine that some others might think that the effort needed becomes too much...

What about livejournal/dreamwidth? People could post their stories to their individual journals, and then there could be a community to announce updates

I know I am going to join a good number of mailing lists (or whatever we do) - yours among them!
It's annoying, but if we find a way to do it privately, we should be spared all the moves, re-formatting and all that, so in the end, it would be worth it.

Freeforms.com is a no go. I just read the terms of service and it has the same rules on posting copyrighted works like ProBoards. I think that rule goes for any blogging or forum website.
I have a suggestion, instead of using the copyrighted work, just write brief description of which part book that gets a reaction.

When I finally decide that my stories are decent enough for people to read them, I'll be trying to work out how to post them on my little area of Googlesites. That's going to be my solution.

What about livejournal/dreamwidth? People could post their stories to their individual journals, and then there could be a community to announce updates As long as only a few did it, they don't seem to object. But if so many do it now, I wonder how long it takes until CU and Co. are targeting all the stories there, too? They might be harder to find, but not impossible so.

How did this happen!!! I'm still in Boston but decided to check up on the site and see what I was missing and I find THIS! I haven't read everything so may be repeating things but I hope the discussion board stays up and something can be started to alert people when a story is updated at other sites. Some posts seemed to suggest making the board private, I hope that can be done so no cu idiots can get on again. I have some time now so am off to try to catch up on what I've missed.

I agree, Kitty.
It mght be best if we split up - everyone just go to whatever place they want to. As long as we keep one central point to coordinate things and to get incontact with authors (i.e. this community), we'll be fine.
Personally, I think, I'm going with the mailing list solution. Additionally to my blog.
Right now, I'm thinking on posting every alternating chapter on my blog. Since my fic is made up of alternating RtB- and non-RtB-chapters this seems a good solution to me. I'll post the non-RtB-chapters in my blog, and simply send the RtB chapters by mail... Should work, yes?

Wouldn't reading the books fall under the fair use doctrine since it's a critique, commentary, or satire of the copyrighted work in question.

if you just copied a small portion of it then yes, however as rtbs they generally do more than a chapter or two. A whole book/s does not fair use make.

Just thinking ... posting links to blogs and so on will probably lead to stories being targeted there, too. The more I think about it, the more the mailing list solution appeals to me.

Hey I just thought of something, why doesn't everyone post their stories on the new yourfanfic site they have a category specifically for RtB fics so there shouldn't't be a danger of the stories being deleted.
