"Hang on!" Joshua said, his voice coming out strangled. Quickly, he shoved the wand under the pillow and changed into the clean clothes, hands shaking. The pillow lay lopsided on the otherwise fairly tidy bed, but he didn't notice.
"Come in!"

Amelia entered the room, smiling. It felt strange to see Joshua dressed in the simple clothes of a farm boy, but he did look grand still. Robby's shirt was a bit too big, and slightly torn, but it was Robby after all. Her eyes darted to Joshua's concerned face, and then the pillow. It was rather lopsided...
"Is something wrong?" She asked Joshua, staring at the pillow and his face.

"No." Joshua said quietly. "Everything's fine, magical even. Shall we go and meet your parents, I'm sure they're all waiting."

Amelia stepped into the room, and made for the pillow to straighten it. She could tell something was off with Joshua's mood, and as she straightened the pillow, she noticed the tip of her wand. Immediately her body froze, and she considered Joshua's words again.
"Did you move the pillow?" she asked, her voice a dead whisper, so she wasn't even sure if he had heard her.

"It fell off the bed. Vicky put the clothes right on top, I knocked it picking them up." zjoshua sighed, putting his head in his hands.

Amelia was frozen, her back to Joshua as she repeated the sentence in her head over and over again, as though trying to make sense of it all. She didn't move as she continued, "Y-You sa-saw it?"

"So you admit it's yours then." Joshua sighed, lifting his head to stare up at Amelia, or more precisely her back.

Amelia turned around, woodenly as though she couldn't move. She looked at Joshua, and then fell on the bed, unable to stand. Her eyes were wide open, and she didn't know what to say. All she could do was look to the ground. It seemed like an eternity passed, before she finally said in a trembling, almost tearful whisper, "I'm sorry."

"Hey." Joshua said, moving over and putting an arm around Amelia, suddenly feeling strangely calm. "Why are you apologising?"

"I-I lied to you!" she said finally, as she began to cry, "I-I've been lying to everyone! I'm a-a-
She couldn't even bring herself to say it as she sobbed harder at that. Amelia had never told anyone her secret before, and the fact that Joshua hadn't pushed her away made her cry harder. She buried her head in her hands as she cried, feeling scared and relieved at the same time.

"It doesnt matter, Amelia, I thought I explained this morning! And the lying is understandable, Id do the same." Joshua said, pulling her into a hug.

Amelia hugged Joshua back, relieved he understood. Slowly her sobs slowed down, until she was no longer crying, and just revelling in the warmth of knowing someone stood by her, witch and all. As she seperated from him, her eyes were slightly red, and her nose blotchy. It was fairly obvious she'd been crying.
"Amelia! Joshua! Dinner's ready!" called her mother.
"You can't mention anything to them!" said Amelia suddenly, straightening up, "They'll never understand! They'd hate me!"

"I won't." Joshua smiled softly. "But you might want to wash your face before dinner if you don't want them to know you're upset."

"Yeah," said Amelia, smiling a wobbly smile, "Thank you. You're the first person I've ever told, besides the hedge witch who used to babysit me for my mother. She was really old though, and passed away a few years ago."
With that, Amelia got up, and grabbed a cloth to use. She normally just used a wand to wet the cloth, but she didn't know if that might be too much, "Er, shall I show you some magic then?"

"I'm honoured." Joshua grinned. "and it might make it seem a bit more real if you show me. This feels like a very strange dream at the moment."

Amelia smiled back, excited for the first time to show someone her magic. She slipped her wand out from underneath the pillow, and then glanced at the door nervously.
"Aguamenti!" she whispered, and a light trail of water erupted from her wand onto the cloth. She made the wand movement to cancel it as she slipped the wand back under her pillow, "Magic. What did you think?" She said this as she wiped her face clean, to avoid looking at Joshua in embarrassment.

"That's amazing!" Joshua gasped, mouth falling open. "It makes me wish I could do that, imagine how much time you'd save!"

Amelia smiled back, as she threw the wet cloth by the window to dry. It made her giddy with excitement to know Joshua really did accept her!
"Let's get going to dinner," she said as she grabbed his hand, "And I do save a lot of time. But that was a rather simple spell. My teacher passed away before I could get more training."

"Not unless I find some other witch," said Amelia with a shrug, "And even then, I'd have to find a pretty solid excuse to visit them without family. Most don't stay here long and the few I have met I'm never sure about."
As she said this, she opened the door for them to leave. She could see Vicky and Kent having a heated discussion down the hall, and it looked like Kent wanted to come check on them. She rolled her eyes at her brother, "Coming, Joshua?"

"Thank you," she said with a smile, as the two walked out. Kent and Vicky stopped their argument to look at the two, Vicky with a beaming smile, Kent with a suspicious look, mostly directed at Joshua.
"What took so long?" he asked with a scowl, his eyes never leaving Joshua, "And why were the two of you in the same room?"
"I went to get him, silly," said Amelia, rolling her eyes.
"And what took so long to get you?" Kent asked, his dark eyes boring into Joshua as Vicky stood behind them and mouthed "I support you!"

"I promised her I'd tell her a story about the king after dinner, but I'm afraid she couldn't wait." Joshua said, shaking his head ruefully and winking at Amelia. "I'm so sorry for the delay."

Kent glared even harder at Joshua for winking at Amelia, who was stifling her laugh, "That true, Amy?"
"Don't call me Amy," she hissed, "And yes, it was a rather amazing story."
"I'm sure it was!" said Vicky with a beaming smile, "Oh leave them alone Kent! You're not her father, now come along, let's all eat!" She turned Kent around with surprising dexterity for a pregnant woman, and mouthed 'well-done' to the two.
"She's convinced we're lovers," muttered Amelia to Joshua, as she glared at Vicky's back.

"Oh no, just the ones that aren't married or are young enough to be interested," said Amelia, as they entered the hall. Her father was now seated at the table calmly, as were the twins. It seemed Johnny hadn't been able to contain himself, and was pacing. Her mother was ladling out the stew.
"Come eat dears!" said her mother with a warm smile, "Why don't the two of you sit beside father?"
Amelia nodded, and pulled Joshua to sit on her other side, as she sat down by her father, who asked, "So, you're the noble's son then? Vicky seemed to think it was important to mention that."

"Oh, what a charming young lad," said her mother, "It's just a bit of meat, some herbs, the usual things. Would you like some bread? It's fresh!"
Amelia smiled, as she stirred her broth. Her mother was always so pleasant to everyone.
"The Earl's son, wouldn't he disapprove of you sitting among us?" asked her father, making Amelia sigh, and there was her father with unpleasant questions.

"Really?" snorted Johnny, as he took a seat across from Joshua. Vicky sat down beside Joshua, with the twins beside her. Kent settled on the other side of Johnny. Her mother took the seat beside her father.
"So, Joshua dear, how did you and Amy become friends?" asked her mother pleasantly.
