Pro civilan gun ownership: Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, George Orwell, Martin Luther King Jr. ? I seriously doubt they'd feel the same way now. And as for the fox news thing, fox news is not a legitimate news source it's nothing more then a tabloid. |

Yeah, that article is very obviously written by someone who wants to justify civilians armed to the teeth. What they forget is that it happens more often in the US, just luckily with less victims, and that we don't have street gangs killing each other or innocent bystanders on a regular basis, because they usually only have fists or sometimes knives. Or that guy some time ago who killed a black teenager for 'looking suspicious' and got away with it because Florida laws allow that. Here he'd been arrested straight away and put on trial for murder. And 'I felt threatened' would not have worked.
But then, there are always these who are using everything only to underline their own opinion and will close their eyes to everything that disproves them. Plus, I get the feeling there are many (though not all, mind you!) in the US who still live in the times of the cold war and haven't even noticed how much has changed. I've been lurking on some discussion boards once and was appalled how little people knew about Europe. For them it's all a big huge communist place, and they completely missed that it wasn't even true before the Iron curtain fell and even less since. Besides, these communist countries weren't about gun control for safety, but to keep their citizens from rebelling against an oppressive regime. But there's just no arguing with people who can't see past their preconceived notions.

As an American I'm becoming more and more nervous about the direction in which our country is headed between restricting civil liberties and shushing our crimes against other nations we are slowly evolving into a a father knows best state of fascism
