I got to say, completely agree with your analysis of each author.

Yay Rick Riordan fan! I got to say, completely agree with your analysis of each author. LOL I like his simple approach to the YA Genre. I loved the humor, action, light sprinkle of romance he added in. Though I didn't like his approach of Hera's character. Overall I love his work

I didn't mind the approach for Hera actually, but I think he's adding new depths in the Heroes of Olympus to her character. I find that he does the perfect aging(?) of his characters in that they don't get traumatised to extremes and still come out dandy (Harry-HBP) and they're not overtly whiny. He just makes them grow up so well and doesn't over complicate his plots or drop and add characters at random.

No idea, but we never hear from 'Moon' again either.
Or a lot of the other kids named during Sorting Feasts.

I always thought that they ended up joining Beauxbatons and Durmstrang and leaving in GOF so that they didn't have to deal with the bullshit happening at Hogwarts anymore (i.e Stone, COS, Sirius Black trying to murder a student, etc)

Either that or they just didn't figure into any of the excitement at all ... didn't participate in the final battle, for instance.
Or Harry could only keep track of so many people, but couldn't help hearing the names of others ... or ... well, who knows. *snerk*

I feel like this is the opportune moment to create a random theory board based on what happened, let's go see what people think!

From everything I have read on this thread I'm glad I never read the Twilight series, I was thinking about reading it when it first came out and everyone was raving about it but then I found out it was written in first person and that just killed any inclination I had to read it. My best friend absolutely loves the series and finally convinced me to watch the first Twilight movie on dvd (HP was over and I was hoping to find a new series and thought if the movie was any good I would consider struggling through the first ch and see if I could set aside the 1st person thing as everything I had heard about the book was just glowing with praise). The movie was alright but it didn't grab my attention enough to read the books like the first HP movie got me hooked so that I started reading the books. Again after reading everything here about the Twilight saga I am very, very glad I never attempted to read the books.
But as far as SM's grammer etc. is concerned that should have really been taken care of by the proof-reader and editor. From the sounds of it who ever proof-read/edited the books really fell down on the job.

*Snickers* It's been a while since I've done this, but since I've bashed on JKR, I think I need to bash on SM.
Editor: I just read the book, it's got a great premise, but you use these words a lot, I highlighted them in red.
SM: They don't sparkle. I don't care.
Editor: Um, what?
SM: It's a perfect series. Isn't Edward handsome? I had a wonderful dream of him and well, the rest is history!
Editor: Yes, but we need to focus on making the edi-
SM: But Bella's too pretty and amazing and I- I mean she, deserves more love. That's why she needs more guys to like her. Maybe we should add the school football team into her harem!
Editor: Ma'am, I think you're missing the point. The writing needs to be more concise and less descriptive about Edward's face. You're missing some punctuation, and-
SM: But Edward's face is the holy grail! It's the important part of the series! I mean, he sparkles, and he's gorgeous and I'M NOT CHANGING IT!
Editor: EEP! Alright... *glances over notes* Alright, what about the relationship? I mean, they don't seem too functional together. Edward pushes her away every other chapter.
SM: It's to add angst and make them more realistic.
Editor: He's a sparkling vampire, I think we've passed realistic. The only way this could go even further from reality is if you added that animals and songbirds sing every time he goes by.
SM: Can we do that?
Editor: No, he's a vampire. For gods sake woman, at least make him scary to something.
SM: Darn, what about if the sing when I-I mean Bella, walks by.
Editor: You know what, let's just say we edited this. To the printers.
SM: And then Edward can take me-Bella in his arms, and we'll have kinky sex!
Editor: Good bye Ms. Meyer. (She's fucking insane!)

Blackroses, if you ever want to get a *really* good breakdown of what happens in the books without having to read them, look up Cleolinda, and Google 'Twilight recaps (ar analysis)'. You'll find a crapton of people that have actually read those excrecent books and parsed them down for the rest of us.
That's pretty much how I know what I do about Twilight. A 50+ year-old friend of my mother's was gushing about the books when the first movie came out, and had bought the books. She let me read, I got through about two chapters of the first book and went 'oh, hell no' and then looked it up online.
I can't remember the name, but somewhere out there is a recap of the books done by a Mormon, that points out all the Mormon idealogy, beliefs, and such that are in the books.

MORMONS!!! and I'll also had a wtf. I think I will check out both the recaps and the mormon link. Though I don't think I'll burst my friends bubble by pointing any of this out. And gnovella that little skit between Editor and SM was hilarious! Especially the part and I quote: SM: It's to add angst and make them more realistic. Editor: He's a sparkling vampire, I think we've passed realistic. Sarcasm is the best comedy lol.

Ok just read the article...and...yeah, no matter what she says her mormon (and that was something I didn't know about either) background definitely seems to have influenced her writing even if it was subconciously.

Oh she probably has, but she probably doesn't really care. Pattison said it was all made-up BS though. I don't get why she's denying it. Market it for rebellious mormon chicks But all her books are being made into movies, everything. The Host and the other vampire book are planned, I think the Host is scheduled for a release in 2013. I don't know whether to pity the movie industry, or worry that SM is so popular that just her name on a book earns millions and a movie franchise.

Reason number 5,872,013,964 why JKR, for all her faults, is better than Meyers:
Meyers has TEN BLANK PAGES in one of her books. Because Edward left Bella and she therefore ceased to exist as a person.
Jesus H. Christ. And people actually *like* this crap?
