I don't know why, but I really don't like the idea of Animagus forms being magical creatures. I know it works for Patronuses, but I just can't see it for the Animagus form.
I see Harry either as a wolf or some sort of hawk. A fast predatory bird would fit with the flying/hunting aspects of Harry's personality. But then the wolf could work too; they're strong pack animals but lone wolves can be equally dangerous.

Is it strange that I doubt I'll ever write Harry as an Animagus because I have no idea what he'd be.

My impression was that an Animagus would probably be the same as the Patronus, but we don't have enough proof to be sure. So, he might be a stag like Prongs and his Patronus, but I could see him as a bird as well, considering his love of flying. Or maybe even something else, I don't have a definite answer for what he even might be, either.
