I'm in the process of writing a classic Harry goes back in time and meets the Marauder's fic... and I was wondering what everyone thinks his animagus form would be. I personally think it would something like a dog, to show how close he is to his two father figures, Sirius and Remus.

He could be a jackal. That's dog-like, but it's also different enough for him to be himself.

I was always under the impression that the Animagus and Patronus forms were the same - both representations of the soul or the animal form of their nature. For example Sirius was a dog to represent the extreme loyalty he had for his friends, James in particular. Seen by his declaration in PoA: "I would died. Died rather than betray my friends".
But also from McGonagall's Animagus cat form. In DH she sends three cat Patronus' to send messages.
And as such Harry's would be a stag.

That's somewhat of an explanation.. However, Tonks patronus became a werewolf, yet I don't think that Werewolf is an animagus form. Anyways, I don't want it to be the form to be the same as his Dad's in my story. They are two different people.

I could see Harry as a bird of some kind... maybe a raven?

I could see that as well. I'm kind of looking for something that goes along with Peter's animagus, while still matching Harry's personality... This is my Peter/Harry story .

I've never really thought about it, since I've always thought that the Marauders were the exception, and not the rule, meaning Harry wouldn't be an animagus because he doesn't have the ability.
If he does become an animagus, I've always seen him being a turtle, just cause turtles are awesome.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi! They fight to the death to protect their masters, are incredibly smart and clever.
Harry committed (what he thought to be) suicide to keep everyone safe in DH, repaired an alarm clock in SS/PS and incredibly observant.

I'd honestly make him a cross between a yorkie and a shih tzu. They are incredibly loyal, fun loving, intelligent, mischievous, and brilliant for the disabled. I know Harry's not disabled but he does get injured an awful lot so I guess that could count..

Sometimes Patronus forms and animagus forms are the same, but in actuality, your animagus form represents you, but your patronus form represents what makes you feel protected and safe.
So James's animagus form represented a very prideful being, which would not be right for Harry at all. But Harry's father made Harry feel safe, so that was Harry's Patronus.

In an earlier post I suggested a jackal, but I've thought about it more, because I'm trying to write my own story, with Harry being an animagus, and think Harry could be some kind of cat, because he seems to be fairly independent, and cats are by nature, independent creatures.

Currently, I'm leaning toward a bird- because in the Chinese Zodiac, the rat is best paired with a Dragon. (And I'd rather Animagus not be mythical/magical creatures.) So right now I'm thinking a bird- just the question is what kind

How about an eagle of some variety?

Hmmm, interesting. Personally, I'd prefer smaller birds, but it is an interesting though I'll look into!

I know you did not ask this but i would have loved to of seen in the books Ron be a flying ant as that would give him the ability to be the perfect spy given that he can fly and he is also tiny so it would be very very easy to get places where he can listen in on bad guys.

I love the idea of Harry as an eagle, and if or when I write them as animagus, I plan to have Harry as an Eagle. I'm fond of the idea of Hermione as an owl, and Ron as a lion. Luna I always think would be a gazelle, because they're delicate, but are fierce when threatened, and related to the wise (symbols of goddess Minerva). Neville I think of as a bear, mostly because Teddy Bears are so lovable and awkward, but then a real bear is fierce, like Neville. And Ginny I think of as a cat of some kind, sometimes a tiger.

Leaning toward a Robin.
Okay just kidding, maybe an eagle would be best.

"Partners" had Harry as a Tiger, Daphne as a wolf (I think) Neville as a bear, and Susan as some form of bird

I still can't see Harry as a Robin...seems a little docile for the Boy-Who-Lived-To-Conquer-The-Dark-Lord.

I would definitely go with Raven. No particular reason, I just really like them.

I like Raven's because A) it matches his hair color B)It flies C) Raven from teen titans (I'm sure she's in other comics, I just don't know of it.) is bad-ass and awesomesauce, And magical. D) I've hard that Ravens are the more intelligent of birds, despite being kind of small I'll figure out some other reasons. I'm like the idea of a Raven though.

Does no one like my turtle idea? Seriously, he would have a shell and everything to protect himself with.
