Or just have Molly Weasley scream at them. God that woman, even in my head she scares me.
In a Lion King/HP crossover I'm writing (The Lion and I), I've managed to make her scare Simba with her constant shrieks. Has she ever heard of the words indoor voice?

Why should she? She seems to be convinced that the one is right who can scream the loudest. Or at least that's how I see her - one of my issues with her is the way she screams every time something doesn't go her way. Great example for her kids, really.

Oh yeah, and then she scolds her children for being rowdy and loud. The only one she praises constantly is Percy, and he's got to be the quietest.

And the only one who agrees that being the Ministry bootlicker is the ultimate career. God, that woman annoys me - somewhere I have a list with all my issues with her!

If Molly Weasley could run her children' lives, here's what they'd be:
Bill-Married to a 'normal' girl, probably wealthy (not Malfoy or any Dark family), probably in the Ministry
Charlie: same as above
Percy: Well, she practically lived his life for him so.....
The twins: crush their souls and make them work in the ministry
Ron: Baby and just feed him till he pukes. Never leave home.
Ginny: Marry a nice boy after Hogwarts, settle down and have a family.

You forgot that Ginny needs a rich prince who can give her the life she deserves. Perferably Harry, who Molly considers her property already anyway. But I pretty much agree. It's really sad when your own mother refuses to accept your choices. Sometimes I think Molly tries to live through her children, because she never had her own life, marrying straight out of school and having children, no job, no friends, no getting out.

I don't think Molly refused her son's choices, she just wanted what any mother wants. Keep her children close in a safe career. Besides, all she knew was that the Ministry offered good jobs that paid well and were safe. I don't think it was about living through her children, but giving her children a better life than what she'd given them. Oh, and also, the sanity clause thing is from the Joker in the killing joke I can't take credit.

Didn't refuse their choices? What about the way she put the twins down for wanting to do what they did best - develop stuff for their joke shop? She didn't care what they were talented at. Ministry paid well? Considering that Arthur obviously didn't earn even remotely what he should have, that could be argued. And safe? With a bunch of imbeciles in charge and the Minister in the pocket of one of Voldemort's lieutenants? I guess my definition of safe and well paid isn't the same as Molly's Ok, in the beginning, it didn't really come out that obviously, but later on? My impression was that she didn't care if they were bored to death and unhappy, as long as they had a job that was respectable in her own eyes. And all she knew was the Ministry. Sure, it was meant well, but as my uncle used to say: Well meant is the opposite of well done. Sorry, I know you like her, but I just can't stand her. Ok, you can't take credit, but I like it anyway

Did Molly not even think about the fact that the Ministry was talking out of it's (cough) arse (cough), excuse me, and was putting Harry down constantly and refused to admit Voldemort was back. She still wanted her kids to work for those people! And she practically tells the twins that their dreams are worthless and a waste of everyone's time. Who actually says that to their own children? The Howler thing bugs me too. Ron's twelve for god's sake and she thinks that a good punishment is to thoroughly humiliate him in front of the whole school!? Again, who does that to their kid? And while the twins may brush off the fact they they're always getting howlers, bowing to everyone when they recieve one, I'm sure that every time they get one it hurts just that little bit more.

No, Molly didn't think about that. Ministry is synonym for respectable, forget who is in charge. She was seeing everything through rose-coloured glasses.
Agree about the howlers. But then, she seems to think public humilation is an appropriate reaction for every little thing. What she needs is a healthy dose of her own medicine. I always thought it would be poetic justice to wait until she is in Diagon Alley shopping and then send her a howler about some of the things she herself has done for everyone there to listen. Maybe then she would get the hint how humilating it is to get yelled at at the top of their voice and air her dirty laundry in front of a huge crowd.

Well, in all fairness, public humiliation was probably a fair punishment for what was done with the car CoS. That wasn't exactly a small thing that Ron and Harry did; statute of secrecy violations are very serious and I don't think that Dumbledore is one to threaten expulsion lightly, despite anything you have to say about him.. As it is, I think the professors let Ron and Harry off lightly precisely because they knew that some public humiliation was in order. Especially compared to later punishments given by professors, a single detention isn't that bad.
Also, the CoS howler is the only howler of Molly's that I remember ever hearing of in the books, so don't make it sound like she sends one for everything. I also can't remember any other real bad cases of her publicly humiliating her children. That's called getting fanon mixed up with canon right there. *shrug*

In my eyes, public humilation of children is never a fair punishment. I'd rather sit them down and talk to them in private.
Yeah right, and for being out after curfew in first year, they got a detention *and* lost 50 points each. That's still bothering me - way too harsh when you consider that taking out a troll and saving Hermione's life was worth five points ... you have to wonder about the whole point and punishment system.
Ron obviously knew what a howler was, so I strongly suspect he had seen his mum sending some to the twins.

I may have mixed up the Fred and George howler thing with fanon. And I only mentioned that one public humiliation for Ron, but the point is, surely she knows Ron has a terrible lack of self-worth and self-confidence. If I were her I would have apparated to the school (discretely) and scolded him in the Headmaster's office. Not yell at him through a piece of parchment in front of the whole school.
Besides, the teachers don't seem to know HOW to punish students. Both Mcgonagall and Snape (love them both truly) let their emotions rule them when it comes to Harry. McG' took 20 points from Draco for finding him out of bed, yet 50 each from Harry, Hermione and Neville for the same thing. And then sent them all to Hagrid (as if she couldn't guess the sort of thing he'd want their help with) at MIDNIGHT, completely against the rule she was trying to enforce!
Then when Harry asks her not to take points after the flying car incident simply because they don't even have points yet, she agrees and smiles, and gives them a single detention.
The whole system is ludicrous and backwards.

Random bit of advice here. Never listen to the Silent Hill soundtracks while reading some of the more suspenseful fics on ff.net. My cellphones ringtone scared the hell out of me just now.

In all honesty, how many here sneak into FFN or other websites at work?

I would go on here at school, but its doesn't work on my phone I have to admit to reading fanfiction during lessons though. I have to hide it from my friends, they all think its this big "geek" thing and everyone writes porn.

I used to copy by hand to read at work, and then I realized there must be a better way and discovered the backup sites.

As I am sitting at the PC all day at work, and need the internet for work, it's easier to sneak in now and then. (Though this week I am on holiday, otherwise I'd not play so much!) Maybe your should introduce your friends to FF. And tell them that there are sites especially for that, but many sites don't allow porn to begin with.
Flagfic - the one I used so far - doesn't work for my favourite archive, and besides, I have found out about these sites only recently. But I have been copying stories for years. First I did it because back then I was on dial-up - not ideal when you want to re-read 1000-page-fics! And later, I just wanted to have them for easy access, and copied every chapter as it was posted. In that frame, it works - but not to save dozens of stories in a matter of hours ... so Flagfic and it's compatibility with FFN proved to be useful.

I just save the fics I want to have ready on my harddrive through "ctrl+s" with the "html only" mode. Reading Blog-entries saved through that method occasionally makes trouble (because the pages want to load so many ads), but you can get around it by switching the browser to Offline-mode. And than I can simply drag-and-drop the html files into the browser.
May not be a pretty solution, but it works for me. And it's very fast.

Everyone has their own tricks, depending on browsers and other available means, and sometimes it's just force of habit, because one started it with something less well-working. As I've done that since around 2004, maybe even 2003, I just copied into Word documents. The new stories over Flagfic are pdf. But then, these I only read at home anyway, new updates I can read at work straight in the archive, if I have time in the first place, that is.

Well, at least I am not the only one who is doing it ... I remember when a certain website did a survey about what advertisements their users would tolerate the best, one of the most frequent points brought up was "no music or other accustic stuff" because pretty much everyone kept sneaking in at work - and the sound would have been a dead giveaway.
