The General boards ARE going to stay up. I've said it in most of my posts. @kuma: People can feel free to delete their own topics, but only admins can delete entire forums, which is what I'm going to be doing. I'm also not sure exactly when the 48 hours is up which is why I put up a deadline of noon tomorrow, CDT which is roughly 24 hours after Point told us about this. Are you just deleting the boards or are you deleting the threads then the boards? If the latter then just do the first one as deleting a board also deletes the threads within. or You can delete the Category and that will remove the boards and threads. I know, but people want to keep their reviews section, so... yea. Thankfully, the majority of people only have one story so it's only an extra button or 2 to press Also, if people don't mind, if you've already got your fics backed up, feel free to PM me and I'll take care of it; it'll be one less for me to do later. By default, I'll assume that you want to keep your reviews, but if you don't want to or don't care, then please tell me that as well.

Also:
Just to keep people aware, I intend to send out a mass e-mail to all registered members of this forum tonight before I go to bed. This will pretty much say the same thing that my earlier PM said, but this is just so that I'll be able to reach anybody who didn't see the PM.

This is getting ridiculous, I know who the person on fanfiction.net is deleting the stories. Honey the Bee, and Heart of Auir Take Two. He deleted mine from Fanfic, I ended up blocking him.

Yahoo groups seems to have even more stringent rules on copyright than others.
I think the best bet is a closed livejournal community. Sure, their TOS mentions copyrights, but if we close the community, no one but accepted users can read it, there can be multiple moderators, and we can tag posts, which we couldn't do on a mailing list.
Believe me, livejournal does not police their own communities, so if no one reports it, it won't get taken down because of what we do there.

There is a problem with a closed livejournal community. Some of us don't have livejournal accounts, and there's also the problem of not getting any new readers, because a closed livejournal community would not allow people to have a look and see whether they'd want to join or not. That would put a few people off.

Kool! I Like The LiveJournal Idea! I Also Think We Should Have A Emailing List! The Readers Who Want The Chapters Emailed To Them Can Just PM The Writer So No One's Email Is Public. I Think It Was Already Mentioned Before... But It's A Good Idea.

I made a Google group called Reading The HP Legacy (Books was taken, Maybe someone else did make a group already...) Anyway, you can write on the Google documents and just attach the file to a post you make. I thought it's a great place!

There is a site yourfanfiction.com that has a catagore just for reading the books Sadly, to upload there, we have to remove paragraphs of the original text, and for some of us, that isn't going to work, especially those who have the characters commenting almost every sentence.

Not sure if ultimately you want to go this route... but I own my own website and I can host a forum on my site. And yes I actually paid for the web space myself. cafemanga.com/reading/ is the tentative forum space if you guys want to use this option.

This might seem like a totally crazy idea, and there is a bit of a learning curve, but we could use the irc channel to distribute fics (both old and new). This the way that a lot of video files (such as tv show caps and fansubs of anime) were distributed before bittorrent, and many groups still use them.
It's basically p2p, so there's no one to report anything to unless they go to the isp of the person serving, and who's going to do that for fanfic, even if it contains entire copyrighted works.
It would basically work the same as emailing the fics out, but its self-serve.

why not use a bit torrent,as well, just in case the person doesn't know how to use irc.

Because how would we set up a tracker for it? And unless you zipped up the files together, it makes so sense to use bittorrent on a file so small for one chapter or story that would end up seeded by only one person anyway. We'll just end up with a bunch of dead torrents.

I did some digging around and I don't think I can host a forum like this. There is a clause in the hosting company's TOS about copyright. Oh well it was a thought. >_>

Here's another way people could get their stories around. Use Limewire, it's a p2p thing, and we can all share anything we want, without spending any money.

I'm going to Wattpad, haven't seen any problems there and Titanrules is there and a couple others. I'm willing to email if anyone wants to receive them. Like I said in the mailing list thread, not the first time I've emailed chapters. A friend and I used to trade back and forth, a chapter here and a chapter there. I actually had an idea, but it was shot down by my husband. My brother-in-law makes websites, but he isn't taking any new people.

You Could Use Fanpop or Wattpad... I'm Not Sure If It's A Good Idea But It's Still One.

You know, it's not all that difficult to create torrents. Yes, it would be a bit illogical to have a new torrent for every chapter, but perhaps if we did just completed stories. Authors could use livejournal otherwise for posting individual chapters and getting feedback.
Just a random thought on my part

Authors could use livejournal otherwise for posting individual chapters and getting feedback. Just a random thought on my part I've actually thought of doing that, completing and then posting the whole thing. It makes less stress because you don't feel pressured to get a chapter out right then and there. The trouble is that when I start a story and get a few chapters into it, I want to get it out and get reviews for it. I want people to see what I'm doing, and the reviews help in getting the next chapter out.
