This whole issue is making me angry. Unless there has been a complaint from JK Rowling or her publishers themselves I see absolutely no reason why it should bother anyone else.
Quite frankly anyone reading these stories has most likely got their own bought and paid for copy of the books. Not to mention with the interruptions for our own words you don't get a clear version of the books anyway.

Whatever is decided, please let me know. I love these type of stories and would like to continue with them. I don't write fanfiction but I love to read it. Please add me to any mailing list or PM or anything. Thanks.

I am sure of that too... I have seen 7 stories posted on the RTB section of YFF and even 3 which i could find while i was simply browsing for other stories!!! Blackroses77 had a good idea about mailing the chapters you leave out to those who ask, you just have to put up an author's note so that they know to ask you! Or as Dimcairien say you could just leave out some extra information like the example which is also very good!!! Also adding your own text to the original text like Kuma's fics and so many others just makes it that you are not writing the actual book right?

If people want to get really technical all fanfiction is going against the strict sense of copywrite laws since people are using characters and fictional places they didn't create! So I do not understand all the fuss about this particular genre.

It may follow guidelines, but leaving out paragraphs does ruin the story imo. I may not read every single word of the original text, but I do occasionally, just in case I forgot about something in the original books.

You could leave out the alternate points of view. Like the opening chapters in many of the books like The Riddle House and The Other Minister.

But What If We Only Leave Out The Descriptive Paragraphs or As I Read Before Why Not Just Skip A Chapter & Email It To The Readers Who Ask.

You could always go onto Quotev.com to update the stories. On quotev there a few 'reading with' stories and they've been there for years. I don't think you have to worry about them being deleted there.

There are plenty of paragraphs that are nothing but descriptions of the hogwarts grounds. You just have to read carefully to make sure it's not important but even cutting a few paragraphs every chapter would keep you safe.
Also if you bury it in your own words it would help, try not to start every chapter directly from the books. Put in the odd chapter that has no text from the books. It will help make it look like you have just used snippets rather than full text.
You can even separate the chapters in the books into two or more chapters in your story. I know people have had to do that for word count, but if you did that deliberately it would also keep it from looking like too much has been copied.
Finally don't forget to give them ambiguous titles and summaries. It may help keep them safer.

Seriously? Why don't people take the time to at least skim through the topic? The plan is simple: ShotgunWilly will delete all story boards within the community by this evening. The rest (the General boards, and the Review and Discussin boards) will stay. Then, each author will have to decide for themselves how they want to go forward. Now, the easiest thing to do is: - Don't panic!
- Keep an eye on the Review boards of those authors you are following, chances are they will post there once they have decided on how to continue.
- PM the authors directly, if you have a question.
I'm simply going to wait a few days for now. Since I haven't decided yet on how I am going to continue (although yourfanfiction.com looks good right now), and my next chapter isn't finished yet anyway, this seems like a good plan. Let's see what everything looks like in a day or two (namely, when ProBoards deadline has past). Thank you, Ithariel. I'm getting tired of having to repeat myself... I disclaim all responsibility if I "forget" to not delete the reviews of the next person to ask me if (s)he can keep his reviews.

surely we can just create a new thread saying *Posted a new chapter* and show where? saves messing on with a load of emails etc..

Hi everyone
Since I have not trawled through all nine pages, forgive me if I'm asking a repeated question.
I was under the impression that websites like AO3 allowed 'reading xyz book fics'. Is it not possible for people to move there and begin posting there? I could, of course be wrong, in which case please do let me know.

neymat96 I don't THINK AO3 allows RtB fics, but again yourfanfiction does. They don't allow ALL the book text though, which puts some people off. Your best bet would be to decide which stories you want to follow and send a PM to those authors asking if/where they're continuing.

Hey, just checking in from vacation. Sorry I haven't been around much but ShotgunWilly has been doing a great job picking up my slack. But yeah, the General will stay and everything else will go. Sorry about all this guys, but I'd personally this happen now rather than a year or so down the road.
Personally, I'll be continuing my story on a mailing list but you'll have to join my Facebook group first which can be found on my Fanfiction.net profile.
I'll also be editing my thread title to make it less histrionic since the entire forum won't be shut down.

Not only that, but AO3 has a long list of waiting for new members. I had registered and was told that since it is in waiting list, they will send me an e-mail, and that was one month back, but i have yet to receive it.
@point Given: I'd like to continue reading your fic. I have already given you a friend request on FB.

I'm starting the deletions from the bottom of the forum. If you name starts with a # or comes later in the alphabet, you're going first. The A names may be a while. :v I'm going to be leaving for a Doctor's appointment in a couple hours and I don't know when I'll be back so if there's a pause, that's why. I may try to find a temp to continue my work while I'm gone, though. EDIT: I'm making better time than I thought I would. It should be done within the hour

I keep getting people saying that they want to be on my mailing list but not telling me their email addresses :/ just ask them for it. Tell them if they want it, then give you an email addy. That is what I do. P.S. Charmed4lifekaren took all her stories down off FFnet because she got reported again and now this. I hope she finds another place.

Yea... Would people object if a few non-RtB stories got posted up here? I know that The Venquine wants to put one up. This site was never intended to compete with the Fanfiction archives such as FFN or AO3 or YFF, but if people are dead-set on posting them here, I suppose we could do it.
