This is where the battle in the Dementor Arc shall take place. It is also here that the Dementors will meet their untimely end. Once the battle here is finished, this topic will be locked.
I ask that nobody post here until the battle starts, unless you have a Dementor character. ----
EDIT: I changed the title of this thread because it sounded kind of wonky before.
EDIT 2: G. Novella here. This is a list of who's battling who, just so we don't get confused.
Marigold vs Rhiannon and Harrigan
Octavius vs Kampfa
Veronica vs Agora
Alice vs Keane
Maxwell vs Lucinda
Cassalina vs Acrix
Henry vs Acid
Eleazar Vs Kohl
Modor vs Rhea
Odin Vs Noxra
Jei and Kei vs Jamie

Arcix glided across the frozen tundra, with his mate Noxra in tow. Neither of them were pleased.
"Our kin grow weary, Noxra." he said, glowering at the shimmering white in the sky - a Patronus barrier that kept them caged in this Hades-forsaken place. "I worry for them."
"Me too, Arcix." Noxra replied tiredly. "They cannot continue like this. None of us can."

Modor stumbled around. How long had it been since he'd eaten? Food. That's what he wanted. A pure, soul. Innocence. It was what tasted best. His mate, long ago, had loved the filthiest souls. He missed her, but not as much as he missed food. Hunger. Food. He was starved.

Lucinda arrived at the South Pole, and at once, was assaulted with constant, unending white. It shook her to the core. Ugly, ugly white, the same color her feathers had once been...
Lucinda shook her head to rid herself of those thoughts, and sought out the nearest creature - a black cloaked wraith. Was this a dementor?

For the first time in a long time, Modor could feel something warm, something living nearby. He turned, his senses searching for this strange warmth. It wasn't food, but he could drain the creature of it's warmth. It would be an appetizer. It was such a tease, not even letting him starve to death, but he had to have it.
"Food?" he groaned out miserably, approaching the warmth.

At once, Lucinda wasn't sure how to feel. The creature before her was pitiful and sad. But the way he regarded her - food? No, she wasn't food! As much as she hated the idea, she offered him a small amount of her warmth, hoping that would be enough for now.
"I am not food, sir. My name is Lucinda, and I'm here to warn you that wizards are going to attack your lands within a few days time."

"Wizards! Souls coming here?" asked Modor, excitement flooding him as he let the warmth bask over him. Greedy, he tried probing the warmth's mind for memories, dark memories, to drain out her warmth. It had been too long. His own natural blindness didn't let him see she was a phoenix.

Lucinda let out a startled cry, as the dementor threatened to draw out her warmth. She instinctively backed off, feeling herself dread this place more and more. It was savage, unfriendly, and already, she was starting to see snippets of memories she didn't want to think about. "Yes, they're coming. And they're going to kill all of you, if you're not careful. My allies and I want to assist you. May we access your lands, without being eaten alive?"

Modor considered it. The flame creature had so much warmth, he'd never die if he could take it, but the souls... He was so hungry.
"Acrix and Noxra decide," said Modor, "Want food, will we get food too?"

"The humans can be your food." Lucinda said in a hard voice that almost wasn't her own. Even now, she didn't like the idea of killing them. But, this was war, after all. The dementors had the right to kill anyone that threatened them.
Lucinda considered her options. How could she possibly find Acrix and Noxra, when she had no idea what they looked like? She could just go around asking, but if the other dementors were this desperate for their "food", one of them might end up stealing her flame while feeding on her. She could use her song, but what if that attracted unwanted extra attention, or all of them ganged up on her? Trilling a sigh, she asked, "Would you take me to them, and keep your comrades from eating me? I'll give you a portion of my warmth in exchange."

"I bring to you, for warmth," said Modor, a thrill going through him at the thought of food.
Without a word, he turned and glided away gracefully, a new vigor in his steps. His thoughts were focused on the delicious human souls, arriving to be his. He'd find an innocent, pure soul filled with good. He'd sink his jaws onto the human, and suck her dry. These happy thoughts filled Modor as he searched out Acrix and Noxra.

Lucinda warily followed the dementor, feeling very much out of place. Occasionally, other dementors did try to lash out. But the one she followed kept their word, and eventually, they came to a pair of them, much larger than the others.
And, from what she could tell, twice as powerful.
"Mordor, what brings you here?" asked a cold, masculine voice. "And how did you find that source of warmth?"

Modor glared hatefully at Acrix. He was going to take his source of food, of warmth. Nevertheless, it was his duty as servant to offer warmth to Acrix, and the flame had asked to be delivered here.
"It's warmth, flame," said Modor, "Arrives bringing word we shall get food soon. Tell master, warm one."

"My name is Lucinda, and I've come all the way from Scotland to warn you. Humans are coming to kill you, and I - along with my allies, would like to assist you."
Arcix regarded the warmth's words, and fought back the powerful urge to drain it completely. The warmth, Lucinda, spoke of a threat that was both very real and troublesome. But, it also provided the source to a problem that had been on his mind for quite some time now. "Who are these allies you speak of? And why do you want to offer your 'assistance?'" he asked her thoughtfully. Beside him, Noxra readied an attack, just in case the answer wasn't satisfactory.
"I am a phoenix, and have bound myself to the service of all magical creatures." Lucinda spoke, her voice taking on a strange, honey-like quality. It was sweet and warm, and it soothed him. Noxra calmed herself. "You are all my kin, and I want to keep as many of you safe as possible. My allies have their own reasons - none of them against you. Humans have wronged us as well, and we seek revenge."
Arcix smiled, though she couldn't see it. Their grand chance was just before them! If he played his cards right, he and his kin would have a feast! "In that case, I accept. We would be honored to have your help, Lucinda. My name is Arcix, and this is my mate, Noxra."
"A pleasure, Lucinda." Noxra replied politely, bowing her head slightly.
---
"Likewise." Lucinda replied regally, though she truly didn't feel it was. She turned to face Mordor. "Warmth, as promised." She willed a portion of her warmth to go to him, and felt a slight shiver down her spine. She took a deep, deep breath and forced herself to calm down. They had a battle to win.
"May we have some as well?" Arcix asked, sounding more feeble than he had moments ago.
"Please?" Noxra added miserably.
Lucinda trilled tiredly. "I suppose, so long as you agree not to attack my allies when they come. And to keep the others from disturbing them."
"Done!" the two snapped at once, sounding a lot greedier than before.
She backed away from them, but offered the promised warmth. While not yet freezing, she would to have Rhea use a fire spell on her to be comfortable again. "There you go. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have business to take care of." And with that, she flashed away, glad for the moment to be returning to the forest.

Modor felt unhappy when the warmth creature was gone. Her flame had left him more energised than he previously thought possible. Now he was left in the presence of an energized Noxra and Acrix. Once upon a time, he had hoped Noxra would become his mate to replace the one he lost, but Acrix had claimed her first. In the recent years, he hadn't had time to hold the petty grudge. Food had been more important. Now, he could one up Acrix again.
"I brought us food," said Modor smugly, "Flame of warmth, have I not done well?"

"You've done nothing." Arcix ground out, feeling a sudden flash of anger. The phoenix's warmth had given him new life, which in term. While he did worry about his kin, that didn't mean he had to like them all. "The phoenix brought herself to this place."
"Now, dear, there's no need to be rude. Mordor could have just eaten her up, instead of bringing her to us. And now, we have plenty of living beings headed our way." Noxra said, a hint of gentleness in her tone. This did nothing to ease Arcix's temper. If anything, it made him even more angry. Why was she siding with that foolish little Mordor, instead of him?

Modor felt his smugness grow. Ha! Take that Acrix. Your own mate saw more usefulness in him than in you. His smugness practically radiated off him. Since he was here, he would test his bounds, and Acrix's temper, until something snapped. It had been too long since he had the energy to do so. If only his mate were here to see him.
"She even offered us the humans," said Modor, "I got her to agree to allow us the souls."

"Really?" Noxra asked, genuinely impressed. Arcix had been failing in his role as leader for a long time coming. He kept claiming that there was nothing they could do, that nobody could escape. Which was true. But Arcix had convinced them to follow the Ministry, which had backfired. Then, he convinced them to follow Voldemort, which had backfired even worse, following his downfall. And if that wasn't enough, they'd had no choice but to go back to the Ministry, in hopes of enjoying the prisoners in Azkaban again.
And that had gone over very well, hadn't it?

Arcix growled. Damn that Mordor! How dare he claim to be better? He looked over to Noxra, who seemed to be rather pleased with his compliment. She's mine, Mordor! Not yours!"I'm sorry you feel that way, Mordor." he said, biting back his urge to rage and scream. That would only make him look weak. "When I've only had the colony's best interest in mind. I didn't hear you complaining when we were with Voldemort, nor did I hear you offer any different ideas. If you've been so concerned, why is that the case?"

"Forgive me, Acrix," said Modor insincerely, "I was simply commenting on how it seems each idea we've gone through with has reduced us. I suppose I trusted your judgement too much. Which is why I made sure to make my own decision this time around. I'm sure all of us have had regrets, what say you Noxra? Have you regretted putting yourself with Acrix?"
If Dementors could, he would be smiling. Oh, how he loved to see Acrix squirm more.

Arcix growled. "What would you have done in my position, then? Kowtow to the Ministry, when there were better prospects? Or, when Voldemort died, have us go out on our own, and be hunted as vicious beasts? Knowing you, you would have taken all the females for yourself, and had the rest of us slaughtered!"

Modor's good mood evaporated. He carefully considered his answer. One false move, and he's lose the respect he was building. Perhaps it was time to play the pity card.
"I had no idea you felt that way," said Modor mournfully, "I didn't mean to offend you, though I am rather affronted by your thoughts. If it had been myself, Acrix, I would have chosen to leave after Voldemort, better than sit here and die out. Of course, I suppose you feel your decision best, you after all didn't lose your mate during our relocation. And it would have been far easier for you to find another, what being leader. My concerns are far more than just mating, Acrix. Then again, I suppose it's easy to have mating as a concern when you have a mate to care for. If you'll excuse me, I shall be on my way. I can tell when I'm not welcome, and after I brought you warmth."
He turned to go, feeling smug again. Now to see what happened next. Would his pity play strike the right spots?

Noxra glared at her mate, and turned to face Mordor. "I'll come with you." she said coolly. "I suppose someone should thank you for what you've done. Hades knows it's been a long time since anything has gone right for us."
"Noxra...wait!"
She ignored his pitiful voice. "Shall we go, Mordor? I'm in the mood to go somewhere different."

"Of course," said Modor, trying to keep his voice sounding pathetic rather than smug, "Shall I show you the caves? The patronus is weakest there, it won't drain us so quickly of our energy. And nobody knows them as well as I."

"Noxra, are you really going to trust him?" Arcix ground out.
"Far more than you, yes." Was her simple, frosty, response. "Of course, Mordor. I think that would be best." She found a distinct pleasure in listening to him sputter and seethe - she would see to it that Arcix would be exiled from the rest of them when this was done. Surely, once the others learned of Mordor's progress, they'd enforce it.

"Right then, let us go," said Modor, throwing a smug look to Acrix.
Once they were a good few lengths away, Modor turned to Noxra, they were nearing the caves after all. In the darkness of the caves, she lookee simply divine. Her cloak, regal and elegant, her blue-grey skeletal hands glistening. She was by far one of the loveliest females he had ever seen. Perhaps he would even see her face, her lovely face. It was customary that Dementors hid their faces from anyone but those they mated with. How wonderful it would be to know he had seen the face of Acrix's mate!
"I spend many days within the caves," he began, "I know caverns so dark and damp, it feels almost like Azkaban again, simply without the food. Perhaps in the future, we could trap humans down there, feed on their souls and their warmth. Make our own hell their hell. Shall I show them to you?"

A shiver of pleasure went down Noxra's spine. The very idea of filling these caves with humans, and watching them write and groan in agony...to feed upon them whenever she wanted. Oh how divine! "I would be honored, Mordor." she purred seductively. "I can't think of anything else I'd rather do."

"It amazes me still, your loyalty," he said as the slipped into the darkness of the caves, "Any other female would have left Acrix long ago. He's rather pathetic when you consider it. Why does someone so lovely as you wish to stay with him? You're far more suited to these caverns of mine, the darkness, despair."
He led her further in towards a dark, empty cavern. It was lower in the earth, and the Patronus barrier's effect seemed almost nothing. He had discovered these caverns when he tried to escape, and sought refuge here to stay sane. Now with the warmth in his body, he had never felt more alive.

"Custom, I suppose." Noxra said thoughtfully, as they went further in the dark, empty cavern. For the first time in ages, she didn't feel weighed down by the Patronus barrier. It was dark, beautiful, and it made Mordor appear more attractive than she could have thought possible. "There was a time when I found him charming and dear, back before he ruined us. Like you, I thought he had our best interests at heart."
