Wow, then I know what you do with your weekend! I'd start with the M-rated and the RtB stories, as they are the most threatened. The others can wait a bit longer, I guess.

Know the feeling ;D When I go over my bookmarked authors, I sometimes can't even find the story I bookmarked them for! Just too many to remember, and with all the stories who weren't updated forever ...

I know, i'm just focusing on certain categories that i like. I think i am dreading saving my Harry Potter ones though. I have about 1400 favourited stories.

Well, isn't AdultFanFiction.Net for M and MA rated fics anyway? Why are people posting MA fics on FFNet anyway? That's my question. It might sound a bit - dunno, out there - but I really do wonder.

True, i get that. Don't know why they don't do that either. But I am just saving all the stories, incase it gets any worse than it is at the moment.

Oh man, my initially barely 150 (by now it's less) seem rather poor in comparison. Though for a long time I didn't favourite, just bookmarked, because at first I didn't have an account, and only made one later on. The favourites were usually the ones I thought really great, not just everything I'd read - with some few exceptions, maybe. Already going over the bookmarks what needs to be saved - too many haven't been updated in ages, an I don't know if they ever will be.
Well, I'm using Flagfic, that's pretty fast, and the worst I did already when the RtB story purge began, so it's not too bad.
Good luck, and I hope you can save everything, just in case!

Probably because ff.net is more widely known, and is considered by many as the most popular fanfiction-based site on the Internet, and not just for HP stories.

I regularly check in on cwam's RtB community of ff.net, and see if the total number of stories in its archive have decreased. As of today, it's down to 945.

they also don't understand the difference between a plain HP fic and a crossover. they each have their own categories and the amount of times that i've read a fic that was a crossover and not fully HP is stupid.

It's true they've already deleted two of my stories "traumatizing Ron " and "all about us" I've reposted Traumatizing Ron at wattpad.com under the story name "The Cock-Blocker" I'm under the username BrokenQuill92

Why were they deleted, if you don't mind my asking? Or did they not give you a reason?

Dear Madam
Harry Potter adult fan fiction
We are a firm of solicitors (attorneys) in London. We have been consulted by our client, Christopher Little Literary Agency, on behalf of Ms. J K Rowling, and by our client Warner Bros, in connection with the Harry Potter adult fan fiction made available by you at URL . (see enclosed screenshot).
As you are aware, Ms. Rowling is the author of the Harry Potter books. Ms. Rowling therefore owns the copyright in the Harry Potter books. The sexually explicit content of the fan fiction available at .org, which is plainly based on characters and other elements of the fictional world created by Ms. Rowling in the Harry Potter books, is a matter of serious concern to our client. In addition, our client Warner Bros, which owns the film and merchandising rights to the children's series of Harry Potter books, is concerned to protect the integrity of its Harry Potter properties. For the avoidance of doubt, our clients make no complaint about innocent fan fiction written by genuine Harry Potter fans.
There is plainly a very real risk that impressionable children, who of course comprise the principal readership of the Harry Potter books, will be directed (e.g. by a search engine result) to your sexually explicit web site, which you will appreciate most right-minded people would consider wholly inappropriate for minors. Plainly the warnings to the effect that children under 18 should not access your website do not in fact prevent minors from doing so. Indeed, such warnings may well serve simply to entice teenagers to your site.
In the circumstances, our clients therefore request you to remove all such material and cease making it available on the internet or by any other means. Would you please let us have your continuation that you will do so by no later than 18:00 GMT on Friday, 20 January 2003.
Yours faithfully

If that is true then there would be more notification. And in truth do not see J.K. or WB really caring to this point, now if someone said they Owned the cannon characters then yeah I could see something similar.
But saying something like that to anyone is wrong, after all it is not illegal to write fanfiction which includes the Adult types, and there is other more child oriented series that have been made into Adult in the past and will in the future.
So I myself hope that, that email was incorrect, as that would open one massive can of worms... Sadly it is not just the HP stories not being effected on ff.net.

You'd think there would be some notification, yes, but on the other hand, FFN didn't do much in the way of warning in advance lately, either.
*IF* it were true, it would explain a bit, but why now, after the stuff existing for years? It seems a bit strange. And how did that person get the mail? Really don't know what to think myself, but I thought I'd copy it in here just in case, even if I don't know anything for sure.
Besides, that mail is quite old, who knows where it came from ... but if another one, newer, similar one is behind it - who knows?
Agree about it being wrong to act like this. But some people will still do it, sadly.

Didn't JKRowling say that she loved the fanfiction and that she gave us her full consent to write whatever we wanted?

Yes but she does not like some of the M rated fics for Harry Potter. Basically anything that depicts her characters having sex kind of ticks her off. It doesn't mean that she would take a whole site down though.

Didn't JKRowling say that she loved the fanfiction and that she gave us her full consent to write whatever we wanted? I think the letter is real but i remember reading almost exactly the same letter that was sent to a Harry Potter fanfiction website nearly 10 years ago. I think it is the same letter.

Looks like the same to me. If someone is actually trying to scare people with that old letter, that's quite nasty. Now I wonder if someone has seen that and started the rumour, or what? I'm really beginning to wonder about the whole thing.

Now that I have slept on the matter, I highly doubt that this rumor proves to be true. The thought of FF.net deleing around 40% of their fics just sounds stupid of them.

It is actually very easy to save all our favourites and it only take a few minutes. Go to this website www.httrack.com/page/2/en/index.htmland download the file marked We recommand: Windows Vista/Seven 64-bit installer version WinHTTrack (also included: command line version) (assuming you have windows) Install it then select a project name and a link to what you want the programme to download. However for FFnet it is very important you use FFnet's mobile feature so instead of just downloading this page www.fanfiction.net/u/1827509/KariAnn1222which will not work. You need to download this page m.fanfiction.net/u/1827509/which for some reason will work. I type in that link into the programme and it will download all of the authors stories or all of their favourites if you wish. Now if you have 3000 stories on your favourites list downloading will probably take at least 30 minutes but it should work. I hope that helps.

Does this program also work for my favorite author page? I have around 390 favorite authors and I really don't want to browse through every single one of them to copy the M-rated fics, you know?
