I have been reading this thread and what came to my mind is that authors should always, always back their stories up! Not doing so and whining about it later is just stupid. I don't write Harry Potter fiction, but I do write some other fics and I have those fics saved to 1-2 places on my ccomputer plus what I have posted online.
ff.net is being ridicilous and that we can all agree on.

I agree with the backing up of stories. I have mine on the PC and 2 memory stocks.

I have my stories backed up on my computer and google docs. I should probably get the, onto my flash drive as well.

It's kinda sad we had to learn our lesson the hard way for the most part. I do feel bad for the people who lost their stories.

True. It's alright for my Arianna account because I only did that for madness. The original was better. The Phoenix account is backed up in places.

I'm actually glad that I've saved the stories to my computer and flash stick, as well as couple of other sites regarding the stories I've got.
At least with my RtB, I make it a T - mainly because of language, I might slip up somewhere with a swear word.
