I think that reaction was what set me on the idea of they just don't care as much as they should. Any caring parent, especially the parent of a muggleborn who is probably already nervous about sending their child away from their home at eleven to a place they can't even visit or contact them, would have taken their child out in an instant, especially if a troll managed to get in there. Add to the fact that Hermione was petrified in her second year, and she wasn't pulled out, or didn't even mention the idea of her parents pulling her out to Harry or Ron was really telling.

Just thinking - after Ron and Harry took the flying Ford Anglia to school, the parents were informed. So, wouldn't that mean that the Grangers were informed about stuff like the petrification by the school, too? So, wouldn't they know even if Hermione didn't tell them?

Probably, but if her parents didn't care, then she wouldn't be pulled out. I've always seen her as ignored by her family, for various reasons. I think the reason she really obliviated them was maybe they were beginning to care by that point, or maybe Hermione did it for her peace of mind, and they were never really in danger in the first place.

Yeah, sounds like they didn't care that much. Though I believe they would be in danger, no matter how much they cared. They were still Hermione's parents, she's a muggleborn and on the run with Harry - the Ministry would try to get at her by way of her parents if they stayed. Sending them away was ok. But obliviating them ... I don't really see the necessity, no. If they weren't safe in AUS, then it didn't matter if they remembered her or not.

The option of erasing their memories of her was probably a bonus if that is the case. While I doubt it was ever as bad as the Dursleys, I do think there had to have been bad blood. Maybe by cutting them out of her life, she found a sort of inner peace?

Maybe, but I can't seeing voldemort or any of the death eaters being thorough enough to know where she lived. As it was pointed out in one fic I was reading, Harry and Ron don't even know where she lives. If her best friends don't know that, then how could her worst enemies?
The problem I mainly had with her parents were they were too willing to dump her on someone else, and then just leave. If you haven't read it, "A Place Called Home" by Vinkunwildflowerqueen. It shows a very different take on her parents than how most people portray them. It's H/Hr though. While I personally enjoy the pairing very much, most people seem to hate it.

The Ministry should have records, don't you think? Remember they were surprised that Arabella Figg wasn't registered. So, they should have the Muggleborns on record. And with the Ministry in their hands, they'd have ways to find her address easily.
Might give that one a try when I find time. Personally, I prefer H/Hr over H/G anyway, even though I am not sure it's the best pairing.

Well as long as it isn't Draco/Hermione, I'm fine with it... though even that pairing has promise if done right. Then again, you can say that for any pairing that could possibly work.

When I say would work, I mean in terms of age and sense, mostly. Like, you wouldn't pair Harry and Nagini up, would you? *gags* Or what about Sirius James and Buckbeak? o.O Or maybe even Lily Luna and Kingsley. *shivers*
