I'm sorry that the evil bullying trolls have attacked your fic, I'm sure I read yours and liked it (it gets difficult after a while to remember certain fics when you have read hundreds lol) it really annoys me how they think that they are some kind of God who gets to decide what fics are allowed and which ones aren't.
Also the troll that reviewed your fic also reviewed Charmed4lifekaren who writes Hermione's trip to the past series saying that her fic was going to be deleted. She has removed the fics now I think so that the trolls didn't do it.
Thank god I backed them all up

Tell me about it. I always get confused about what I've read before or a new chapter comes and I have to read back and recap She's a critics united member, I checked.

So I sent the person who reviewed me a message. I said that I'd received her review and moved the fic to another site, but I wasnt deleting it. (that's up to her, there's no way in hell I'm making life easy for her.) I also said that I didn't appreciate her rudeness and that I didn't appreciate being insulted.

So she messages me back again, saying that she believes anybody who feels like they have to insert another writers work into their own obviously lacks common sense. It doesn't matter that I've been published in a book before, obviously, because I "lack the common sense needed." oh, and she also said that we're all going to get sued for posting our stories here.

That's great - for both you and them. When I like a fic, I am always sad when it's abandoned, or recently, deleted and I have no idea if and where the author is continuing. Searching all over the place for the stories is tiring and takes up more time than I have, so I always appreciate it when I know where to look for it now.
Besides, 100 reviews for 5 chapters is respectable and shows that people like it, IMO. You can be proud of that.

Hopefully nothing happens to your fic and it's still there. Nothing has happened to my stories either, nor have I gotten a review from CU. I am still updating on ff.net and posting here. I'm doing this partly to prove that I'm not scared of the threats.
One thing that really bothers me though with all this stuff from CU are the claims that we're plagiarizing. The dictionary definition of plagerism is: "an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author."
None of us are taking the credit for writing HP and we always have a disclaimer stating that the work belongs to JK. Plagiarism is taking someone else's works and stating that it's their own. It's a pretty big difference.

Well, it might not fit the textbook definition of plagiarism but it is true that we are making a copyright protected text available online for free, when the author (JKR) has not done so herself. Making a copyrighted product available for free, when its actual creator is selling it, is product piracy.
Because technically, someone who wants to read the HP books, but doesn't want to pay for them, could read one of our fics and just read the original HP parts.
It's like cutting a prominent movie (like Avengers e.g.) into it's component scenes and interpersing it with videos of our pets. Someone who download that video would still get a complete copy of Avengers. And that is piracy, and thereby illegal. *shrugs*

Maybe someone should tell that cow that, if she has a problem with all that, she should go and sue FFN in the first place How dare they publish fanfiction, after all? It's using other people's stuff as much as any RtB story, just a bit less literal. From the "review" I get the distinct impression that person doesn't even know that by her own definition, all fanfiction would be illegal, not just the RtB fics. Or she happens to suffer from selective perception and sees only stories as illegal she doesn't like. Oh, and Dimcairien, that person insists that adding a disclaimer wouldn't change the fact it is plagiarism. No, for such an august union, they don't have much knowledge or common sense *eg*

Are they deleting the fics because it is the whole book and could be considered a breach of copywrite or are they just being stupid?
personally i love this site, it is really nice to beable to read the books without having to buy them.

And that, Nathalie, is why these stories are a problem. Personally, I don't feel bad for it because I have the books myself and often in two languages already, so I have paid my part. But not everyone has them.
I just wonder why they don't go after the websites who offer the whole book without any additional fanfiction.

I own the books, but have lost my copy of book 1. I for one love reading the CR stories, especially if Umbitch gets hers. I told my friend about the purge and she did agree that fanfiction itself is illegal (although that dose not stop her with her transformers fics, after I told her she went to check her stories to make sure they were still there.)
I have never written a CR myself as I like reading them more (I write crossovers mostly with only one Harry Potter AU as a non-crossover), so when I noticed the best ones getting deleted I was upset. I noticed they even deleted the ones that are NOT word for word from the books, like if they changed the story to have more abuse from the Dursleys. The author of my favorites said she will not be posting the story on another site and that is sad as she was already at book 4.

Could that be Shopaholic1369? For that was one of these I loved most Yes, I liked it a lot. I saw she tried to repost and it was reported deleted again. If these people try to get MY stories deleted... It's not like I ever stick to canon so it's never word for word on anything. I mostly do Anime anyway. There is one Zim story, but that is a crossover and is discontinued anyway. Oh well I have most of my stories backed up since I put them on my USB stick when I write them.

Well it really is a big problem that they delete the fics after they have tolerated it for so long. Although I agree of course that the reading the books fics are a copyright infringement but then fanfiction.net should have nipped the upcoming kind of stories back when they appeared at first. That way nobody would have put so much effort in it and we wouldn't have gotten so attached.
I mean they could have made an automated search in the fics for a certain paragraph of the books and then it wouldn't have been published on the site.
Kind of like a plagiarism search via google only just for the fics on their site.

Exactly, Werewulfking. That's what annoys me so much - why turn a blind eye for 10 years and then that? If what certain people say is true they have been forbidden for all that time and no one ever bothered. I mean, it's not just one story or two, but thousands, I can't believe that the FFN staff never noticed. And the same goes for the M stories, I guess. If they have a problem with something and put it into the rules, then they should enforce it from day one, not a decade later. It's not fair to the authors and their readers.

They should also tell people what's going on, and take the opinions of everyone into consideration, which they clearly won't. When I first heard about the purge of RtBs, I sent an email to the mods at FFnet, warning them that they were going to lose a lot of their fans, and the response gave me the impression that they didn't care about the feelings of the people who write, read and review RtBs at all.
