"So where do we go to sleep now?" asked Kohl, wanting to get away from that topic.

Lucinda nodded. "Good idea." She looked to Fawkes. "Are you ready to leave? It's going to be a long day."

Kei threw her head to the side in exasperation, "While you two were getting into trouble, I managed to find us a nice place to stay until this whole thing is over. Follow me then." With that, the mother turned around and began to trot off toward a nice ice cave she'd found in her search for Jei and Kohl. Jei followed slowly behind.

Kohl moved slowly behind Jei, and then moved to whisper softly to him, "Sorry for getting you into trouble. After you saved me and everything." She truly meant that. It wasn't fair to Jei that he had to get in trouble for saving her.

Jei shrugged, "You needn't saving if I hadn't led you to the trouble. Besides, I'm so used to her scolding it's routine." He twitched his ears in amusement, before the war had begun he had led Xie into quite a bit of trouble. All of which had Kei fuming in the end in exasperation.

Kohl was relieved that he wasn't upset with her over that. She would have nuzzled Jei, but felt awkward doing so after everything. Instead she just twitched her ears happily.
"Routine, huh?" she snorted, "So if I'm to be your friend, is this part of my routine?"

Jei tilted his head in thought before he replied. "Yeah, probably. Don't worry though, we won't mess with spiders any more. No promises on anything else though." He twitched his ear in amusement as he considered all the things they could do. He'd always wondered how long he could stalk a centaur before being caught...

"Sounds fun," said Kohl with amusement, "But you get to explain to your mother when we get caught, I'm just going to bob my head along." She grinned at having a friend who'd keep her entertained, back with Argon, fun was almost out-lawed!

"Explain?" Jei looked at her, astonished, "No, all we have to do is stare at the ground and say 'sorry', 'i understand' and 'yes mum' while she rants about how irresponsible we are. Very rarely do I actually need to explain myself."

"Ah, right," Kohl said with a smirking tone as she glanced over to Kei who was leading them to a cave now, "Perish the thought of actually explaining. How silly of me. I guess I have a lot to learn, oh wise one."

"You do." Jei nodded gravely, "But do not fear! It won't take long to learn." Just as he said that, Kei reached the cave and entered it.
---
Kei had listened to the two foals conversation, amused. She knew that Jei and Kohl would get in trouble no matter what she said, do she refrained from scolding them now. However, she did note that her punishments weren't quite adequate and may need to be escalated...
"Enough chit-chat!" She said as they entered the cave, "I'm tired and expect you two to quiet down as well."

"Yes ma'am," said Kohl meekly, moving to sleep by the side of the cave. She gave Jei a quick nuzzle goodnight, and then settled herself on the ground. The cold air hardly hit her in here, and she looked over to Jei with a playful twitch in her ears. Maybe tomorrow would be more fun. Anything could be more fun than spiders.

Kei lay down quickly and fell asleep, but Jei took a bit longer. He lay down not far from Kohl and placed his head down on the one foreleg that was stretched out in front of him, eying the filly for a moment before twitching his own ear once again as a sort of goodnight as he closed his eyes.

Fawkes looked at Lucinda and nodded his head, once again stretching out his wings before rising up a few feet. "Ready as I'll ever be."

And so, they flew out of the cave. When they were high in the air, Lucinda decided to let Fawkes in on what she intended to do. She explained that Rhea was attacked out of nowhere, and how she saved her. She didn't mention the vow, though, because he'd probably start hinting that Rhea was her master again. "So, I'm going to offer the dementors a bit of warmth each day, a bribe of sorts to keep away from us. I'm visiting Arcix first, to strike a deal with him."

Fawkes twinkle (Damn that twinkling eye!) disappeared as Lucinda mentioned the dementor attacking Rhea. He already disliked the creatures, a sentiment gained from his old Master's opinion of the monsters, and he didn't like the idea of what he was quickly beginning to consider a friend being attacking by them. Lucinda's idea seemed alright, though Fawkes didn't like the idea if giving the Dementor's much of anything. Mostly, he was concerned that Lucinda was going to tire out with all she was doing.
"That would work, but don't tire yourself Lucinda. You know what happens when you try to do to much... I think I'll offer a bit of my own warmth, lighten the load between the two of us. As long as those dementors stay away- don't like them much myself, and if they attacked anyone again..." He trailed off, contemplating how much fun he'd have eliminating the attackers. After all, he was not bound by a vow to protect them and could do as he pleased.

Lucinda didn't want him to help. There was no need for him to deal with them, too! But, the mention of her last over-exertion struck home. "I'm sorry Fawkes. I didn't realize I was getting into that mindset again." And indeed, she hadn't. All she had been thinking about was the white and the cold and the snow, and pitying the creatures at the same time. "If you want to help, that would be great. Maybe together we can keep them in line."

"Nothing to worry about Lucinda, that mindset is the best when in every day life. You just have to keep yourself in check in war." Fawkes assured as they flew. "In a line they shall stay!" He trilled confidently, "The question is what kind of line," he gave Lucinda a questioning look, "Wavy? Curly? Blue? Yellow? Or perhaps one of those odd mobius strip type of lines." To illustrate, the bird flew in a circle, doing a half turn like a mobius strip.

Lucinda trilled a long, loud laugh, the brightest one she had done yet, as she pictured it. Her laugh echoed through the empty white. "While I think it would be interesting to see them in a mobius strip, I think straight would have to do." she playfully nudged him with her wing.

The twinkle (Damn that twinkling eye!) resurfaced as he eyed Lucinda in amusement. He did a phoenix pout by hanging his head like a five year old human. "Fine, I guess a straight line will have to do....Party pooper." Then he cocked his head in curiosity, "That is such an odd term. I wonder how it came about...? You know what, I'd rather not know."

Lucinda gave him a disgusted look. "Fawkes! Don't give me that image!" She did the phoenix equivalent of sticking her tongue out at him. "Well, we're almost here."

"Apologies Ma'am." He dipped his head once again, but in a show of gentlemen apologies. As they neared their destination, he looked up and nodded. "Alright then, let us warm the hearts of the cold ones... Shall we?"

Lucinda chuckled at Fawkes' antics. He was just so...silly at times. "Yes, let's."
As they reached Arcix, she could already tell that this wasn't going well. He seemed overly irate about something, if one could judge by the awful chill that he pulsated. "Ah, Lucinda. What brings you here, and who is your friend?"
At once, Lucinda felt the anger from before kick in. This was the one who had dared to harm Rhea! He should be burnt to a crisp, not sitting on his makeshift throne! She pushed back this line of thought, though. It wouldn't do her any good. "Hello, Arcix. This is Fawkes, and he is a phoenix like myself." she stated frigidly. "We're here to strike a deal with you. In exchange for keeping you and yours from mine, we're willing to offer all of you some of our warmth. Is that acceptable?"

Fawkes didn't speak- Lucinda seemed to be doing a grand job at orchestrating this. Instead, he stayed next to his friend, eying the Dementor as he tried to calculate it's response. Arcix definitely seemed to be in a foul mood, Fawkes had no wish to upset him further and end up ruining this whole operation. When Lucinda introduced him, he dipped his head placidly in greeting.

"Very well." Arcix agreed. "I shall keep mine away from yours."
Pleased, yet a little wary, she offered Arcix a small amount of warmth as payment. "There you are." Lucinda looked to Fawkes. "Shall we be off? There are seventeen others to find, if my calculations are correct."

"Thank you for your cooperation," Fawkes said pleasantly to the Dementor, though one could tell by the lack of twinkle (Damn that twinkling eye!) That he was all but pleased. At least Arcix was agreeable though...
"Where off to next then?" He asked Lucinda, not sure how they were to locate all the dementors.

"Well, we're going to have to make a trip all the way around the east side." Lucinda explained, as they readied to take off. "They like to scatter, and some of them are in very poor health." she said this last part with a bit of sadness, having remembered how miserable some of them looked.
Just as they were about to take off, however, a deep chill flooded through her, making it impossible to move.

Fawkes didn't share Lucinda's sadness in the Dementor's poor health. Sure, he'd never extinguish the species himself, or even harm them without provocation, but he wasn't about to mourn them. He prepared to join her as she readied to fly, when he... couldn't.
Suddenly, he was in a different place. His thoughts weren't his, and he was trapped in a different place, time... and body? There was a man that seemed familiar- Lucinda's old master! It didn't take long before Fawkes realized he was in a memory, and as the old man grabbed him (Or, more accurately, Lucinda), Fawkes tried to escape the memory. But he was trapped. He could feel he was somewhere else, as he tried desperately to pull his mind away from Lucinda's nightmares, he could feel his real body struggling to escape the invisible bonds. But his mind was stuck, in a haze of white, cold snow.

At once, Lucinda was assaulted by a vision of Hogwarts, ruined. Part of the castle had collapsed, and inside it, were the dead bodies of many. People cried and held each other, and Lucinda felt a deep sorrow that wasn't her's. I've failed them was Fawkes' voice in her mind. Albus...I'm so sorry. At once, Lucinda realized that this must be Fawkes' worst memory, not her own.
She flew around the school, (more specifically, Fawkes did), shedding tears that were far from healing. She couldn't escape the feelings of failure and loss...of disappointing someone important. And then at last, she spotted the grave of whom Fawkes' thoughts named Dumbledore. Letting out a pitiful, mourning trill, Lucinda, (Fawkes), flew into the night.
When the memory ended, Lucinda was suddenly brought back to their current situation. Seeing Fawkes's struggles, it was painfully obvious what had happened. But why? Angry at her friend's suffering - and the possible ramifications of this - Lucinda sang of fire and contempt and hatred, striking Arcix with her most powerful attack song. She watched coldly as huge gashes ripped into him, spilling black blood onto the white snow. Arcix screamed in pain and broke the connection. Shivering and cold - though she assumed Fawkes was worse off - Lucinda offered Fawkes a bit of warmth and called out to him.
"Fawkes, it's alright. Fawkes, can you hear me?"

Fawkes finally ripped away from the memory as it ended, as Lucinda finally got away from that bastard. He opened his eyes and looked up at Lucinda. His narrowed as he suddenly realized what had just happened. Jumping up, the phoenix glared at the bleeding Dementor and spat in an angry tone that was unlike him, "You disgust me. We offer your warmth and your greed leads you to attack us and try to steal more?" Fawkes was very unhappy, he had just learned what exactly had happened to Lucinda, and he didn't like it. That, mixed with Arcix's greed, and the obviousness that Lucinda had relieved his own worst memory, made him not so pleasant or calm as he usually was.
