It is ironic. Funny what people will do for power.

All this hate for Peter makes me wonder what people's thought processes were the 1st time they read POA? What did people think of Peter before the Shrieking Shack? What did everyone think of the twist? Can anyone remember that far back? I can't

I just remember feeling sorry for poor little Peter. *gags*

I actually thought Peter was a hero and Sirius was a betrayer. I didn't see it coming that it was the other way around. What really got me was Scabbers being Peter. That threw me for a loop. Then when I learned more about the Mauraders, I thought Peter was a true traitor.

Can't remember much of my feelings, was reading too fast and it was probably about an hour before I knew the truth. Not enough to really build up any sympathy for the rat and hate for poor Sirius. But the Scabbers twist was certainly unexpected.

JK Rowling is good with plot twists. Quirrell in book 1, The whole chamber thing in book 2, this in book 3, Moody was Crouch (how could Dumbledore be fooled for the entire year though?), Umbridge and the Dementors, Voldemort not having Sirius, The prophecy, the horcruxes, Snape is good, Harry must die.

I felt terrible for everyone and then when Scabbers became Peter, and Ron said, "I let you sleep in my bed" I ended up horrified and wanting to shower really badly as though Scabbers had been in my bed. Ugh.

Her problem is that she is twisting the plot so much that she leaves holes everywhere!

The Scabbers twist feels kind of...wrong to me. He spent years in Ron's bed, and in both Ron and Percy's rooms... I know nothing happened, but it could have...

There's a scene most definitely missing from the books - how and when did Molly find out about this? I'd have loved to see her reaction to find out that she had a murderer in the house for 12 years! Or that Dumbledore allowed an innocent to be imprisoned for it without questioning and trial. Not the way a light hero is supposed to act.

*Still in fangasm from another thread, only to read the last part, and snap out*
Oh dear lord. I never considered that possibility. I'm actually shuddering while typing.

I remember that I didn't thought anything strange about the whole Scabbers / Crookshanks situation. I thought the rat was simply getting old and the cat would eat it, and that it would be simply a way to further develop the relationship between Hermione and Ron... But I didn't read anything else into it.
This reminds me: I always go like "what?" whenever I read a RtB fic where the readers immeadiately figure out that something is wrong with Scabbers just because the cat always goes after him. There is nothing strange about that at all!
And I felt kind of sorry for Peter (although I thought that he had it coming, going after a dangerous murder and cornering him in the middle of a street... seriously, how stupid can you get).

It was a wonderful few moments of bliss.
I am so glad right now that Pettigrew was never into Lolita-esque themes, and am I the only one who wants to read a fic where what if Pettigrew was into little boys? I think it would be a pretty well-done fic if written right.

*snicker* It actually took me two readings of the last part to realise that you were talking about what you believed to be true before the showdown in the Shrieking Shack.

I was actually thinking about Peter's character the other day, did he ever feel any remorse for what he did? I really got creeped out for Ron, I mean he slept in his bed....Firstly, YUCK, and secondly, I wouldn't be surprised if Ron wasn't permanently scarred mentally after he found out about Peter.

I think he must have, but only when Sirius caught up to him, or maybe when he first met harry on the train with Ron.
And why does no one establish this scarring in an RTB or redo fic? Some do, But most just go, eh, he got over it. You don't get over that.

I know I wouldn't get over that! If I was Ron I would feel completely violated! Ugh, It's just so creepy.

Ron and Percy both would be traumatized, I think, because I doubt Peter started sleeping in the beds with Ron. I'm sure he was used to it.
I always wonder why Harry's not disturbed over it as well since I remember that when Harry was going to bed, he had to move Scabbers/Peter off of his bed to Ron's. I mean, what the hell was Peter doing cuddling Harry's pillow and sheets?
The ideas from that just disturb me.

*makes face* So. Disturbing.
I would love for a RtB fic to address both of the boys (or all three, if they decide to include Percy) needing to overcome that. Because....no. Just no.

It's a scary thought, isn't it?
Which reminds me of another plothole. The twins had the map for years and Harry for months before Pettigrew was revealed. We know, however, that the map shows the real name of an animagus, too. So, why did no one ever notice the extra name in the dormitories? Shouldn't they know each others classmates at least well enough to notice that there was an additional name no one knew? Or should the twins at least have known who Pettigrew was to begin with?
