I actually think that Lily used the incident where Snape calls her a mudblood as a way to make a clean break from him. Yes, I think "In the Past to Change the Future" is one of the fairest RtB stories. However, I do believe the author loves Regulus much much much more than anyone else so as to ignore the fact that Regulus Black lionized/worshiped the Dark Lord and becoming a Death Eater was entirely his own decision instead of the excuse that Sirius ran away from home.

Yeah, I'm not too sure what I feel for Lily, some fics make her perfect, others make her into Hermione, some bash her, etc. I guess I'm pretty neutral on her. I hope Pottermore gives her character some more substance or something to make me like her a bit more.

I personally feel that everyone in that time period screwed up to some extent, and that nobody is blameless. I chalk it up to a messed up society and the screwed up kids it produces.

I completely agree Pinky.
It's why I find it hard to read Marauder-era fics because either characters are made into heroes, or villains, and nothing in between. Since I'm writing a fic in that era, I find it so hard to avoid putting a character into a neat little box and sending them on their way when they never really are so easy to place.
I guess that's why I get irritated with Marauder worshippers or Snape worshippers. They're both wrong, you can't say it's just one. And while in one incident one might seem more wrong, like in Snape's memories, you have to remember that they're not completely wrong either. Does that make sense?

Why yes, it does. And I'm all for placing blame where blame is due!
I'm not fond of any character worshipers, personally. All the characters have faults, and it is important to point them out. I have trouble reading stories where any character, including Harry, is made out to be a saint. *gags* Stories where Harry is a purity sue really annoy the hell out of me, for instance. I like my characters flawed a little! It makes gives the story more depth, and the characters seem a bit more real.

When do you think Lily found out about Remus? Before 5th year? 5th year when they became Prefects? or later on? She's smart enough to figure it out just as early as the Marauders. She could have been told by Remus in 5th year so it would be easier to work together. Or maybe in 6th or 7th year she finds out when James has to skip Head Boy duties and she realizes how mature he has become.
I am not a Snape fan so I'm more likely to find his faults than with James, Remus, and Sirius. Unfortunately the majority of the stories I've read shine a better light on Snape than the Marauders. I don't mind bashing stories. Sometimes I want a story that bashes Dumbledore, Ron, Hermione, Snape, The Malfoys, Umbridge, Fudge, Percy and the Dursleys. Depends on my mood. The Super-Powered Harry doesn't bother me since sometimes I want Harry to smack everyone down

When I've read a long run of stories that don't deal with the plotholes and people's flaws, I tend to read a few of this type just to see everyone get their arses handed to them.
About the Marauders, it's sometimes hard for me to see them in a good way because Snape is my favourite character (at the moment), but I tend not to really take sides in arguments for and against Snape and the gang. I know Snape has huge character flaws but then some things about him that show a glimmer of goodess, and I can also see that all of the marauders have their good points and again some major flaws in their characteristics. I think everyone could have handled things better in their situation, from James, Snape and Sirius to Lily, Dumbledore and even McGonagall and Slughorn. Nobody seemed to do anything to sort it out and just allowed it to escalate. It's why I can read things in either direction (James/Sirius as the instigators or Snape as the problem). I just tend to read more about Snape because he's my favourite. I think if James had still been alive and an interactive character in the series I would probably would have loved him far more than I do, but I find it hard to feel much for characters who aren't heavily involved in a story.
