It is going to get to the point that FF.net is going to have shut down or become a Private site where you have to pay, more so if they want to get things a certain way.
Myself I hope someone either buys them out or buys the rights to use their coding and then opens their own site but adds more and stronger filters. Which as we all know would be fairly easy to do and would solve the issues.
Also I can understand not doing books word for word but Lyrics? There are a couple hundred thousand sites that are dedicated to just that, so what exactly is the issue in regards to a story? We are not making money off it in doing it.

Well.. There will always be people who find enjoyment into destroy things for the other. It has been like that for years, and will continue.

Some time ago I talked with a friend about the whole thing, and she said the whole thing is laughable because fanfiction in itself is illegal, as it is using copyrighted characters and plots. So, FFN itself would be illegal to begin with. From this angle, the whole purge does make even less sense. All they are doing is driving authors *and* readers off. But maybe that's what they want - drive everyone off who can think for themselves and only keep the good little idiots who do what they are told and only post what certain people want. Maybe that author should tell them that, if they have a problem with copyright, they should take down FFN altogether, then the problem is solved ...

It's beyond ridiculous. People need to grow up. The stories are doing no one any harm, in fact I wonder how many people have gone and downloaded a song because their curious about the songfic they've just read.
I can understand complaints from the AUTHOR or PUBLISHER of a book complaining about their work being used in fanfic (even though anyone reading them is probably only interested BECAUSE they've read their bought and paid for copy) as it can "cause a loss of earning". But these people have no reason or right to complain.
As for songfics, it's not like people are posting audio copies of their songs to illegally download all they're doing is putting up lyrics. Something hundreds of song lyrics site's do and no one complains about them.

There are some authors who don't want fanfiction written for their stories, and FFN respects that. And these authors should really be the only ones who have the right to decide what's allowed.
Seeing that I have all 7 HP books in English, the first four in German, as well as the Quidditch and Fantastic Beasts books, I don't feel I take away from the earing of JKR by having the books as file on the pc or reading these RtB stories, either. Actually, I believe many just watch the movies, then may end up reading fanfiction, find out the movies aren't exactly the books and get the books, too. The stories here keep the interests on the books themselves alive even after the series is finished, so what's the problem?
You are right about the songfics, IMO, though I don't know the legal situation there too well.
It's all just about power - the power to bully others, to destroy their work, to feel powerful because you can dictate what others are allowed to do. Bastards.

Well... I believe these people have no life, are boring as hell and have a wrong sense of justice, if they believe what they're doing. Most of the authors don't care that people write fanfictions... Some find it flattering, so whose work are these people doing for ? Their own enjoyment, I believe or... I don't know.
I agree with you Kitty. FF.net is hypocritical.

Many authors do feel that if people write fanfiction, then they're popular and it gives them an ego boost. I just don't know why others don't like it, or why the people who report certain stories do it. That's why I only sign in to ffnet to check my favourites list, or to review new chapters.

So true. If they had a real life, then they'd be too busy to harrass others. The worst is when FFN is allowing them free rein. For the ones behind the purge don't seem to belong to the staff in the first place - which is making it even more ridiculous.

At that rate, they are going to drive all good authors off. Maybe they are happy when they have the site reduced to a kindergarten with lots of kids who can't even spell, never mind write, but are too intimidated to put a toe out of line. It's really sad, but I've already started to disattach myself from FFN. That way I don't have to be so angry about all these idiots.

Perhaps the staff behind Fanfiction see it as... cleaning?

Knowing us it's the same person all the time, it's pretty easy to create a new email address and add random stories...

Perhaps the staff behind Fanfiction see it as... cleaning? Maybe. Only, they seem to target the good stories so much more than the bad ones. No one does anything about the stories that are so riddled with mistakes you can't read them. But the good ones are deleted. Great way to ensure the quality, no?

I almost don't care about it more... I get too tired to tirade about it now. We have this wonderful place to write and yeah... I like this side more than fanfiction.

And the best is, you can't only post stories, but talk to people, which is even more fun. So, yes, the purge on FFN did us some good, too. Let's just try to concentrate on that side, it's less frustrating than getting worked up about these idiots.

Nonsense, your English is fine, I've seen native speakers with much worse English.
In my case it was mostly that I wrote some long review, and then people not even the authors sent me a PM to tell me how they agree. In some cases it got into looong discussions - in one case, we are nearing the 300-PM-line, and in another in working together on a story.

Thanks Kitty. You don't know how much it pleases me, as it was a bit difficult to learn English.
Ahh.. I've had one of these, where I just sent many reviews about stories to one author... but then I hadn't the computer for couple of weeks, and lost the interest in that particularly fandom for awhile.. -.-

Thanks you guys You've just made my day. Natural speaker... Just wait until I tell it to my former teacher, she will be impressed, as I had private lessons in English from her in four years. It's thanks to her, that I can even manage this language.
