Was just reading the page about FFN at Wikipedia. They had a list of the numbers of fics in the most popular fandoms from May 28, 2012, so I went to compare the numbers to right now. Result:


Harry Potter
May 28 : 594,940 - June 3: 594,166 = 774 deleted

Twilight
May 28: 200,159 - 198,656 = 1503 deleted

Pretty extreme ...

If You check Flagfic.com, there is a discussion going on about the deletions. It appears to be a FFnet clean-up. possible rating related.

It is not just the 'reading' fics that are affected. it seems like ffn is deleting explicit fics etc.

I once had a fic deleted as well. It was named Bloody Hell! and was about Harry being turned into a girl and a slight crossover with Inuyasha. They said they deleted it because I used lyrics from Disney songs. True, I did use them, but I edited them so that they would fit with the story. Anyway, I'm reposted the story on Wattpad. Wattpad is a great site for fanfictions and has a great community. You should check it out if you want to read fanfictions but will be striking on the 8th. ^^

FanFiction.net has also garnered a reputation for allowing plagiarism as the staff offer no effort to prevent plagiarism of fanfiction, even when contacted by original authors, due to the lack of copyright associated with the fanfiction genre. This causes great frustration in victim members and there have been many cases in which Fanfiction.net members have plagiarized the content of fanfiction not found on the Fanfiction.net database which the Fanfiction.net staff have refused to address.

Just read that on the wikipedia page. Could that be fuelling fanfiction.net's new determination to get rid of CR fics?

Hmm maybe but then they should make an announcement about it and tell people what is and is not allowed any longer.

That is actually one the things that drives me batty with ff.net, they do not have a place for their staff to post updates or other such info to address these types and other types of issues. Not even in the forums there, and they only update the main page once in a blue moon.

Yes, and the updates they do post are things nobody really cares about.

Well the only one that was useful was the one about "bots" and their update to stop the automatic reporting by bots. That is about the only useful one iv seen...

And that one sounds pointless seeing as I'm sure Lord Kelvin's Red Button actually deletes, not reports, fics.

Which in my eyes should be illegal, as he basically destroys other people's property, and as it's not his site, as far as I understand, he has no right. I really wonder if FFN knows about it and is too lazy to do anything, or if they just hope he's doing their job for them.

It's not like he hides the fact he's doing it. He had a forum on the site about it.

I'll really never understand some people. I guess in the long run I'll follow only some few stories on FFN any more until they are finished and then give up on the site, it's just not worth the bother with the way the owners handle it. If they drive off all the good authors, and everything not suited for small children, then the site isn't interesting any more. If they want to destroy it, it's their own problem.

The same with me. I never really got into writing enough to post anything significant but I definitely won't be posting there now.

I will only go on when I get an alert for things I'm following. And to find any fresh CR fics that I can direct over here.

That, too. A friend and I were working on a 'Characters read the books' story as well, though we planned to post only when we are more or less finished. Now I can tell you exactly which site we won't post it on! We'll probably end up here.

Keep on helping the helpless. It still is odd. There are several communities concerning CR, and nothing happened on that front. only several fics were singled out.

Several C2s? I know for a fact that there are over 100 just for HP.
Significantly less for Twilight though. Only about 7 I think.

Btw has anybody let authors of Twilight CRs know about the purge?
