Don't know. I'm not a big fan of twilight in general, but they don't deserve to be purged. It is very likely that they know. most CR authors have CR as fav stories. and it came up alot in those stories.

YAY! Awesome! I'm always looking out for decently written new CR fics. We do our best, but that's why it will still take a while. It's supposed to be more than the 'minimum standard comment', after all. Keep on helping the helpless. It still is odd. There are several communities concerning CR, and nothing happened on that front. only several fics were singled out. I'm still wondering if they are targeting the more successful ones ... Though it's Sunday, so they might just take a break. But I don't get by which criteria they are deleting, either.

A friend of mine who's a Twilight fan said that this fandom is in uproar, too. And seeing that they have deleted about twice as much Twilight than HP stories on FFN alone, I am sure the same is going on there - from both sides of the mess. Plus, on a Twilight website they seem to delete all M content, too. You really have to wonder what brought this sudden actions on.

maybe there's a small law that's just been passed that isn't big enough to have made it onto the news but that the sites have been warned about.

Maybe, but why can't they tell the users why they are doing it in this case? That way they could put the blame elsewhere - should appeal to them, don't you think?

You would think so, which makes me believe my law suggestion is wrong and they aren't announcing it because they are trying to keep what they are doing low-key, which they're obviously failing, seeing the uproar they've caused.

I think it is a bit rash to give up on the site immediately. It does have quite a great variety of stories up there, and new ones being posted everyday. However, I do hope that some day, either a new site comes up to be better, or they improve.
As for deleting stories and jerks who do that, it makes me wonder just why they do. I came to the conclusion that either a) they want attention and so they go about pulling these stunts b) They aren't writers themself and have no idea how difficult it is to both come up with ideas and execute them, then have to place it in front of an audience and hope it does well, and this one fact I noticed since several of these members don't post, or c) They're bitter and suffer from the aptly coined small-man syndrome and thus take out their anger on rather well-written stories since they faced either rejection for their own writing, or in their personal lives. So to an extent, I feel bad for them for having to resort to this, but then, I don't. Because they are violating the rights of others.

this is my outlook on it.
To me, the staff of FFNET don't care at all. If they did then they wouldn't have someone else doing their dirty work for them and they would be the ones doing this "clean up". Not only that, but if they did care then they wouldn't have waited this long to do it, long enough for us to think that this was ok and start to like stories and authors as much as we do now. If they cared they would have nipped it in the bud really quickly.
I see site staff almost as parents. When you do something they sort of punish you. If you are doing something wrong THEY warn you about it and take, whatever you are doing that is against rules, away! Parents don't hand over their children to others to take care of. that is neglect. Parents lay down the rules constantly and make sure the children obey them. This don't only go for actual, human parents but people who own stuff; animals, sites, ect. Teachers do the same to some degree.
^that is how I see this situation.

You could be right there. They should know better than to think they can secretly delete thousands of stories and no one would notice. I think it is a bit rash to give up on the site immediately. It does have quite a great variety of stories up there, and new ones being posted everyday. However, I do hope that some day, either a new site comes up to be better, or they improve. It would be easier to agree with that if it were the first time that happens, but the last round of deleting stories only happened last summer/autumn. And I remember a case in 2004 where a story got kicked for the rating, because they couldn't just tell her to change it. With each new occasion I get more annoyed. Particularly as I know a small LotR archive where things get handled very different. As for the rest of your post, you are probably right about their motives, or at least most of them. Sadly, there will always be people like that out there who have to brighten their pathetic lives by destroying other peoples work. The worst is when they do it under cover of pretending to keep rules up.

It's even more annoying when they make an account to do it on that hasn't posted anything and they block pm's so they have no repercussions.
It's pure cowardice.

It is. And THAT are the users FFN should kick out, not the stories they are reporting. It's really sad how such people can destroy something so great.

Yeah, I think as soon as they see a profile that is constantly reporting and has no fics themselves they should ignore the reports or thoroughly check through them.

No it is not just the HP fandom being hit. I'm a fan of both of them. I do tend to lean more towards Twilight. The uproar is pretty bad. They want word to get out what is happening. But the pulling is happening, and they are leaving FFn, for other sites.

So, it looks like charmed4lifekaren's stories are about to be reported by the Fanfiction Renaissance group. It seems that these people are extremely overbearing when it comes to the TOS rules on ff.net. I decided to check-out their forum and was shocked by how uncaring the group seem to the responses most of the authors they have reported. I did see that a few of their responses seemed believable because of how childish some of the responses were. I know having your stories reported seems like a slap in the face, but these authors could have at least been civil and not degrade themselves by making threats and name calling. That kind of act just fuels the fires of their ego's and does not help your case in negotiating with hostile grammar-Nazis. I know that statement may seem extremely hypocritical, but when the moderator of the forum calls himself such in his profile it seems quite fitting you know? Anyway, here's the link to their forum if you wish to see them trashing people. forum.fanfiction.net/forum/Fanfiction_Renaissance/97194/

People are so full of hate and self-righteousness; it is a dangerous combination. I think we all learned in the last couple of weeks that not every is capable of maturity. It is a sad truth. “Don't hate. Hate is an emotion that takes too much energy to produce with no real purpose.” -- My-Rebel-Within. But Hate we do.

Yeah I checked it out too. If you're going to argue with them, don't mention my name please, like someone else did. I saw that one of the responses hinted at another author. Maybe that is the one your talking about? You won't have to worry about me saying anything to them. Even though I don't really agree with the FR forum and their self-imposed "cause", I won't pm them for something they will most likely trash.

Yeah, there are just cases where it's a waste of time to argue, they are way too self-righteous to accept any different opinion. Or even understand that some think differently. Not going to go there, myself, it would just make me angry.

Not going to go there, myself, it would just make me angry. To true. If I was a writer and they reported my works I would try to be the better person and make a convincing arguement that would most likely be for nothing. The members of the FR forum just seem to be a bunch of selfish jerks with a god complex you know?

I know it sounds like I'm running from trouble instead of facing it, but I took down my songfic that I had. It didn't really matter as no one reviewed, favorited, or put it on alert, though hundreds read it. I really liked it and still have it on my computer, maybe I'll find another place for it. I thought that, with everything that is happening, I would rather take it down myself than come on one day and find it taken down by someone else.

Well, hopfully my creativity will be able to find another home. My RtB(s) did, hopefull my others will too. I believe I might have a couple others that might be deleted, but I'm going to leave those up, I'm not too into those anymore. (not talking about my "A Different Shell Cottage" Fic, though I'm not too sure that won't be hit either.)
