Lucinda felt giddy and revitalized once more, as she absorbed the flame into herself. "So, what are you up to, Rhea?" she asked, looking at her with happy, bright eyes. Now that Fawkes had accepted her, she didn't feel as dirty or undeserving as she had before.

The werewolf raised an eyebrow at the difference in the bird, but she didn't question it. Instead, she just flopped the book down and shrugged, "Just re-reading some old books of mine. Conjured them from my room." Then she stretched her arms out in front of her and yawned, "I'm beginning to enjoy the few moments of quiet between the chaos."

Lucinda cracked her neck. "I couldn't agree more! Besides, we get into enough chaos as it is, don't we? It's best we don't push our luck." she hopped back on Rhea's lap, enjoying a bit of childish behavior for now. "You know, Fawkes went to look for penguins."

"Penguins?" Rhea repeated as she looked down at Lucinda, "Why am I not surprised? I hope that at least a few of the poor birds are still sane after speaking to Fawkes."

"Oh dear, I think Fawkes just felt a hit to his ego." she said, smirking with her eyes. "And he'll probably blame us for it, Rhea."

Rhea scoffed, "Nah, his ego's so big he won't feel a little ol' hit." She slapped her own hand lightly to emphasize.

Lucinda laughed. "Just don't tell him that, or he'll pout and give you those damn twinkling eyes!" She scoffed at the mental image that brought. But, at the same time, thinking about him reminded her of the memories they shared. Poor Fawkes, all alone. Carrying a burden that wasn't his to carry...

Rhea raised a finger to her lips, "Shh... It's a secret!" She said in a stage whisper. Then she glanced back toward where Lucinda had come and asked hesitantly, "If you don't mind mine asking... what happened when the Dementor got... Greedy." She didn't want to upset Lucinda, but she wanted to know what had happened

Lucinda looked up at the werewolf somberly, as she recalled Fawkes' sorrow and self-blame. She wouldn't share that with Rhea, but it felt alright to confide a little bit. "I saw Fawkes' worst memory, and he saw mine. I'm still not completely sure how it happened, but I think it's some kind of defense mechanism. I don't want to talk about what I saw - it isn't my place - but Fawkes has more burdens than I thought he would." Her heart went out to him, it really did. "And I wish I could relieve him of them."

"I understand," The werewolf answered, not pressuring for further information. Privately, she was glad that they hadn't had to relive their own worst memories... Rhea wished she had been able to escape her own memory, even if it meant living a different nightmare. But Rhea had no idea what Fawkes would have as a worst memory, could it be any worse then Lucinda's? Clearly it was fairly bad from what Lucinda said... And how did Fawkes deal with Lucinda's memory? She had to utilize her self-control to keep from asking the questions that she was sure the bird rather not be asked.
"Well... As long as your alright." She finally said, repeating her earlier sentiment for lack of better words.

"We got to know each other very well." Lucinda said, glad that Rhea seemed to understand. "He's a crazy bird, but underneath that, he's just as damaged as any of us are." She paused meaningfully. "You know, we phoenixes are taught nothing but the good points of being a familiar, and how important it is to be one. Given how close he was to his master, I can't begin to imagine how that would feel."

"And, if the stories are true, he's was very much like his master. To be with someone for so long, and to be so close... Well, I've never been that close to anyone before, So I can't imagine either." Rhea wasn't very friendly in school, though she'd had a few make-shift friends from Slytherin, as Slytheirn was notorious for being closed off from the other houses, but close together. Rhea's closest friends had been her Mum and her little brother, otherwise her possible friendships were quenched by her fear that they would shun her if they discovered she was a werewolf.
It was odd, This war had changed her so much in the past three weeks. Her boggart was proof of that- It wasn't just Jericho and Deirdre anymore, it was also Lucinda and Eolande. The new two closest people in her life.

"Well, who knows, maybe you'll have that someday." Lucinda said brightly. And for a brief moment, she could see herself as Rhea's familiar, helping and guiding her. It was the ideal future - grand, golden and promising. And Rhea was so kind, so good. Maybe Fawkes was right...
But no, Rothsford had been, too. And she had seen that same future, only for it to turn out exactly opposite. She couldn't risk it again.

Rhea smiled, "That'd be nice." The werewolf had a different sort of image, instead it was her with a mystery man, and little children. Eolande would be there, quiet but curious in the new children. She quickly dismissed the idea, she had sworn never to bear a child when she was 12- she wouldn't risk passing on her gene. Besides, what if the baby got hurt when she transformed with the baby inside? As far as she knew, no werewolf female had ever had a child that had been recorded. Maybe she could adopt... She sighed, it wouldn't be the same, but it would work just the same...
Looking down again at the phoenix, Rhea smiled and said, "Until then, I'm happy with how things are."

Lucinda beamed at her. "Me too." She did wonder what would happen once the war ended, though. Where would she go? What would her vow have her do next? She couldn't imagine leaving Rhea's side, but it would have to happen someday. "And besides, we'll always be friends, won't we?"

""Course." Rhea agreed, nodding her head. After a moment, she asked curiously, "Does your vow only apply to this war? Or will is keep hold even after this is all said and done?"

"It will probably affect me for the rest of my existence." Lucinda answered honestly. "I suppose I wasn't really thinking things through when I made it..." she added sheepishly. "Though I have had plenty of good things happen to me because of it."

"At least, after the war, there won't be nearly as many Magical Creatures in trouble." Tilting her head in thought, Rhea then asked curiously, "When you say existence... What's it like, to live close to forever? I'm only going to live for another hundred years, if I'm lucky, So I was just wondering..."

Lucinda felt sick at the thought of Rhea dying. "It's interesting, but not always the best. It becomes lonely when nobody else is around to share in your life." she said, thinking of sweet, sweet Eleanor. "While death itself is far from pleasant - or so I've heard - at least you will get to go to the afterlife. There, you will see those that you love once more." She hoped that didn't sound too heartless. But she couldn't stop herself from envying Rhea.
She had never been favored by her own parents, though that wasn't the typical phoenix way. Most of the time, they became solitary birds in the world, only serving a human or two before coming back to teach the newer generations. But after killing her old master, she had severed herself from that lifestyle. Being ignorant and self-absorbed had been the cause of her downfall.

Kohl nuzzled closer to the warmth. She'd been having a bad dream at first, about spider pincers all over her body, touching her, slicing at her, trying to rip out her innards! It was cold and dark, and she shifted uneasily, trying to escape. Then the dream had shifted, someone was there. The spiders backed away, and the someone was bigger, stronger, a hero. It was her mummy and daddy. They smiled down at her, and nudged her to the warmth. So she'd moved to the warmth with mummy and daddy, only to see Jei there! The two had begun racing, as the warm feeling kept them safe. Then she'd gotten tired, and she had flopped down by daddy, who was telling her stories of unicorns that could run on water! She snuggled closer to him, promising to run on water one day.
"Mm," she mumbed in her sleep, "Love you."

Rhea unconsciously began stroking a single feather of Lucinda's with her thumb as she considered those words. She didn't yet know of anyone who had died that she particularly missed, except her grandmother. Rhea wondered if Alexis would still hate her in the after life, or if they could return to the giggling little girls that had been best friends all those years, telling scary stories in the dark, having tea parties with stuffed animals and climbing on their Daddy that didn't think them better off dead. Maybe in death, such hatred of her being a Werewolf would disappear.
"Maybe me and Alexis can be friends again, in death..." She mused aloud, not realizing she had spoken aloud as she wondered about the possibilities.
---
Jeis own dreams were eery. There were no monsters, no darkness. Nothing visible to be terrified of. But Jei felt that creeping feeling of suffocation, of utter terror. All the unicorn was doing running through the Forbidden Forest. He kept looking behind, and seeing nothing. There were nothing but trees. Something was missing and he had to keep running, to escape the fear and pain.
Then, something happened. There wasn't nothing. Instead, there was a misty white figure. Familiar, but not place-able. It followed next to him, and had a very vague form, it was another unicorn, a bit smaller then himself. "Xie?" He whispered, but the form began to solidify.
"Kohl?" As the younger Unicorn took shape and ran beside him, he came to a halt. Then, he woke up. Jei blinked a few times as he took in the more real shape of Kohl that lay beside him. "Kohl?" He repeated in a confused tone.

Kohl heard someone calling out to her, but she was so comfortable with daddy. She didn't want to go just yet. The voice sounded familiar, like the warmth exuded from daddy. She wanted to go to it, but she wanted to be with daddy. She nuzzled closer to daddy, who was starting to fade away.
"Don't go yet," she mumbled, "Need you."

Jei blinked once again as Kohl nuzzled up to him. It was getting extremely awkward and a bit to close for comfort. The annoying the was that is was comfortable. But it was uncomfortably comfortable- if that made any sense. Still a bit confused, Jei pulled away a bit. He didn't want to wake Kohl, she seemed happy, but he'd like to pull his head together.

Kohl felt daddy move away, and it confused her. She started to feel a second light pouring in from somewhere. Unsure, she began shaking her head, and her eyes cracked open. She looked forward, trying to find her daddy. To her confusion, Jei was in front of her face. She stared at him, trying to figure out why she was so comfortable and why he was here and where daddy was. Then she felt her memory return, and realized she'd been dreaming. Still not fully awake, she put her head back on the ground.
"Morning Jei," she said sleepily, and then she felt more confused turning her head to Jei, "Wait, why are you here?"

As Jei took another step back, he tilted his head. "What do you mean? We're here because Mum had a vision that the Dementor's were being attacked..." He trailed off, and flicked his tail nervously. He knew that wasn't what Kohl meant, but he'd rather not talk about that.

"No, I know that," said Kohl impatiently, suddenly feeling oddly embarrassed, "But why are you beside me? I mean, were we asleep like this all night?" The idea was mortifying! She couldn't imagine sleeping with Jei like this all night! That was something you did with a daddy, or a mate, or a sibling, and Jei was neither!

Jei merely threw his head to to the side and pawed the ground, "Er...Uh... I dunno..." He looked back toward the entrance, hoping for something to distract them from this situation. "I'm hungry!" he said suddenly, "Do you want to go and eat?"

Kohl stared at Jei in bewilderment. He had dodged the question, and if she knew anything about avoding the truth, it was dodging questions. Highly embarrassed, she began twitching her tail nervously. "Let's eat!" she agreed, standing up and moving a few feet away from Jei.

Jei silently nodded and began leaving the cave. Kei was still asleep, and wouldn't mind if Jei and Kohl went out and got something to eat. Or, at least Jei hoped so (or he didn't care either way.) The unicorn made a bee line for the food pile and nosed around for something good.
---
Rhea went beet red when she realized she had spoken out loud. "Oh... it's just... My sister, we don't get along very well."
