OK, I just decided to make this thread and see if there were any other anime/manga fans here. I myself have been a longtime fan of anime ever since Toonami showed DBZ and Sailor Moon after school was out. In the last three years I have became a major buyer of anime series and manga volumes since the pricing of these are now more affordable. Hell, I would say other than books and games anime has taken a large chunk out of my wallet. My favorite types of anime/manga are usually towards the more dark, psychological stories out there. I am also a fan of some of the more plotless comedies when I need a good laugh. So, what are your favorite types of anime/manga?

Yo.
Though I got in via Vampire Hunter D. I'm usually a fan of Sci-Fi/Fantasy though. But I dabble in a wide array. Some of my favorites have been: Bitter Virgin, Angel Sanctuary, Fruits Basket, Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Alchemist, just to name a few.

I thought you'd never ask! XD I'm a huge otaku if I do say so myself. I've been watching anime since I was six so about 20 years now. And I've been reading manga since I was sixteen - ten years now. My first anime was Sailor Moon as well, but I've watched DBZ too - only they were dubbed in German since RTL2 was the only TV programme I knew of that showed anime in that time. Since then I've progressed to downloading and watching anime in Japanese with English subtitles (I'm not very impressed with English dubs) and I'm learning Japanese at the same time. Most of the time I even understand the dialogue without having to check the subtibles. I've also bought seven manga volumes so far - they're From Far Away, Lovely Complex, Ouran Hig School Host Club - all first volumes; Princess Ai I bought the entire series (3 volumes) and I have the volume 47 of Inuyasha in Spanish (me and my mum went to Spain on a trip and she bought it for me - I understand Spanish so it's no problem for me to read the manga). I actually don't have a preferred type of anime/manga since I can read and watch everything. But I do have to admit that I dislike Azumanga Daioh! and Lucky Star. Never understood the hype.

Yeah, I didn't watch VHD until I was around 10-11 but that was when I really got into the darker aspects of anime. My favorite series would probably look like this: Hellsing, Black Lagoon, D-Grey Man, Blame!, Claymore, Fairy Tail, Trinity Blood, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Tenchi Muyo, Ares, and Blood+. Yeesh, that is a ton of favs but to each their own.

Funny, I haven't really watched anime in years, and then just started rewatching Prince of Tennis the other day. I'm not really sure why, though, considering that I'm not enjoying it very much the second time around. Eyeshield 21 has a better rewatch factor.
My favorite anime of all time is called Konjiki no Gash Bell. You might know it as Zatch Bell, for those of you who have seen the dub.
I also really love One Piece, but I only really liked it until they got to the new world. After Thriller Bark ended, I feel like it lost something.

Same here. I never understood why there was such hype for those two series. To me they seemed like plotless school comedies that weren't all that funny. I guess we just didn't get the memo considering the two were so big around the globe.

I use to be a HUGE anime fan, but I haven't watched any new anime recently. One of my favorite animes is Fushigi Yuugi, I'll still pop it in at watch it from time to time. I still watch Miyazaki movies, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are probably my favorites.
I still read manga. Skip Beat, Ouran High School Host Club, and Ghost Hunt are mangas that I always look out for at my library to see if any new ones have been released. I LOVE Yuu Watase, I'll read anything she comes out with.

Oh, that reminds me. There were a bunch of manga in a local Goodwill, including some yaoi/shounen-ai. I hid them and now I'm not sure where!
I was trying to remember how I started watching anime and reading manga at all, considering that I remember pretty much hating anything that aired on TV in the 90's, and I finally tracked it down to Inuyasha when it aired on Adult Swim.

It is also a well done supernatural suspense series with neat effects.

I don't even remember all the anime I've watched but most of the our the pointless smaller series.
Naruto (Anime and Manga but have sort of stopped watching the anime. Stupid boat Arc was boring as Hell) Fullmetal Alchemist (First version and film) Death Note Fruits Basket Ouran High School Host Club Gakuen Heaven Gakuen Alice Junjou Romantica 1 & 2 Onegai Teacher Onegai Twins Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama Soul Eater (but only up to episode 7)
Tried watching Bleach at one point but couldn't get into it. Same with One Piece (that guys nose bugs me!).
There are so much more than this but I can't think of them right now.

UGH! How could I leave off Pokemon, Digimon and Yugioh? Avatar as well if that counts. I watched all the Digimon series up to Data Squad? I think that's what it was called. I tried to watch it but it was terrible. The two before it were terrible too.

I love anime; have a collection that started when I was 17 that now takes up 3/4 of a large bookcase! I first got into anime watching Sailor Moon and DBZ on Toonami as well!
My favorites are:
Kyo Kara Maoh Fruits Basket Dragonball/DBZ Sailor Moon (5th season: Stars is my favorite) The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (season 1 and the movie - season 2 was boring with too much of it being the endless 8) Digimon - seasons 1 and 2
Though in general, there aren't any anime series I've seen that I hate, and it's not so much the genre that matter as the specific characters and storyline. Ex) Don't like robotech; like the gundam(s) series that I've seen.
And if you are a fan a DBZ (or maybe if you're not), you should watch DBZ abridged if you haven't! It's a fan made "version" of DBZ; quite hilarious too. I believe it's on youtube on TeamFourStar's channel, and at teamfourstar.com

Oh yeah I forgot Digimon. I loved the fourth season even though everyone else hated it. I think it was the fact that the kids actually did something to help. But yeah, Data Squad I didn't even watch. I loved Avatar if it counts.

I only liked the first two series of Digimon. Especially the second one. Something about Ken really resonated with me.

And just remembered I watched Busou Renkin, too.

I don't watch Anime so much, though I enjoy it on occasion, but I do follow a few different manga series, namely Naruto, Bleach, and Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
I used to follow Fairy Tail, but I lost interest when they entered that tournament arc... been there, done that, and got the T-shirt a million different times.

I heard that there's going to be an American Live Action film of Death Note. Can anyone guess who's been rumored to be playing Light?
Hint: It'll be terrible.
